SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Oct 1, 2014) - While the housing and subsequent foreclosure crisis is reportedly over, the residual effects linger on. One of the clearest indicators is the rental market, which saw a boom following the housing bust and continues to stay strong. Whether this is because consumers are reluctant or financially unable to purchase a home, or a byproduct of the rise of online marketplaces, like AirBnB and VRBO, the trend lines are clear: it's time to rent smart. Online rental tools can help to ensure a safe, sound, and secure rental experience, and Rocket Lawyer's suite of legally binding rental agreements provide peace of mind for tenants and landlords alike.

Today, Rocket Lawyer, the affordable online legal service, released findings from a survey of people currently renting. The results reveal that, while 85 percent of renters know where their lease is, over 75 percent still use paper files (as opposed to cloud or online storage, 17 percent), leaving these critical documents at risk of loss or damage. Moreover, only six percent of renters had a legal professional look at their lease before signing it; because of this, 34 percent of renters are ambivalent or unconfident about their rights as tenants.

In an effort to ensure that today's rental community fully understands the ins and outs of this type of property arrangement, Rocket Lawyer is officially launching a suite of rental documents to help keep renters and their landlords in good standing with each other and the law.

These legally sound, easy-to-use, easy-to-understand documents include lease agreements (compliant in all 50 states), as well as move-in/move-out documents, official requests between landlords and tenants, and agreements to help manage roommate dynamics. By answering simple questions, consumers create their rental documents online and then sign them using Rocket Lawyer's Sign Online capability. They're stored in the cloud, making them easily accessible by both parties anywhere, anytime, on any device.

"I've been a renter and I've represented landlords and can say one thing for certain, the more informed each party is on where they stand legally, the better the relationship will be," said Charley Moore, Rocket Lawyer Founder and CEO. "So, we've created legally binding property rental documents that are easy to access (via the cloud) and in plain language, to make it simple and enforceable."
