[I-bank focus] Goldman upgrades Dongfeng (00489) to "buy"


Goldman Sachs upgraded Dongfeng Motor (00489) to
"buy" from "neutral", and lowered its target price to HK$14.51 from HK$17.45.
It noted that reasons for ungrade include attractive valuation, strong product pipeline
this year (Nissan Sunny/ March/ Tiida), and encouraging mid to long-term growth prospects
from local brand Venucia (low-to-mid range vehicle), Peugeot 508 and SUVs.
Goldman expects earthquake related damage to production facilities of semiconductors
used in autos will affect 2Q/3Q production. Accordingly, the house cut sales of major
Japanese brands in China by 8% in 2Q/3Q (4% in annual terms) and adjusted its estimates.

Dongfeng Motor mit Gewinnsprung, Einstieg bei GETRAG geplant
EMFIS.COM - Hongkong 30.03.11 (www.emfis.com) Der chinesische Autobauer Dongfeng Motor konnte seinen Nettogewinn im vergangenen Jahr um 76 Prozent auf 10,98 Mrd. Yuan (1,67 Mrd. USD) steigern. Dies teilte das Unternehmen heute mit. Der Anstieg sei vor allem auf die höhere Inlandsnachfrage zurückzuführen. Der Umsatz wurde 2010 um 33 Prozent auf 122,4 Mrd. Yuan gesteigert. Dongfeng hat im vergangenen Jahr 1,74 Mio. Einheiten produziert. verkauft wurden 1,95 Mio. Einheiten, 36 Prozent mehr als 2009.
Für das laufende Jahr erwartet Dongfeng Motor einen Produktionsanstieg von 13 Prozent auf 1,97 Mio. Einheiten. Für den Gesamtmarkt wird ein Absatzwachstum von 10 Prozent erwartet, nachdem dieser 2010 um 32,4 Prozent gewachsen ist.

Vor Kurzem wurde außerdem berichtet, das Dongfeng Motor anstrebt, einen Anteil von 30 Prozent am deutschen Getriebebauer GETRAG zu übernehmen. Die Beteiligung wird mit 500 Mio. Euro bewertet. Derzeit wird die Beteiligung von der Hagenmeyer-Familie gehalten, die diese aber verkaufen möchte.

BEIJING - China's Dongfeng Automobile, the listed arm of Dongfeng Motor Company, said Saturday its net profit in 2010 surged 79.54 percent year on year on robust auto sales.

The Shanghai-listed company, based in Wuhan city in central China's Hubei province, saw net profit reach 570.82 million yuan last year, compared to 317.94 million yuan in 2009, according to the company's annual business report filed with the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

Business revenues hit 19.8 billion yuan, a rise of 38.35 percent year on year.

Earnings per share stood at 0.2854 yuan, up 79.54 percent.

Vehicle sales of the company topped 300,000 units in 2010, up 44.8 percent, along with the fast auto sales growth in China, the world's largest car market with vehicle sales up more than 32 percent to top 18 million units last year.

Dongfeng Motor Corp, one of Dongfeng Automobile's major controlling shareholders, sold 2.7248 million vehicles in 2010, ranking second in sales volume in the Chinese auto market.

Die Fahrzeugproduktion kletterte um 25,15 Prozent auf 485.200 Stück nach oben.

Citigroup said Dongfeng Motor's (00489) February PV
sales grew 13% YoY but fell 39% MoM to 98,761 units, outperforming China February car
sales, which Citi estimated growth of 2% YoY but decline of 41% MoM.
Dongfeng will report 2010 results at the end of March, the research house estimated 2010
net profit to grow 86% YoY to RMB11,622mn, driven by passenger vehicle unit sales growth
of 34% YoY to 1,418,091 and gross margin expansion to 21.7% in 2010 from 19.1% in 2009.
Citi retained its "buy" rating on Dongfeng, with a target price of HK$20.75. (KL)

BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor sold 19,540 vehicles in February, up 29.8 percent year on year, figures released on Saturday showed.

Dongfeng's auto output in February reached 18,250 units, an increase of 11.3 percent from a year earlier, the company said in a report to the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

Sales in January surged 35.22 percent year on year to hit the record monthly high of 297,600 units.

The company aims to sell 2.9 million vehicles this year.

The equities of the Shanghai-listed firm closed at 5.3 yuan per share on Friday, up 0.95 percent from the previous trading day.
