North American Palladium is Canada`s only primary palladium/platinum producer. Their sole operation is the recently expanded Lac des Iles mine near Thunder Bay, Ontario. The mine has been in continuos production since 1993 and has just under gone a C$220 million capital mine expansion that has increased throughput from 2,400 to over 13,000 tonnes per day with a plan to go as high as 15,000 tonnes per day. The mine is predominately a palladium producer with approx. 9 ounces of palladium produced for every ounce of platinum. NAP is on track to produce more than 238,600 ounces of palladium this year and 252,300 ounces next year.

      Highlights

      2002 238,600 est
      2003 252,300 est

The expanded operation will increase palladium production to an average 250,000 ounces/year over a 17-year mine life.

Cash costs are expected to fall to US$178/oz in 2003

At year end 2001 the total reserves and measured and indicated resources had increased to 159 million tonnes averaging 1.55 grams of palladium per tonne containing 7,956,000 ounces of palladium.

In addition, the inferred resource category increased to 73 million tonnes averaging 1.57 grams of palladium per tonne or approximately 3,700,000 ounces palladium. This estimate includes 6.1 million tonnes of inferred resource grading 5.20 grams of palladium per tonne, containing approximately 1.0 million ounces of palladium, in the newly discovered offset high-grade zone.

Total reserves and resources, 11,656,000 ounces

PDL will exploit the richest part of the ore body in 2002 and 2003 which will equate to lower cash costs.

The stock is near a low on the chart and trading at a very low multiple based on next years projected earnings. I expect PDL to earn $0.60/share in 2002 and $0.90 in 2003 which equates to a 9 times forward earnings multiple.

Higher palladium prices would not only increase earnings but probably increase the multiple the market would put on these earnings.

PDL has a market cap of C$400 million and debt of C$117 million and PDL`s 8 million ozs of reserves are only valued at C$517 million or $US41/ounce. This does not give any value for resources and is quite a low valuation for a producing mine.

      Production

During the fourth quarter of 2001 the mill processed 1,146,563 tonnes of ore or 12,463 tonnes per day with a palladium grade of 1.985 grams per tonne, producing 51,475 ounces of palladium at a recovery rate of 70.4 per cent. Other metal production during the fourth quarter included
4,238 ounces of platinum, 3,817 ounces of gold, 1,164,674 pounds of copper and 604,933 pounds of nickel.

During the second quarter, 2002, the new mill processed 1,270,284 tonnes of ore at a rate of 13,959 tonnes per day, with a palladium grade of two grams per tonne, producing 62,168 ounces of palladium. This compares with the second quarter of 2001, when the combination of the old mill and the startup of the new mill processed 382,061 tonnes of ore
grading 2.39 grams per tonne, producing 20,274 ounces of palladium. Mill palladium recoveries in the second quarter of 2002 were 76 per cent, compared with 68.9 per cent in the second quarter of 2001.

      Financial

For the year ended Dec. 31, 2001, the company reported net income of $7.51-million or 15 cents per share (diluted) on revenues of $121,496,000.

For the six months ended June 30, 2002, the company reported net income of $13,767,000, or 27 cents per share, on revenue of $86,322,000, compared with net income of $8.99-million, or 18 cents per share, on revenues of $41,381,000, for the six months ended June 30, 2001.

After allowing for working capital changes, cash provided by
operations was $14,745,000 in the second quarter of 2002, compared with $10.95-million in the second quarter of 2001. Cash provided by operations was $13,654,000 in the first six months of 2002, compared with $21,357,000 in the first six months of 2001.

      Summary

I met with PDL at the PDAC in March and they are now expecting a much smoother operation in 2002 after the initialization of expansion in 2001. There is lots of potential to expand reserves, especially with the higher grade ore at deeper levels but this will not be an emphasis
of the company at this time as reserves are very adequate.

Obviously PDL benefited from the high palladium prices in 2000 and results in 2001 were effected by lower palladium prices and operation changes to implement the new mine plan.

      stock chart

The stock sold off to the $C6.00 lows in November because of some mine startup problems with the new expansion. It is not unusual to have a few start up problems with a new mine or significant expansion so this was an over blown concern. PDL is using a SAG mill operation and these are notorious for having initial start up problems.

After startup things were running smooth until last week when a problem with the crusher was reported. This is what has caused the stock to drop again, but is also another short term problem. NAP put more detailed news out on Tuesday, Sept. 16th

      2002-09-16 15:48 PT - News Release

An examination of the primary crusher has revealed that the bottom shell contains two vertical fractures. The fractures require repair which North American Palladium will commence immediately. The company expects the maintenance to be completed within a period of six to eight weeks.

