Fragrances -- the First Bar Worldwide for All the Senses

Fragrances, the new bar at The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin, is the first bar dedicated to the art of cocktails in combination with the world of perfume and aromas. Hand-picked fragrances of renowned brands by Giorgio Armani, L'Artisan Parfumeur and Annick Goutal, Yves Saint Laurent and Guerlain, in combination with high-quality spirits from the world-class portfolio of Diageo, are the inspiration for the unique drinks created by bar manager Arnd Heissen.

"At Fragrances, we want our guests not only to enjoy their drinks, but to experience them," as Arnd Heissen explains the new concept. "In the choice of their favourite cocktails, our guests depend entirely on their senses. An experiment, which demands courage and curiosity on the part of the guests, but which at the same time can be unbelievably inspiring", continues Arnd Heissen. The journey into the world of aromas begins at the entrance: 15 of the cocktails, their ingredients as well as the related spirits such as Ketel One Vodka, Tanqueray No TEN Gin or Zacapa Rum are arranged as small works of art and tempt guest to touch and smell them. In this way, guests can "sniff out" their favourite fragrance and the matching cocktail. Animated by the exclusive fragrances, memories of particularly pleasant experiences are awakened, which -- together with the matching drink -- form a small but brief escape from everyday life. For every single cocktail, an individual and unusual form of presentation is created. "Our new bar doesn't only appeal to the nose and palate, but also the eye, the ear and our natural play instinct. There is something to discover everywhere, and so we have also appropriated objects such as bird houses, a wooden shrine or a metre-long bamboo stick and transformed them into creative cocktail containers."

The kitchen team at the luxury Berlin hotel serves bar snacks to match the creative drinks at Fragrances, which concentrates the aromas of the perfumes and cocktails using the principle of food-pairing. Thus, for example, the sweet "Macaron Énorme" with vanilla and raspberries ideally matches the drink "Signorina," which was inspired by the fragrance of the same name by Salvatore Ferragamo.

Fragrances is open as of now on Fridays and Saturdays from 6 pm to 2 am. For guests who wish to delve deeper into the subject matter of fragrances and aromas, The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin offers a special "Luxury Perfume Weekend" in cooperation with the Berlin perfume manufacturer Frau Tonis Parfum. At an exclusive workshop, you can discover more about the beguiling world of aromas, and can create your own personal fragrance together with a perfume expert. Champagne, canapés and exotic fruits round off your stay in the perfumery at Checkpoint Charlie. In the evening, Arnd Heissen serves an aromatically matching cocktail at Fragrances, which is based on the eau de parfum of the fragrance maker.
