    The University of Central Oklahoma announced on Friday, September 19th 2014 that Wei R. Chen, Ph.D., assistant dean of the College of Mathematics and Science at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO), recently received a $10,000 research grant to study the anti-tumor effects of hemp oil. UCO went on to state that the grant is funded by Earth Science Tech, Inc., a Florida-based biotechnology company. Wei R. Chen, Ph.D., a professor of biomedical engineering with more than 20 years of experience in cancer research, will serve as the grant's lead researcher. "I am very excited about the joint effort between UCO and Earth Science Tech to study the biological effects of hemp oil, particularly on cancer cells," said Chen. Hemp oil, a natural product extracted from hemp seeds, is proven to be non-toxic and beneficial to human health. The studies being done with ETST and the UCO will test the effects of High Grade CBD Rich Hemp oil on tumor, normal and immune cells. Chen and a group of research assistants will conduct their research in the Biophotonics Research Laboratory on Central's campus. "This project may lead to new understanding and potential applications of this natural product in cancer research," Chen added.