The mill will continue to operate while the primary crusher is inactive. The company will feed the mill by reactivating the old primary crusher and operating the existing portable contract crushing supplemented with additional crushing equipment. Ore with an average grade of 1.5 grams per tonne will be processed from the existing broken ore stockpiles. During the period of the primary crusher shutdown the company expects the mill to operate at a throughput rate of 12,000 to 14,000 tonnes per day. This compares with 13,959 tonnes
per day in the second quarter of 2002.

The company has property and business interruption insurance and expects to pursue a claim under the terms of the insurance coverage.

      **********************************

The problem with a company that has one primary mine, is any problem with this mine it can effect operations and the stock price. However, if this is a short term problem and not very costly, the effect on the stock price is temporary. Last November it was startup problems with the new mine expansion that caused the stock to drop below $8 and you can see it soon recovered. I believe this is the case once again and
provides a wonderful buying opportunity for NAP. The stock chart also reveals that any move below $8 has been temporary and I expect the stock will soon move back above $8.00 towards $10. A little firming in the palladium price and this stock could easily give us a double from current prices.

The stock has good support around current prices and I don`t expect it to fall much further. If the stock does dip to $7.00 and below it would be an opportunity to add to positions.

North American Palladium Ltd. Announces Third Quarter 2002 Results Website: www.napalladium.com Trading Symbol: TSX - PDL AMEX - PAL Results of Operations

TORONTO, Nov 14, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- The Company realized net income for the three months ended September 30, 2002 of $2,894,000 or $0.06 per share (fully diluted) on revenues of $46,547,000 compared to a net loss of ($6,639,000) or ($0.13) per share (fully diluted) on revenue from metal sales of $23,225,000 for the corresponding period a year earlier. The increase in revenue in the current quarter was due to a 39% increase in palladium production, which was partially offset by lower palladium prices. The average spot palladium price in the third quarter was US$325 per ounce, down 32% versus the corresponding quarter a year ago. The Company sells 100% of its palladium production under a long-term sales contract with a guaranteed floor price of US$325 per ounce. To augment the sales contract, the Company has entered into forward sales contracts and realized US$899 per ounce on 12,600 ounces of third quarter production, resulting in an average realized palladium price of US$490 per ounce in the third quarter.
Effective January 1, 2002 the Company adopted, on a retroactive basis, the new CICA recommendations for foreign currency translation. By following the new recommendations, the Company records the unrealized exchange gains and losses on long-term US$ denominated debt in the consolidated statements of operation and deficit in the period in which they occur. Due to the volatility in the Canadian / US dollar exchange rate, the Company experienced an unrealized non-cash foreign exchange loss of $6,056,000 in the third quarter. The after tax impact of the unrealized foreign exchange loss was $3,596,000 or $0.07 per share for the quarter

For the nine months ended September 30, 2002 the Company reported net income of $16,661,000 or $0.33 per share on revenue of $132,869,000 compared to net income of $2,351,000 or $0.05 per share on revenues of $64,606,000 for the nine months ended September 30, 2001.

During the third quarter, the mill processed 1,210,799 tonnes of ore at a rate of 13,161 tonnes per day with a palladium grade of 1.83 g/t, producing 51,168 ounces of palladium. This compares with the third quarter 2001, when during the start-up period, the new mill processed 910,509 tonnes of ore at a rate of 9,897 tonnes per day with a palladium grade of 2.00 g/t, producing 36,891 ounces of palladium. Mill palladium recoveries in the third quarter 2002 were 71.9% compared to 62.9% in the third quarter 2001.

Production costs including overhead were $24,965,000 during the third quarter 2002 compared to $16,303,000 during the third quarter 2001. The higher production costs during the quarter were due to a 33% increase in ore tonnes milled, higher power rates and the need for contract crushing and the related increase in ore handling costs as a result of the unscheduled temporary shut down of the primary crusher. Ore mined during the quarter was 1,382,971 tonnes compared to 1,655,897 tonnes in the third quarter 2001. Of the ore mined in the third quarter 2002, 662,049 tonnes was classified as high grade (greater than 1.10 g/t palladium) and 720,922 tonnes was classified as regular grade (0.70 to 1.09 g/t palladium). The broken ore stockpile at September 30, 2002 increased to 8.3 million tonnes grading 1.14 g/t palladium and contained approximately 303,000 ounces of palladium.
Total cash costs to produce palladium, net of other metal credits and royalties, decreased to US$282 per ounce in the third quarter 2002 compared to US$306 per ounce in the third quarter 2001. The reduction in unit total cash costs resulted from increased mill throughput and improved palladium recoveries combined with stronger prices for other metal credits. However, the current quarter total cash costs were US$59 per ounce higher than the second quarter 2002 total cash costs of US$223 per ounce, largely due to increased operating costs attributable to the primary crusher shut down and the related affect on palladium production.

