    Markets in Britain increased for a second day on Tuesday midday led by supermarket chain Tesco, after the Company reported that its first half figures surged, and following the report, which showed that August annual inflation were unchanged.

    In the economy field, the Office for National Statistics reported Tuesday that U.K. August annual inflation remained at 2.9%, and were ahead oh the Bank of England´s target of 2.5%, although the growth of house prices were slow.
     
    Due to the report, the Retail Price Index excluding mortgage interest payments - known as the RPIX - was up 0.3% from July, and up 2.9% from the same period last year. The figures were mostly in line with expectations, as analysts estimated a rise of 0.3% on the month and 3.0% on the year.
     
    As well, the report showed that the all-items RPI rose by 0.2% from the previous month, and was up 2.9% from the same month in the previous year. That was a significant decline from the 3.1% annual inflation rate recorded in July.
     
    In the corporate field, oil giant Royal Dutch/Shell Group (LSE: SHEL) said Tuesday it has approved a budget of more than $1 billion for the development of the Salym oil fields in western Siberia, the Dow Jones Newswires reported today. Shares increased 0.44% to 399.50p.

    Among earnings reports today, Britain´s largest food retailer, Tesco (LSE: TSCO) announced on Tuesday that in the 24 weeks to August 9, pretax profit was up 17.4% to £628 million, while turnover increased 17.0% to £14.9 billion. The Company said that the results show all four parts of the strategy are delivering for customers and shareholders. Shares were 3.50% higher at 236.50p.

    Shares of British vaccines group Acambis plc (LSE: ACM) dropped 8.21% to 363.50p after it announced today that it CEO leaving the Company, saying that its first half pre-tax profits were £20.6 million, compared with a loss of £6.1 million in the year before, while sales were £82.3 million, up from £12.9 million in the previous year.
     
    Cobham plc (LSE: COB), aerospace and defense group, reported on Tuesday that it posted a growth of 14% in its first half profits as its military business managed to overcome continued difficulties in the commercial aerospace and electronics market. Also, in addition to its interim results, it announced two acquisitions in Avionics, which will become part of the Chelton Group, and one new order from BAE Systems (LSE: BA). Shares of Cobham added 0.83% to 1,217.50p, while shares of BAE Systems fell 0.41% to 181.15p.

    British e-business solutions provider Baltimore Technologies (LSE: BLM) reported on Tuesday that its loss before interest, tax, depreciation, amortization and exceptional items were reduced to £2.2 million from £9.9 million in the previous year, while total revenues were £9.7 million versus £22.1 million in 2002. Shares surged 12.12% to 37.00p.
