BERLIN, GERMANY--(Marketwired - Aug. 29, 2014) - Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation is investing for the future in Malaysia with the official opening of a new Kuala Lumpur (KL) hub to support rail projects in Malaysia and the Asia Pacific region. The brand new office in the centre of Kuala Lumpur will accommodate more than 100 engineering, project management, systems integration and signalling specialists. This move confirms Bombardier's support for the advancement of Malaysia's rail industry and provides the platform to develop local talent and increase high-value employment in Malaysia's capital.

Pierre Attendu, President of the Systems Division at Bombardier Transportation, said, "Bombardier is committed to meeting Malaysia's public transport needs with cutting-edge mass transit solutions. This investment strengthens our ability to meet customer needs and ensures that we are well prepared to deliver upcoming projects in the Asia Pacific region."

Bombardier has a 20-year track record in Malaysia. Key projects in delivery include the BOMBARDIER CITYFLO 650 communications-based train control (CBTC) solution for the new 51 km Klang Valley mass rapid transit (KVMRT) Line 1, a fully automated and driverless system. Bombardier is also a supplier of onboard and wayside automatic train protection (ATP), interlocking and train detection equipment to KTMB, Malaysia's state-owned rail operator. For the Kelana Jaya Line in KL, Bombardier is supplying linear induction rail for the 17 km extension to the system, as well as delivering the mid-life overhaul of the original vehicle fleet (210 cars) and supplying 14 new four-car BOMBARDIER INNOVIA Metro 300 trains to provide additional capacity.

Delivered projects include the Kelana Jaya LRT system, the automated people mover system at the KL International Airport, as well as the KL Sri Petaling and Ampang Lines, formerly known as STAR (Sistem Transit Aliran Ringan), where Bombardier was the lead supplier for this full turnkey system.

In alignment with its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, Bombardier is an active participant in various community and educational initiatives that invest in Malaysia's future. For example, with its KVMRT and Kelana Jaya line projects, Bombardier is participating in Offset Programmes that will further develop Malaysia's railway industry through collaborative programmes with its customers, government agencies, local industry players and institutes of higher education.