The operation was adversely affected by the unscheduled temporary shutdown of the primary crusher at the mine in early September 2002. The shutdown impacted both mill feed grade and mill throughput. The existing ore stockpile was initially utilized as a source of mill feed which contains a lower palladium grade than the current run-of-mine ore. In addition, the secondary crusher which typically provides finer crushed ore was utilized to provide a coarse mill feed which resulted in reduced mill throughput for September. Prior to the shutdown, the mill had been achieving targeted mill throughput as demonstrated in the month of August when mill throughput averaged over 15,000 tonnes per day. Repairs to the primary crusher are underway and are expected to be completed by early December 2002. Fourth quarter metal production is expected to be comparable to the third quarter with increased costs associated with contract crushing and ore rehandling. In addition, the primary crusher repair costs that are estimated to exceed $2.0 million will be expensed in the fourth quarter.

      Liquidity and Capital Resources
      -------------------------------

Cash flow from operations (prior to changes in non-cash working capital) was $14,207,000 in the third quarter 2002 compared to $627,000 in the third quarter 2001. Changes in working capital other than cash required $4,660,000 of cash in the third quarter 2002. Concentrate awaiting settlement increased marginally from 105,550 ounces of palladium at June 30, 2002 to 106,561 ounces at September 30, 2002. After allowing for working capital changes, cash provided by operations was $9,547,000 in the third quarter of 2002 compared to cash used of ($12,173,000) in the third quarter of 2001. Cash provided by operations was $23,201,000 in the first nine months of 2002 compared to $9,184,000 in the first nine months of 2001.
Investing activities were much reduced in the third quarter at $2,884,000 compared to $26,274,000 in the third quarter 2001 when construction of the major expansion project was being completed. Financing activities required $6,725,000 in the third quarter 2002 compared to $47,417,000 raised in the third quarter 2001. The Company is continuing to reduce its project loan facility and made a further payment of $6,551,000 in the third quarter, thereby reducing the loan balance to $115,908,000 at September 30, 2002.

Q3 results were released. Adjusted for a $0.07 per share foreign exchange loss
on its U.S.-dollar denominated debt, EPS were $0.13, $0.04 below our forecast.
      Impact
Negative. The result indicates that costs are still not under control and we have
lowered our EPS outlook for the company.
      Forecasts
We have downgraded our current year forecasts for production and earnings as
a result of the poorer Q3 and the slower completion of repairs to the crusher.
Crusher repairs will have taken three months, substantially longer than
originally indicated by the company. Our current year EPS estimate has been
lowered to $0.41 from $0.50. Higher depreciation and amortization charges and
modestly lower forecast metal recoveries have seen us downgrade our 2003 and
      2004 EPS by 18% each.
      Valuation
Our asset valuation for the company remains relatively unchanged (down 1%)
at $9.43 based on a $400/oz long-term palladium price and an 8% discount rate.
      Recommendation
Our target price has been lowered to $8.50 from $11.50 based on the use of
lower multiples and a 10% discount rate to reflect the company’s inability to
meet its production targets. The share price has been badly affected by poor
metals markets and ongoing operating difficulties; our $8.50 target price justifies our Outperform rating.
However, we are reviewing our metal price
forecasts and this has the potential to affect our forecasts in the near term.

S&P drops 13 companies from main Toronto index
Thursday December 12, 6:45 pm ET

TORONTO, Dec 12 (Reuters) - Standard & Poor`s announced another round of cuts from the S&P/TSX composite index (Toronto:^GSPTSE - News) on Thursday, dropping 13 stocks that barely trade or have small market capitalization.

After markets closed, the index manager said the deletions from the Toronto Stock Exchange`s main index would take effect at the close of trading on Dec. 20.

Familiar names such as Corel Corp. (Toronto:COR.TO - News), real estate company O&Y Properties Corp. (Toronto:OYP.TO - News), and Slater Steel Inc. (Toronto:SSI.TO - News) will join the more than 50 stocks that were dumped the first two rounds of cuts earlier this year. Stocks have been dropped from the index either because of S&P`s stringent new criteria or through attrition by mergers and acquisitions.

S&P has been on a year-long campaign to tighten the criteria for index inclusion, toughening standards of market capitalization, liquidity and share prices, and leaving some former big names out in the cold.

The revisions were sparked by complaints from large mutual fund managers who said they were only interested in the bigger and more active issues.

