First Horizon sees results worse than estimates

NEW YORK, April 29 (Reuters) - First Horizon Pharmaceutical Corp. (FHRX) on Tuesday slashed its first-quarter outlook, citing the recent withdrawal of certain products and bloated wholesaler inventories of others, sending its shares sharply lower.
The company said it expects revenue of $11 million to $13 million, far below its previous expectations of $20 million to $25 million.
First Horizon projected earnings for the quarter would fall substantially below analysts` expectations. Four analysts polled by Thomson First Call estimated, on average, the company would post a break-even quarter.
The company said its decision to withdraw its Tanafed Suspension and Tanafed DM cold and allergy products to concentrate on newer Tanafed formulations, combined with the burn-off of excess inventories of other products, contributed to the revenue shortfall.
Shares of First Horizon fell 79 cents, or 23 percent, to $2.60 in morning trading on the Nasdaq, where it was one of the top percentage losers. The company`s stock has been as high as $27.10 in the past year, as generic competition for its medicines have hurt earnings.
The company said it will release first-quarter results on May 14.
