    About Frac Sands

"Frac sand" is high-purity silica/quartz sand with very durable and very round grains. A crush-resistant material produced for the petroleum industry and used in the hydraulic fracturing process (known as "fracking.") In a fracture, the sand props open a wide, highly permeable slot allowing oil and gas to more easily flow to the wellbore. Frac sand demand has exploded over the past several years with the growth of the shale oil industry and associated completion techniques, particularly horizontal drilling.
