Pioneer in the field of FlexRay(TM) star couplers and transceivers
ELMOS Semiconductor AG has delivered the five millionth FlexRay(TM) device
to its customers. Thus ELMOS has reached an important milestone in the
still young history of this in-vehicle networking standard for connecting
electronic control units.
The ever-increasing use of distributed electronic control systems applied
in chassis and powertrain as well as in driver assistance and x-by-wire
systems lead to high demands on available data rates, real-time capability,
and reliability of in-vehicle networks. The response of the auto industry
to these challenges was the development and standardization of FlexRay(TM).
ELMOS actively participated in this project early on and brought
FlexRay(TM) chips to series production as one of the first semiconductor
companies in the world.
´ELMOS is a pioneer in innovative FlexRay(TM) ICs. We identified the market
opportunities of FlexRay(TM) soon and implemented the standard in globally
unique products ready for series production. These products represent
cutting-edge technology and give excellent example of our leading position
in the development of mixed-signal semiconductor solutions. ELMOS will
continue to keep pace with the latest trends and anticipate customer
requests, ´ says Dr. Anton Mindl, CEO of ELMOS Semiconductor AG.
The ELMOS portfolio comprises active star couplers as well as single
transceivers in this field. With active star coupler E981.56, up to four
branches of a FlexRay(TM) network can be connected with each other. For
this purpose, the ELMOS component provides four independent physical bus
drivers for sending and receiving FlexRay(TM) frames. As the world´s first
component, E981.56 has passed certification according to the latest
FlexRay(TM) Electrical Physical Layer (EPL) specification v3.0. With the
help of transceiver E910.54, individual electronic control units can be
connected to the vehicle´s communication network. Transceiver E910.54 thus
represents the link between the communication controller and the physical
bus. All ELMOS FlexRay(TM) solutions show excellent electromagnetic
compatibility (EMC) and high ESD immunity (electrostatic discharge).
ELMOS FlexRay(TM) components are used today by many manufacturers and can
be found in all cars applying this standard for setting up control unit
networks. ELMOS Semiconductor AG continues to invest in this technology and
will expand its FlexRay(TM) portfolio with more components shortly.
