Auch hier wurde die Dividende gekürzt (im Vergleich zum Vorjahr) - 35,35 ZAR, Valuta 15.03.

An explosion at Anglo American Platinum smelter in South Africa is expected to knock nearly 1 million PGM ounces off its 2020 guidance and has sent platinum group metals prices into a tizzy.
Amplats (JSE:AMS), the world’s largest platinum producer, traded down 14% on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. A subsidiary of Anglo American, the company processes nearly 40 percent of all newly mined platinum annually.
Spot platinum added about $40 and traded above $900, a level not seen since 2018. Spot rhodium traded up 12% to $11,200 ounce. Palladium briefly traded above $2,500 ounce.
Amplats said the explosion at its Waterval smelter, the ACP phase A converter plant, in Rustenburg caused the production drop and made it declare force majeure. There were no injuries from the explosion. Repair work is forecast for completion by Q2 2021.
The company said there is a water issue that is affecting other converter plants.
"As per normal business procedure, the phase B unit was commissioned to take over from the phase A plant and was in the process of ramping up to steady state, when water was detected in the furnace," writes Amplats. "Notwithstanding extensive testing being conducted to determine the source of the water, and a number of circuits being isolated, water continued to be observed in the furnace. This poses a high risk of explosion and the company has determined that it has no other option but to temporarily shut down the phase B unit, to ensure the safety of all employees, and avoid a catastrophic event. It is anticipated that the repair works to fix the phase B unit will take approximately 80 days."
The total platinum group metal production outlook for 2020 has been cut from 4.2 million to 4.7 million ounces down to 3.3 million to 3.8 million.

Wenn jetzt weltweit wegen Corona die Produktion und die Lieferketten zusammenbrechen, dann folgt ein Einbruch in der gesamten Nachfrage nach Industriemetallen wie Kupfer und Nickel, aber eben auch Palladium und Rhodium...!
Und Platin wird das vom Umsatz/Kurs nicht auffangen, Gold und Silber sind immer noch der sichere Hafen, nicht Platin!

In the local Tswana language, that’s Mogalakwena, the largest palladium mine outside Russia. The metal’s surge to a fresh record is turbo-charging the giant openpit’s cash-generating powers, and the new chief executive officer, announced on Thursday, must decide whether to expand further.
Mogalakwena – half way along the road from South Africa’s capital to the Zimbabwe border – churned out R9.9-billion in cash last year. That’s partly because, unlike other mines in the country, it produces more palladium than platinum.
“This is by far the most valuable mine in the platinum-mining industry,” outgoing CEO Chris Griffith said in an interview this week in Johannesburg. “It’s the most fantastic asset with a 100-year life.”
During his seven years at the helm, Griffith has ramped up output at Mogalakwena, helping the Anglo American unit to double its profit last year. The company is enjoying a further 40% jump in the palladium price since December and expects the supply deficit for the metal to widen to 1.9-million ounces in 2020.
When Griffith steps down in April, his successor must decide whether to expand the Limpopo mine’s output of platinum-group metals by another 500 000 oz. The outgoing CEO said that process won’t be rushed, as the company weighs options for an underground operation against another open pit.
Amplats could also build a third concentrator plant or upgrade one of the existing plants at the operation to ramp up output by 2024, Griffith said. Final studies are due to be completed by the middle of next year.
“This is a long game and we must do the right thing and not be chased by prices,” Griffith said. “Mogalakwena doesn’t need these prices to incentivize a new project, we don’t have to rush into anything.”
