Dear Readers,
You can see by the size of this
Fantastic Update there are a lot of
great activities going on reflecting
Fantastic’s positive forward
momentum: two successful trade
shows, product news, new
customers, BroadSphere information,
analyst meeting feedback and new
case studies.
Company cost cutting
program
Fantastic has had to implement a
cost cutting program that will result in
a lay-off of approximately 35% of our
staff. This is very regrettable but a
necessary measure in the current
market situation. Fantastic has to cut
the burn-rate and preserve cash so
as to survive until the market turns
around.
During the past year, Fantastic has
had to reinvent itself to adapt to the
realities of the dramatic Telecomindustry
slowdown. The lack of
industry standards, particularly in the
UMTS area, has destroyed most
short and medium term business
plans and predictions in the Business
to Consumer market.
The Company has redirected its
efforts. We are positioned well if we
execute our strategy with focus and
precision.
The strategy is clear; the sales
pipeline as well as the market
feedback confirm that our strategy to
sell and replicate corporate solutions
through our resellers in the B2B
market with strong focus on retail,
automotive and banking industry is
the right one to aggressively pursue.
Fantastic will be the leading
company for Corporate Solutions in
the multimedia broadband industry.
Due to this last round of
restructuring, Fantastic’s net
operating cash burn rate on an
ongoing basis will be reduced from
about $7.5 million per quarter to
below $5 million per quarter.
Reto Braun
Chairman and CEO
10th Swiss Retail Market
Event - September 13, 2001
Fantastic participated at the 10th
Retail Market event in Pfaeffikon/SZ.
Reto Braun gave a speech to over
370 top Swiss retail representatives
on the benefits of the Fantastic
corporate solution, emphasizing the
main advantages for the retail
industry. Speakers from other Swiss
Retailers including Coop, Media
Markt and Nestlé were also taking
part at the event.

MCP@IFA2001
IFA (in Berlin) was the most
important public information activity
for the Multimedia Car Platform -
MCP project, which will end
December 2001. The target of the
IFA participation was to show the
power of convergence. For this
purpose four demos were brought to
the exhibition. One was shown in the
technical scientific area, another one
on the Deutsche Telekom main
booth (see picture) and two had been
integrated into cars (BMW, Seat).
The demos were presented to a wide
range of VIP’s. The visitors had the
choice to join a ride in the BMW or
the Seat to see the services while
moving. Thanks to the big effort of
Nokia and Fantastic, attractive
services could be presented to the
visitors from the beginning of the
exhibition.
In later steps applications from TNova
and TU-Braunschweig could be
integrated and presented as well.
The demos gave an impression of
possible future services, making use
of car information, having access to
the Internet and being able to make
use of the integrated navigation
system. To show a safe user
interface, voice recognition and voice
rendering was used. It allows the
driver to use services while driving
without taking his eyes away from the
road.

Fantastic joins IBM at
IBC 2001, September 14-18
Recently Fantastic joined IBM at the
International Broadcasting
Conference (IBC) 2001 in
Amsterdam to launch the Fantastic
Corporate Solution. Fantastic invited
interested parties to experience the
Fantastic software platform demo
and to be introduced to IBM as a
major player in the solution provider
arena using Fantastic’s data
broadcast technology.
Visitors to the stand were also
presented IBM’s solutions for digital
rights management, media
production, storage and others. In
this context, the planned integration
of the Fantastic Corporate Solution
into selected products of the IBM
Digital Content Architecture was well
understood and received.
60 interesting leads
In total we collected around 60
interesting leads. Most of the interest
was focused around Fantastic’s
ability to broadcast to the edge of a
network, enabling cost effective, fast
and timely updates of such caching
servers. Also the interactive
television activities of Fantastic
together with ZDF earned great
interest.
The show was very positive and
affirmative for the relationship with
IBM extending and strengthening the
contact network. This includes the
more formal updates and
demonstrations of the newly
announced Fantastic Corporate
Solutions as well as informal but
nevertheless important discussions
about upcoming projects after the
show.
Media & Analysts at IBC
September 16th - 18th journalists
were invited to interviews offered by
Fantastic at the IBM booth. European
technology editors and reporters took
the opportunity to get the full picture
of Fantastic with additional inputs on
the reseller partnerships from
representatives of IBM.
IT Analyst Briefings
Several meetings were held over the
past week with different IT analyst
organizations to brief them on the
Corporate Solution. The objective
was to get more coverage from their
analysts and to get relevant market
input to support our sales activities.
Summary: All analyst companies
expressed a very positive interest in
Fantastic and believed Fantastic has
a good story to tell with the new
Corporate Solution. The Fantastic
strategic direction was validated and
confirmed as a good step forward.
These visits will be followed up with
further contact to continue to build
awareness. Several other analyst
organizations will also be contacted.
PowerPoint Broadcasting
with the Fantastic Platform
MS PowerPoint Broadcasting feature
in combination with the Fantastic
Platform enables Fantastic
customers to broadcast live
audio/video synchronized with MS
PowerPoint slides directly to client
desktops.
In order to use MS PowerPoint for
internal communication and training
purposes you only need MS
PowerPoint 2000, a USB video
camera with integrated microphone,
Fantastic BroadSphere and Fantastic
MediaSurfer 2.8 or 3.1 on each
receiving client devices.
Setting up and performing a live
communication or training session
can be done very easily directly out
of MS PowerPoint 2000 by following
just a few simple steps.
And best of all, by using the MS
PowerPoint Broadcasting feature in
combination with Fantastic
BroadSphere, MS PowerPoint
presentations are distributed to the
client PCs via package delivery,
making the presentations available to
the audience for later review.
New Customer Case Studies
Fantastic has three newly authored
customer cases produced by Product
Management: Enel.it, Automotive
and Retail. They can be viewed on
the website by simply clicking on the
corresponding case study title:

