Glu Mobile Rises on Analyst Upgrade Citing Favorable Stock Price, New Contracts
NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Glu Mobile Inc., which makes videogames for wireless devices, rose in early trading Wednesday after an analyst upgraded the stock for its attractive share price and downplayed concerns over the potential loss of certain license agreements.
Shares rose 54 cents, or 6.4 percent, to $9.
Banc of America Securities analyst Brian J. Pitz, in a client note, lifted his rating on the stock to "Buy" from "Neutral," saying the price looks attractive following a recent pullback. Shares are down about 30 percent since an Aug. 1 earnings report.
Pitz reiterated a $13 a share target price on Glu Mobile, which recently went public.
Some of Glu Mobile's products are based on license agreements with companies like toy maker Hasbro Inc. Glu Mobile recently said that Hasbro has shown a preference for multi-platform game publishers and therefore might not re-sign some license agreements, according to the analyst's note.
Hasbro titles represent about 10 percent of the company's estimated 2007 revenue, wrote Pitz.
Meanwhile, new agreements with other companies, including video game publishers, should offset any Hasbro losses in 2008, Pitz wrote. This, along with other favorable trends like mobile Internet growth, could lead to stronger-than-expected 2008 earnings, added Pitz.
The San Mateo, Calif., company is the third-largest developer and marketer of games for mobile phones in the U.S.
