AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS--(Marketwired - Sep 12, 2014) - IBC 2014 -- Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-network, multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today announced that Swisscom, the leader of the Swiss digital TV market, has selected the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) to provide enhanced revenue security for its new Swisscom TV 2.0 service offering, which offers integrated live and seven-day replay services for more than 250 channels via an advanced Android-powered set-top box (STB). Swisscom is the number one digital TV provider in Switzerland, with more than one million TV customers.

Within the new TV 2.0 service, Swisscom chose to create a best-of-breed IPTV platform that could integrate rapidly with its in-house developed middleware, Harmonic's ProStream multiplexing and scrambling platform, and with advanced security chipsets and STBs. As the top-ranked IPTV content protection solution globally, VCAS for IPTV enables the secure delivery of live and catch-up video services over Swisscom's managed IP-based network, and offers a solid upgrade platform for Swisscom to extend its competitive advantage.

VCAS for IPTV is integrated into Swisscom's TV 2.0 Android IPTV STB -- developed in conjunction with Vestel -- with iWedia software providing a smooth and intuitive user experience. The advanced security Android-powered STB also features Marvell's ARMADA® 1500 Plus (88DE3108) system-on-chip (SoC) platform with a Full HD video engine, dedicated security processor, and AVASTAR® 88W8897 WiFi. The new recording function gives viewers great freedom. Thanks to a cloud-based architecture, subscribers can now record any number of programs in parallel within a storage capacity of up to 1,000 hours. High reliability service delivery is managed via geographically redundant head-ends.

"Swisscom is committed to providing our subscribers with convenient access to services they crave, on the device of their choice, any time," said Volker Dietzel, head of TV Development & Technology, Swisscom. "We chose to upgrade our revenue security solution to VCAS because its capabilities clearly align with this commitment. Deploying VCAS for IPTV provides us with the flexibility we need to satisfy future customer demand beyond our managed network, while also seamlessly protecting our existing network configuration."
