Linde to supply Shell Eco-marathon with hydrogen
Munich, 26 February 2015 - For the fifth consecutive year, technology
company The Linde Group will support the Shell Eco-marathon and supply
participating fuel cell-powered vehicles with hydrogen. Last year, Linde
became a Global Partner of this event, one of the world's most challenging
student innovation competitions that takes place annually in Europe,
America and Asia.
"Each year the student teams demonstrate the enormous potential of fuel
cells with extraordinary ingenuity and enthusiasm. It is no surprise that
by now, hydrogen has achieved a top rank among alternative, zero-emission
fuels," says Markus Bachmeier, Head of Hydrogen Solutions at Linde. "We
look forward to once again supporting the student teams as best as we can -
providing not only fuel, but also practical assistance and advice."
As the event's exclusive hydrogen partner, Linde will supply
ready-to-install gas cylinders to the teams, who use fuel cell power units
for their competition vehicles. 54 teams are expected to compete in the
fuel cell category at the 2015 events, scheduled for 26 February - 1 March
in Manila, Philippines; 9-12 April in Detroit, USA; and 21-24 May in
Rotterdam, Netherlands. Linde's long-standing expertise in hydrogen enables
it not only to manage the hydrogen logistics but also to provide valuable
technical support and advice to the teams from across the world.
In addition to pushing the boundaries of fuel efficiency, Shell
Eco-marathon is also an educational platform, giving innovators practical
experience in the development of smart, sustainable transportation. Linde
welcomes this opportunity to present its portfolio and expertise to a
particularly highly motivated and skilled group of future engineers from
all around the world.
As the world's largest manufacturer of hydrogen plants, Linde covers the
entire technology spectrum required to successfully use hydrogen as an
energy carrier - from generation to refuelling. So far, Linde has equipped
over 90 fuelling stations in 15 countries with innovative hydrogen
refuelling technology. Furthermore, Linde is exploring new ways of
producing renewable, zero-carbon hydrogen, using wind, for example.
In the 2013 financial year, The Linde Group generated revenue of EUR 16.655
bn, making it the largest gases and engineering company in the world with
