GUIYANG, CHINA--(Marketwired - Jan 29, 2015) - Guizhou's Wing Cloud High Technology Ltd (Wing Cloud), a cloud computing service provider, is aiming to be an innovation hub of the province, with support from Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD). The company has successfully deployed a large-scale Ethernet fabric based on Brocade® VCS® Fabric technology, as the critical network foundation of its new cloud data center.

By leveraging infrastructure such as abundant hydropower and well-developed transport links, the Guizhou Provincial Government has set a target to develop the provincial capital, Guiyang, into one of China's top-tier hubs for cloud computing and Big Data by 2020. To align with this initiative, Wing Cloud was established last year and invested an initial 300 million yuan (US$48 million) to build an 8,800 square-meter data center that can support up to 12,000 servers and multitenant cloud computing operations.

"It is critical for us to provide advanced data center technology that is both efficient and environmentally friendly to win local, national and international customers", said Ning Xu, CEO of Guizhou Wing Cloud High Technology Ltd. "Brocade's Ethernet fabric architecture made it easy and cost-effective to scale out the data center network to eventually support more than 10,000 servers. It also provided support for SDN and NFV technology, which will need to be deployed as we scale our public and private cloud services".

In order to build an Ethernet fabric that could scale to thousands of ports within a single Layer 2 domain, Wing Cloud deployed a pair of Brocade VDX® 8770 Switches as spine switches in conjunction with more than 100 Brocade VDX 6710 and VDX 6740 leaf switches that provide wire-speed 1 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 10 GbE top-of-rack connectivity to servers hosting virtual machines. The Brocade VCS fabric is elastic, self-forming and self-healing, with efficient multipathing, automatic load balancing and support for secure VM mobility. These capabilities enabled Wing Cloud administrators to focus on service delivery rather than network administration.

In addition to the data center Ethernet fabric, Wing Cloud also deployed highly scalable Brocade MLXe-16 core routers to support extremely reliable and secure high-bandwidth connections to customers. The entire infrastructure is managed through Brocade Network Advisor, an easy-to-use network management platform for Brocade switches and routers across the entire network lifecycle. Wing Cloud can use Brocade Network Advisor to manage its data center fabric as a single entity or drill down to individual switches for fault, inventory or performance management.

"We are working with closely with Wing Cloud -- for aspects such as customer network design, consulting, and integration -- to help meet the needs of its broad range of cloud customers and turbocharge its business growth" said Eric Yu, vice president Greater China, Brocade. "The Wing Cloud data center showcases Brocade cloud technologies in China, encompassing not just Ethernet fabrics but also emerging SDN and NFV technologies for orchestrating and scaling the on-demand data center."

All Brocade networking devices deployed by Wing Cloud support key Software-Defined Networking (SDN) protocols, including OpenFlow and VXLAN/NVGRE. The Brocade VDX 8770 switches and MLXe-16 routers also operate seamlessly under the Brocade® Vyatta Controller, a quality-assured edition of OpenDaylight and the industry's leading open source SDN controller.

Wing Cloud is already testing the Brocade Vyatta Controller, together with Brocade Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) solutions - including high-performance virtual routing, stateful firewall, VPN functions and Layer 4 -7 application delivery services - with a goal of implementing them during the next phase of its cloud data center development project.
