Deutsche Wohnen publishes its second sustainability report
Frankfurt/Main and Berlin, 7 October 2014. In the context of the 17th
international real estate trade fair EXPO REAL Deutsche Wohnen presented
its second sustainability report today. The report, with the title
"Committed to Quality", presents and explains the economic, ecological and
social achievements of Deutsche Wohnen in the fiscal year 2013. With this
second sustainability report Deutsche Wohnen is reinforcing its commitment
to transparency and long-term engagement.
As Michael Zahn, CEO of Deutsche Wohnen AG, explains, "We are providing
answers to the challenges which the real estate industry is facing at the
moment. The continuing influx of people into towns and cities is putting
pressure on housing supply; an ageing society in Germany is developing new
housing needs; climate change and the associated regulatory requirements
are demanding energy-efficient building solutions. We are meeting these
challenges with our commitment to quality - vis à vis tenants, employees,
shareholders and society."
Deutsche Wohnen includes these challenges in its business strategy and
tries to find solutions to them. Together with the utility company GETEC
AG, for example, Deutsche Wohnen jointly founded the subsidiary G+D
Gesellschaft für Energiemanagement mbH in order to further increase the
energy efficiency of its properties. In all of this, the sustainability
reporting, which was started in 2012, serves as a tool for monitoring
progress and identifying further areas for improvement. In the year under
review, for example, the data basis for the company's holdings was expanded
to include further sustainability criteria.
The report meets the international standards of the Global Reporting
Initiative (GRI) and the industry-specific requirements of the European
Public Real Estate Association (EPRA). It achieved Application Level B and
was officially audited by the GRI.
The sustainability report is divided into a detailed report which follows
the guidelines of the Global reporting Initiative (GRI) and a
sustainability magazine which provides concrete examples of the activities
of Deutsche Wohnen. Both documents are available for download on the
website at http://www.deutsche-wohnen.com/html/en/
sustainability.php. The magazine is also available as a printed
