Goldcorp CEO looking for acquisitions
Goldcorp CEO Ian Telfer says he`s shopping for acquisitions and his company has $1 billion to spend. He also talks about how strength in the U.S. dollar is impacting gold production.
http://www.marketwatch.com/tvradio/playerFull.asp?media=0&ba…
Irgendwelche Anregungen/Meinungen/Vorstellungen?

GoldCorp CEO goes shopping with $1B for acquisitions (GG) By Thomas Middleton
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Goldcorp. (GG) Chief Executive Ian Telfer says he is shopping for acquisitions and his company has $1 billion to spend. "We`re very interested in continuing to grow the company, and we`ve been amassing a cash hoard so we can go shopping in this choppy share-price market for the other gold mining companies," Telfer said. Goldcorp has nearly $500 million cash and a credit line for another $500 million for acquisitions, he added. "I`m looking for things that would give an additional 250,000 ounces a year to Goldcorp. That`s a little small for some of the very big companies, but it`s also too large for the mid-tiers," Telfer said.

Novagold, Bolivar, Alamos Gold, Gammon Lake
Evtl aus Resourcengründen Minefinders, Aurizon od. Linear gold.

Was meinst du bei Alumbrera?
Grüße

Hallo Tschonko,

Gold Prices To Hit $500/Oz By Year End - Goldcorp CEO
NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Gold prices are likely to rise to $500 an ounce by the end of the year and could reach $800 within the next two years, says Ian Telfer, president and chief executive officer at Goldcorp Inc.
...Telfer believes that the dollar is set for a decline and gold could seal a firmer relationship to oil.
"If that relationship came back (between gold and oil), we could get to $1,200 gold," Telfer said.
Physical demand from India will remain strong even if gold prices surpass the $500 level, Telfer said.
"The middle class in India is aggressively buying gold, and we have not seen much of a slowdown as we have in the past when gold prices were high," Telfer said, adding that he was not aware of a resistance point at which demand for gold would ease.

Gold miners to weigh prices, challenges in Denver
Sun Sep 25, 2005 2:27 PM ET
DENVER, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Gold companies will have much on their minds when they present their corporate picture this week at the industry`s big show, the Denver Gold Forum, only days after bullion shot up to command $475 an ounce for the first time in nearly 18 years.
The industry is contemplating not only the usual issues for gold, such as price or demand or the dollar`s direction, but also fresh challenges to miners like replacing reserves and meeting what some analysts are calling a "social license to operate."
At the 16th annual meeting, which starts on Sunday and runs through Wednesday, 78 companies will make their cases to mining analysts on the sell-side and more than 100 people on the buy-side in fund management, said John Haigh, Denver GoldGroup`s executive director.
The mining companies attending have a total market capitalization of $110 billion, or 99 percent of the gold industry as represented by market cap, Haigh said.
With investors buying up gold in recent weeks in a hunt for a haven from inflationary pressures and uncertainty in currency and energy markets, prices now stand a long way from lows near $250/oz low reached in the bear market of the 1990s.
Indeed, many producers are calling for gold to climb to historically high levels within the next few years, helped by various economic factors.
Ian Telfer, chief executive of producer Goldcorp Inc, said last week gold could hit $500 by year`s end and $800 within one to two years.
"I think this price rise is a little bit different and it`s going to last for a while," Telfer said.
...On the "social license" issue, miners must comply with local environmental, social and political standards, in order for their projects to be well-received, he said.
Concerns about increased political risk have arisen after Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez moved last week to tighten government control of the mining industry by revoking concessions.
Some analysts wondered if this signaled an emerging trend in which countries were becoming more nationalistic with respect to their natural resources.

Four Gold Stocks for Your Radar Screen
"Goldcorp (NYSE:GG).
Goldcorp has enjoyed enviably low extraction costs because its Red Lake Mine in Ontario has 2 ounces of gold per ton of ore as opposed to the 0.01-1.3 ounces found in the mines owned by larger North American companies like Newmont (NYSE:NEM), Placer Dome (NYSE:PDG), and Barrick (NYSE:ABX). Low extraction costs translate into healthy cash flows, higher margins, and higher returns on invested capital. Goldcorp`s average ROIC is an impressive 30% since 2001, which is outstanding in the gold mining industry. Under new CEO Ian Telfer, Goldcorp has set its sights on using the cash generated by operations to acquire its way into the 2 million-ounce-per-year category. We expect to see a lot of action and growth here, though we would keep a close watch on acquisition prices.
