"The reason for the proposed reduction is that...the fair market value of the shares in Lighthouse Caledonia ASA as of today is 9.5 crowns per share, as opposed to the original valuation of 12.50 per share," Marine Harvest said in a statement.
Umso besser, dann wird weniger Quellensteuer fällig. Der wahre Marktwert der Lighthouse-Aktien wird sich eh erst nach ein paar Tagen finden lassen.
Der starke Kursverfall der letzten Wochen lag wohl unter anderem auch daran, dass Fidelity seinen grossen Anteil (über 10%) unter die Leute bringen musste. Inzwischen hat Fidelity nur noch rund 4%.

SECOND MAJOR SALMON COMPANY ADMITS CHILE ISA PROBLEMS
(Nov. 22, 2007) Following the example of industry leader Marine Harvest, a second major salmon company has now broken a virtual vow of silence that for months shrouded ongoing sanitary problems in Chile’s US$2.4 billion farmed fish sector.
In an interview that appeared Wednesday in the Chilean daily La Tercera, Francisco Atiza, the top Chilean representative of the salmon company Mainstream, said Chile’s sanitary problems are “real” but by no means limited to just Infectious Salmon Anemia (ISA), a highly contagious fish virus detected this past July on several Chiloé fish farms. Mainstream, an affiliate of Norway’s Cermaq, is the world’s second largest farmed salmon company.
“The industry has a real sanitary problem that affects the development of the fish and contributes to poor production results. But the problem began long before ISA showed up. Ultimately this virus is a symptom, not the source of the problem,” he said.
The comments by Artiza follow closely on the heels of statements made Tuesday by Leif Frode Onarheim, the acting president and CEO of Norwegian-owned Marine Harvest. In a telephone interview with the Santiago Times’ sister newspaper, the Patagonia Times, Onarheim described the ISA situation as “serious” and confirmed his company’s plans to close several infected salmon farms near Chiloé, Region X (ST, Nov. 21).
“It is serious, because when you get one case it’s manageable. But it’s very easy for ISA to spread to the closest sites. And that’s what happened. We have had, I think, six or seven cases and so of course it is serious. We feel that as the sites are very close in Chile, in Region X, we are sure this has hurt a lot of companies,” he said.
To escape the over-crowded and disease-ridden waters of Chiloé, Marine Harvest is planning to move its operations south toward the less-crowded, disease-free waters of Region XI (Aysén).
In his interview with La Tercera, Francisco Artiza criticized that strategy, calling the planned moved to Aysén a “simple solution” that fails to tackle the more fundamental problems. “It’s a bad strategy and it does nothing to solve the problems that we now face in the traditional farming zones,” said the Mainstream executive, arguing that Region X’s numerous salmon companies should instead improve their aquaculture practices and agree to periodically rotate farms. “There’s more to it than just changing neighborhoods,” he said.
Artiza’s comments echo what environmental critics of Chile’s booming salmon industry have been saying for years – that the industry is overcrowded, polluting and - ultimately - unsustainable.
“The solution can’t be just moving the nets and cages, because ultimately that just means moving the problem elsewhere. That’s not a solution to the problems of over-concentration of farms, of the excessive use of antibiotics, of the presence of vectors (sea lice). As long as they don’t take all that into account, they’re going to have serious problems,” Cristian Pérez, a veterinarian and representative of the Washington D.C.-based NGO Pure Salmon Campaign told the Patagonia Times earlier this week.
ISA, not dissimilar to influenza, is a deadly virus that spreads easily and quickly. Symptoms include a paling of the salmon’s gills, swelling of the liver and spleen, and internal bleeding. The illness was first discovered in 1984 on fish farms in Norway. In 1996 ISA was detected in Canada, where it devastated New Brunswick’s then-budding farmed salmon industry. Scotland, another important salmon producing country, has had problems with the disease as well.
ISA was detected in Chile this past July, when scientists confirmed outbreaks on four Chiloé-area salmon farms – three of which belong to Marine Harvest (ST, Aug. 1, 6, 10, 15). To combat the problem the Chilean government’s National Fish Service (SERNAPESCA) implemented an extensive quarantine of the area and ordered all infected fish to be slaughtered. The World Organization for Animal Health later reported that approximately 1 million fish were sacrificed.
By mid August, SERNAPESCA and SalmonChile (the country’s private producers association) declared the outbreak all but resolved. Three months later, however, it’s increasingly clear that’s not the case. But even with Marine Harvest and Mainstream now acknowledging the industry’s sanitary problems, SERNAPESCA and SalmonChile continue to be closed mouthed on the issue.
Earlier this week the two bodies brought together numerous international experts for an ISA-focused workshop in Puerto Varas, Region X. The event was not only off limits to various environmental NGOs, who staged a parallel gathering, but also to members of the press.
“The Chilean government is aiding and abetting the closed door policy of its salmon industry by refusing to provide access to information. This blind eye toward environmental mismanagement and the refusal of Chile’s government to take action against the industry will continue to hurt all those connected to this industry, from consumers to investors in these companies,” Pure Salmon Campaign Director Andrea Kavanagh said in a press release.

