HALIFAX, NS--(Marketwired - May 06, 2015) -  Rallying community members of all ages and backgrounds, the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon celebrates its 12th birthday on Victoria Day weekend, May 15-17. Building Community is the theme of the launch event held today at the GoodLife Fitness Barrington Place Club in downtown Halifax.

"Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon welcomed our 100,000th registrant this year," said Gerry Walsh, co-chair, Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon. "Some people have run once, others multiple times, and it all adds up. We are also proud to host the largest Youth Run in Canada, with more than 4,200 participants aged 15 years and younger. Each year gets better and better -- thanks to the fun-loving spirit of all our participants."

Craig Thompson, Scotiabank's Senior Vice President of the Atlantic Region joined members of Halifax Dance, a Scotiabank Charity Challenge and Heritage Gas Marathon Relay participant, and other sponsors, partners and participants to announce plans for this year's event and provide an update on the Scotiabank Charity Challenge.

"Scotiabank is proud to be the title sponsor of the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon, which brings together such a diverse group of people during one, fun-filled, high-energy weekend," said Mr. Thompson. "We are also pleased to see the success of the Scotiabank Charity Challenge, which enables non-profit organizations, like Halifax Dance, and other charities like Phoenix, Ecology Action Centre and Symphony Nova Scotia, to leverage an existing online system to raise funds and to connect with runners and walkers looking to fundraise through their participation in the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon."

This year's event has expanded offerings for Friday, May 15 to Sunday, May 17, including:

    New Team Relay
For those who want the marathon experience without the distance, Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon announced the new Heritage Gas Marathon Team Relay event for teams of 4-8 members. Each person can choose from 8 different legs, ranging in distance from 4km to 8km. The Relay follows the Full Marathon route through Halifax and Dartmouth that includes scenic lakes, Shubie Park and Point Pleasant Park.