MediaSurfer 3.1
MediaSurfer 3.1 is out in beta being
tested at Enel.IT in Italy.
This latest release offers
breakthrough enhancements further
facilitating the mass deployment of
MediaSurfer. Moreover, a great deal
of attention has been paid to
enhance compatibility with corporate
IT infrastructure and streamline the
user interface as well as operational
procedures.
Besides many improvements and
enhancements, major new features
include:
• NTLM authentication and
Winsock proxy compatibility
• Seamless login with MediaSurfer
profile authentication based on
Windows account information
• Multiple administrator profiles per
MediaSurfer machine
• Fully parameterized installation
allowing for automated
installation based on
configuration files
• Automated VendorID generation
• Central installation log collection
through HTTP
• Protection against malicious user
through address encryption
MediaSurfer 3.1 is currently being
finalized and expected to be released
in the second half of October.
Enel.it
Based on the MediaSurfer 3.1
preliminary Beta tests, the final
acceptance of Enel.it was given and
final signature received.
This successful completion of the first
phase of deployment cleared the way
not only for revenue recognition, but
also for a fully operational use of our
platform for some pilot services and
finally the mass deployment of
several thousand MediaSurfer
installations in the Enel concern.
A big applause to the Enel team -
sales, support, project management,
and development.
Corporate Solution
Marketing Efforts
The recent addition of OmniCast to
Fantastic`s product portfolio has
fuelled the need to go to market with
a re-defined set of standardized
business offerings – Data Distribution
and Corporate Communications.
Initially, it was difficult to differentiate
between Fantastic’s platform and
OmniCast, and simply cutting and
pasting OmniCast messaging /
literature into a Fantastic format
would only serve to confuse people
internally and externally.
Corporate Solution Launch
A series of publications have been
produced in support of the new
Corporate Solution:
• Press Release - Corporate
Solution, available on our
corporate website.
• New updated, marketing support
materials available for ALL
existing products such as Sales
Briefing, Sales Presentation for
Corporate Solution, Platform,
MediaSurfer, MediaACE,
RepliCast, OmniCast
• White papers, etc. for Corporate
Solution, Platform, RepliCast,
OmniCast
Collaterals for all will be available
beginning of October, available
through the newly designed Product
Application table, which is a
simplified and restructured to show
which products are released, in beta,
in development and supported only.
"BroadSphere" selected as
the new identity for the
Fantastic CMC/CEC Platform
The new name nicely encapsulates
the seven key advantages that
Fantastic is articulating as we
present our Corporate Solution:
"Broad" represents Speed, Flexibility,
Rich Media and Experience and the
word "Sphere" describes Control,
Reach and Communities.
BroadSphere replaces both CEC and
CMC and sees the introduction of a
new web-based environment and
booking infrastructure.
New headquarters in Zug
As you might already know, the
headquarters of The Fantastic
Corporation has moved into a new
office building in Zug this week. We
didn’t go far - just behind the building
at Gubelstrasse. Our Bahnhofstrasse
employees are also in the new
building.
New Headquarters visitor and mail
address:
The Fantastic Corporation
Landis & Gyr-Strasse 3
P.O. Box 1350, 6301 Zug,
Switzerland
Fax and telephone:
All telephone numbers remain the
same. 880 will remain the reception
fax number. Fax numbers no longer
in use will be forwarded to our new
fax number 900 (fax numbers
stopping are: 658, 809, 812).