Wer die Erwartungen verfehlt wird in diesem Markt halt hart bestraft. Vor den Vorhandenen Problemen hatte ich ja gewarnt.
Wichtig ist es jetzt vor allem die Krankheitsprobleme in den Griff zu kriegen.
Dass sich die Lachspreise wieder erholen, davon bin ich überzeugt. Letztens waren sie stark gefallen, aber Marine Harvest hat auf jeden Fall inzwischen die kritische Masse solche Krisen zu überstehen. Als der Markt noch zersplittert war (also Pan Fish, Fjord Seafood und Marine Harvest noch nicht fusioniert waren) waren die Einzelunternehmen nicht stark genug und nahezu Bankrott. Inzischen hat sich das Blatt gewendet. Es muss noch viel transformiert werden (das "neue" Unternehmen ist ja noch nicht mal ein Jahr alt), und ein guter CEO muss gefunden werden.
Demnächst dürfen wir uns auf neue Aktien freuen, für 100 Marine Harvest Aktien bekommen wir eine Aktie der neuen Gesellschaft "Lighthouse Caledonia ASA" als "Dividende". Das sind die ausgegliederten Schottland-Aktivitäten, deren Verkauf die EU-Wettbewerbsbehörden als Auflage für die Fusion verlangt haben.
Auf den ersten Blick erscheint die Ausgliederung ziemlich billig, wenn Lighthouse die Gewinne die im Geschäftsbericht angegeben sind wiederholen kann, dann würde die Bewertung von 12,5 NOK pro Aktie einem KGV von gerade einmal 2 bis 3 entsprechen. Leider werden bei der Ausgliederung wohl 25% Quellensteuer abgezogen so dass man effektiv pro 1000 Aktien nur 7 Aktien plus 6,25 NOK bekommt.
Ausserdem gibt es auch mal wieder positive Nachrichten, die WHO hat es der EU untersagt, die Anti-Dumping Auflagen gegen Norwegischen Lachs aufrecht zu erhalten:

in letzter Zeit gab es leider einige schlechte Nachrichten um Marine Harvest. Zunächst einmal haben Sie ein grosses Paket Aktien (ca. 10%) von Aker Seafoods gekauft, die kurz darauf eine Fabrik wegen entsetzlicher Hygienischer Zustände schliessen mussten
(http://www.aftenposten.no/english/business/article2041188.ec…). Es wird gemunkelt dass das Aktienpaket von Frederiksen stammt, das würde natürlich kein gutes Licht auf die Sache werfen, wenn schon vorher Dinge bekannt waren (aber das sind nur Vermutungen).
Dann gab es einen kleinen Skandal in der Lachsproduktion (http://www.aftenposten.no/english/local/article2061570.ece) der zwar MHG nicht direkt betrifft, aber das Konsumentenverhalten beeinflussen könnte. Dann noch der stark fallende Lachspreis (http://www.aftenposten.no/english/business/article2064402.ec…) und die Probleme in Chile (Krankheiten die die Fischbestände dezimieren) und die Lage sieht nicht so rosig aus ...
Worauf man hoffen könnte sind positive News von McDonald's wenn sie beschliessen den Salmon Wrap weltweit (oder zumindest Europaweit) einzuführen. MHG setzt ja stark auf die Kooperation mit McDonald's. Mich würde es auch freuen wenn Sie mit einer grossen Sushi-Firma Verträge aushandeln könnten.

Marine Harvest ASA has previously provided an estimate of total harvest volume for 2007 of 370,000-390,000 tonnes gutted weight. This figure excludes Pan Fish Scotland, which is held for sale due to the remedies set forth by French Competition Authorities.
In preparation for the divestment of Pan Fish Scotland, Marine Harvest has transferred Fjord Seafood Scotland (Outer Hebrides Seafood) and certain sites from Marine Harvest Scotland to Pan Fish Scotland. These entities will consequently be reported as held for sale from Q3 2007. Their harvest volumes will not be included in the reporting for Marine Harvest Scotland going forward and goes to reduction of the harvest volumes which will be reported for 2007. The estimated harvest volumes for these entities are in the range of 10,000 tonnes gutted weight in 2007.
Mainly as a result of the challenging biological situation in Chile, lower volumes than expected have been harvested in Q3. This development is expected to continue also in Q4.
As a consequence Marine Harvest has reduced its harvest volumes estimate for 2007 to 335,000-345,000 tonnes, of which appr. 95,000-105,000 tonnes are estimated to be harvested in Q4.
