sharply tonight on 26,600 REDIBook shares after announcing it is shutting down a
joint study with American Home Products of the treatment ENBREL for chronic
heart failure. An independent data monitoring board found the treatment would
not meet efficacy endpoints.

SEATTLE, March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Preliminary analysis of data from a Phase 3 clinical study, announced today by Immunex Corporation (Nasdaq: IMNX) and Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories, a division of American Home Products Corporation (NYSE: AHP), demonstrated that psoriatic arthritis patients receiving ENBREL(R) (etanercept) experienced significant improvement in signs and symptoms of their disease compared to placebo.

Based on these results, the company plans to file a supplemental biological license application (sBLA) with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in mid-2001.

"We are extremely encouraged by these results," said Immunex senior vice president, clinical development, Leslie Garrison, MD, MPH. "We will work closely with the FDA to get this application rapidly approved since there are currently very few effective treatment options for this devastating disease."

CHF Studies of ENBREL(R) (etanercept) Will Conclude Early, Monitoring Board Advises Study Not Likely to Meet Efficacy Endpoints

SEATTLE, March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Immunex Corporation (Nasdaq: IMNX) and American Home Products Corporation (NYSE: AHP) announced today that guidance from an independent data monitoring board indicates that ongoing studies of ENBREL(R) (etanercept) in chronic heart failure (CHF) would not be able to meet efficacy endpoints. Based on this guidance, the companies have decided not to proceed with the large Phase 2/3 clinical studies in CHF.

"Future development decisions for ENBREL in CHF will be made after we have complete analysis of all data from these studies," said Leslie Garrison, MD, MPH, Immunex senior vice president of clinical development.

Wenn ich das richtig verstehe, wirkt Enbrel bei Arthritis gut, und bei chronischen Herzfehlern halt nicht.
Hab aber keine Ahnung was davon wichtiger ist.

drug wouldn`t be effective in fighting the condition.

Additionally, Immunex, a biopharmaceutical company based in Seattle, said
its experimental asthma drug Nuvance didn`t benefit patients in two studies. A
third study is continuing.

The disclosures sent shares of Immunex plummeting in after-hours action.
The stock closed at $18.88 in regular-session Nasdaq trading, up 81 cents on

Seltsam, seltsam: Wenn jetzt noch herauskommt, daß ENBREL nicht gegen Schweißfüße hilft,
halbiert sich denn der Kurs nochmal ? Finde es ja schon großartig, wenn Enbrel wenigstens
gegen Rheuma hilft.

Im Übrigen hat der Kurs jetzt in etwa seine faire Bewertung nach Vectorvest erreicht: 9,23.

sydney2000 hat`s wohl als einziger kapiert. CHF heißt chronic (oder auch congestive) heart failure was schlicht Herzinsuffizienz bedeutet. Die wichtigere Indikation ist jedoch eindeutig der Rheuma/Arthritis-Bereich, also keine Panik.