Listed below are the deletions from the S&P/TSX composite index, as of the close of trading on Dec. 20:

      Biomira Inc. (Toronto:BRA.TO - News)

      Corel Corp. (Toronto:COR.TO - News)

Gerdau AmeriSteel Corp. (Toronto:GNA.TO - News)

Hub International Ltd. (Toronto:HBG.TO - News)

Mosaic Group Inc. (Toronto:MGX.TO - News)

North American Palladium Ltd. (Toronto:PDL.TO - News)

      nesbitt comments on PAL
nesbitt was lead underwriter and all prices in canadian dollars

Corporate Developments – The improving operating
results over the previous nine months were interrupted by
the September announcement of unscheduled primary
      crusher repairs. Repairs were expected to take 6-8 weeks;
however, repairs will likely extend into December, longer
than forecast, during which time the mill will continue to
process lower-grade stockpile ore at reduced rates.
Fortunately, a working capital build-up secures cash flows
      for the next six months.
Studies into the underground mining potential at Lac des
Iles continue. Drilling should be completed in early 2003,
providing the basis for a feasibility study.
At the time of writing, no permanent replacement had been
found for its CEO, Keith Minty, who resigned in September.
Forecasts – Thanks to PDL’s forward sales program, the
low palladium price will not materially impact near-term
earnings. Our 2002 palladium production estimate has been
reduced to 223 koz from 260 koz. Despite the six-month
working capital build-up, a higher per-tonne cost forecast
has impacted our 2002E EPS and CFPS (now C$0.45 and
C$1.02). Recoveries are expected to remain low at 72% in
Q4. By 2003, production is expected to expand to 296 koz.
Valuation – The low palladium price and persistently high
costs have seen us review our reserve assumptions, and our
downwardly revised palladium price outlook has seen our
      8% NAV fall to $6.11.
      Recommendation – Uncertainty surrounding operating
performances, the replacement of the CEO and the poor
palladium price environment are likely to continue to weigh
      on the stock’s valuation.
      Using a 15% discount to our 8% NAV, 5x 2004E CFPS,
12x 2004E EPS and a market capitalization of $100 per
ounce of reserves, we calculate a target price of $5.75. We
are downgrading our recommendation to Market Perform
      from Outperform.

North American Palladium Ltd. Announces Operating Performance for First Quarter 2003

      16:42 EDT Monday, April 07, 2003

      Trading Symbol: TSX - PDL
      AMEX - PAL

TORONTO, April 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - During the first quarter of 2003, the mill processed 1,196,259 tonnes of ore or 13,292 tonnes per day with a palladium head grade of 1.99 grams per tonne, producing 58,791 ounces of palladium at a recovery rate of 76.9%. Other metal production during the first quarter of 2003 included 5,285 ounces of platinum, 4,564 ounces of gold, 1,396,155 pounds of copper and 772,545 pounds of nickel. This compares to the fourth quarter of 2002 when the mill processed 1,165,388 tonnes of ore or 12,667 tonnes per day with a palladium grade of 1.88 grams per tonne, producing 52,067 ounces of palladium at a recovery rate of 74.0%.

First quarter 2003 palladium production was 12.9% higher than the fourth quarter 2002, the result of improvements in mill throughput, head grade and palladium recovery. Mill throughput of 13,292 tonnes per day was achieved despite continuing problems with the primary crusher. The repaired crusher has proven unreliable since December 2002, and the Company has purchased a new primary crusher, which it expects to have operational by mid-2003. With the resumption of normal crushing operations it is anticipated further improvements will be made to daily mill throughput and palladium production.

Improved plant performance in the first quarter 2003 has resulted from a number of initiatives relating to the grinding and metallurgical processes. Ore blending procedures have been modified to provide a more consistent mill feed resulting in greater stability in the mill circuit. The operating and maintenance teams` performance has improved through experience and continuing training. Other improvements include better water control to the SAG mill, installation of a feed splitter to the ball mills to permit better distribution of feed gradient, and the installation of belt magnets to remove tramp iron resulting in better pebble crusher performance.

These improvements combined with the Company`s Palladium Sales Contract and palladium forward sales position should help the Company maintain a strong financial position. Despite the current weak spot palladium price, the Company will receive not less than US$440 per ounce for its expected palladium sales in 2003 as a result of the sales contract and hedging program.

The following table outlines the operating history since the first quarter of 2002:

      -------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Q1, 2002 Q2, 2002 Q3, 2002 Q4, 2002 Q1, 2003

      (ounces) 53,922 62,168 51,168 52,067 58,791
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------

      -------------------------------------------------------------------------

North American Palladium`s Lac des Iles Mine is Canada`s only primary producer of platinum group metals and is one of the largest open pit bulk mineable palladium reserves in the world. Palladium use in the auto industry continues to be an important component in controlling exhaust emissions as mandated by more stringent hydrocarbon emissions standards for cars, particularly in the United States, Europe and Japan.

Thema: Was haben Dow Jones, Nasdaq Composite, DAX und TEC-DAX gemeinsam?

Er ist groß. Er ist zurück. Und er ist schrecklich.

      Meine Kursziele Ende 2003:

      Dow Jones < 4.300
      Nasdaq Composite < 750
      Dax < 1.500
      TEC-DAX < 200
