Global 500 Companies Rely on Cloud Foundry to Accelerate Development on OpenStack
AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwired - April 22, 2016) - OPENSTACK SUMMIT -- Many Global 2000 companies -- with some of the most expansive and sophisticated OpenStack implementations to date, have deployed Cloud Foundry on OpenStack. This combination provides a consistent experience from developer to operator in a full Open Source Environment according to the Cloud Foundry Foundation, home of the industry-standard multi-cloud platform.
More than half of all Cloud Foundry implementations run today on OpenStack, including Yahoo! Japan, the largest open cloud platform in the world. AT&T, Cisco, CenturyLink, NTT, Swisscom and Verizon all run Cloud Foundry on top of their OpenStack implementations. Leading Cloud providers, including HPE, Huawei, IBM, Pivotal and SAP, rely on Cloud Foundry to deploy on OpenStack for their customers.
"We are seeing more and more companies deploying Cloud Foundry on top of the most complex OpenStack implementations," said Cloud Foundry CEO Sam Ramji. "Companies want to use agile infrastructure (IaaS), but most importantly they want to develop applications that take advantage of it. Cloud Foundry simplifies development on OpenStack by providing a consistent experience for developers and end users."
"We consistently hear from OpenStack users that their priorities are standardizing the platform and APIs that power public and private clouds, as well avoiding vendor lock-in and building more with Containers. The combination of OpenStack and Cloud Foundry gives the community the potential to address all of these points," said Dr. Angel Diaz, VP Cloud Architecture and Technology, IBM Cloud. "At IBM, we've been working tirelessly with OpenStack and Cloud Foundry to help deliver on these three pillars, using them as the foundation for Bluemix, our own cloud platform. This has helped to grow Bluemix into the world's largest public deployment of Cloud Foundry."
"Running Cloud Foundry on top of OpenStack allows an extensive leverage of their openness and elasticity," said Marco Hochstrasser, Swisscom Head of Cloud Platform Development at Swisscom. "The integration of best-of-breed and leading edge components like SDN and SDS within OpenStack in combination with the intelligent BOSH abstraction layer of Cloud Foundry, enables us to provide a broad set of state-of-the-art features directly to our customers -- a real open source cloud experience."
Cloud Foundry has been developed through the collective effort of Pivotal, IBM, EMC, SAP, HPE, Cisco, Huawei, and leaders in manufacturing, telecommunications, financial services and thousands of developers. Only Cloud Foundry delivers the velocity needed to develop apps at the speed of business. Cloud Foundry's container-based architecture runs apps in any language on any cloud -- Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Compute Platform (GCP), OpenStack, VMware vSphere, and more. With a robust services ecosystem and simple integration to existing technologies, Cloud Foundry is the modern standard for mission critical apps for global enterprises.
