Shoe Mountain and Socks for Soles
Donate your gently used athletic footwear and new pairs of athletic socks to help Nova Scotians! Shoe Mountain and Socks for Soles will be located in the Active Living Expo area of the World Trade & Convention Centre (WTCC) on Argyle Street during race weekend. The collection areas for Shoe Mountain and Socks for Soles will be fully marked for participants, volunteers and the public-at-large to drop off their donated shoes and socks on Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. or Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    New 80-plus age category
In celebration of encouraging people of all ages to join the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon events, a new 80+ age category was added for 2015. This means that runners over 80 are now competing with others in their age group for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards.

Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon offers green opportunities
As an event dedicated to sustainability, Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon has partnered with Clean Foundation for the second year to make the weekend as environmentally friendly as possible.

In 2012, Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon switched from water bottles to using hydrants for its water stations. The Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon collaborates with Halifax Water Commission to have the hydrants tested which saves tens of thousands of water bottles a year.

Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon has also partnered with Halifax Transit so that all registrants with a bib are entitled to free bus and ferry service on race day, including an early ferry Sunday morning (note: doesn't include MetroX or MetroLink).

To encourage carpooling, Impark will offer a number of parking lots for only $2 a day to Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon participants and volunteers. For details on parking lots, visit www.bluenosemarathon.com.

The bike valet is back. Located in Grand Parade, and operated by Clean Nova Scotia, free bike storage will be available: Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"Every year, Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon offers more opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate the importance of physical activity together in downtown Halifax and Dartmouth," said Rod McCulloch, co-chair, Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon. "The event has grown significantly over its first 12 years and is a great example of positive community spirit."
