Ivanhoe Energy Shares Hit 52-Week High

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Ivanhoe Energy Inc. shares rocketed nearly 29% and hit a 52-week high Monday following a recommendation by CBS MarketWatch`s chief commentator over the weekend.
Shares notched a new high of $1.30, vaulting over the previous mark of $1.18, set June 11.

CBS MarketWatch`s Thom Calandra has touted Ivanhoe`s prospects for the past several months in his subscription service, the "Calandra Report." But his appearance on CBS MarketWatch Weekend was the first time he publicly recommended the stock.

During the interview, Calandra said he expects the stock to rise to $10 within the next 10 months to 18 months.

Untapped is Ivanhoe`s prospects in China, which "could explode in positive way" in the next seven to 10 days, he said during the segment.

While visiting the facilities in the San Joaquin Valley in California, Calandra said he was impressed with the company`s new technology, which draws oil from the fields. The technology can be applied to both mining and natural gas production, he said.

With concerns of a looming natural gas shortage in North America, the company may become "the next energy cult stock" in the winter, Calandra said during the Aug. 12 edition of his Calandra report..

Calandra owns a stake in Ivanhoe. The anchorwoman who interviewed Calandra, Susan McGinnis, also disclosed she owned shares in the company. A spokesman for CBS MarketWatch said its staff is free to purchase the stock once the recommendations are published.

CBS MarketWatch Weekend airs nationally at different times on the weekend depending on the local station.

Ivanhoe spokesman John MacDonald attributed the day`s stock movement to the CBS MarketWatch recommendation over the weekend.

Ivanhoe recently traded at $1.27, up 27 cents, or 26.7%, on volume of 17.2 million shares. Average daily volume is 3.3 million shares.

Revenues for the second quarter ended June 30, 2003 were $3.1 million, a 3% increase over revenues of $3.0 million for the first quarter of fiscal year 2003 and a decrease of 48% from revenues of $6.1 million for the second quarter of fiscal 2002.

The net loss applicable to the common stockholders for the second quarter was $1.8 million or $(0.04) per share, compared to a net loss of $2.5 million, or $(0.06) per share for the first quarter of fiscal 2003, and a net loss of $4.0 million or $(0.10) per share for the comparable 2002 quarter.

"We are again very pleased with our progress in securing a number of major design wins during the second quarter," said Dr. Adya Tripathi, Chairman, President and CEO of Tripath. Dr. Tripathi, added, "We are delighted that Alcatel, a market leader in ADSL equipment, has chosen Tripath`s Line Driver for its 24 channel DSL line card. While Tripath has been successful in introducing products in the consumer electronics market, this design win validates the successful application of our core technology in the DSL market. We are also excited that Tripath`s digital audio amplifiers were selected to power Samsung`s three types of flat panel TV products. würde mich freuen. wir sitzen alle in einem boot und wollen weiterkommen. nur so geht es.
askj habe ich auch verkauft, war lange investiert. habe mich von stephan heibel, i-watch, beeinflussen lassen.
er schreibt askj ist völlig überbewertet. mit dem geld habe ich mogn gekauft. der durchbruch fehlt noch. glaube aber dass mogn eine gute entscheidung war.

Internet Initiative Japan: NTT kauft sich ein

Japans NTT (Nippon Telegraph & Telephone) meldet, insgesamt 10,883 junge Aktien von Internet Initiative Japan Inc für 10.35 Milliarden Yen (entspricht $88 Millionen) gekauft zu haben. Damit ist NTT mit einem Anteil von 31.6% nun der Hauptanteilseigner des japanischen Internet Technologie Anbieters. Der leidgeprüfte japanische ISP (Internet Service Provider) wurde durch die Insolvenz eines seiner Telekom-Sparten schwer getroffen, konnte aber im August mit der Ankündigung des Verkaufs von Aktien im Wert von 12 Milliarden Yen an NTT eine Wende schaffen.

Seit Anfang Juni stieg die IIJ Aktie vom Tief bei 1.41 Dollar auf zuletzt 7 Dollar – ein Plus von fast 400%.

Well, given this runup--especially in tech--I`d say there`s nothing that I`m pounding the table on right now but there are certainly a number of names that I own (tech or otherwise) that have had similar runups to WED that I`m perfectly content to continue to hold, perhaps for years.

ParthusCeva (PCVA) - semiconductor IP - great long-term record of IP creation + as chips get more and more complex it makes more and more sense for chip companies to work from proven licenced designs. ARM Holdings (ARMHY) is also a good company; I prefer PCVA because it`s cheaper on some measures and I suspect there`s more upside in their areas (WiFi IP, DSP cores, etc.).

DUSA Pharmaceuticals (DUSA) - like WED it`s quite speculative but at least their drug is already out there (yes, I know about WED`s bandages) and gathering steam. Their light-activated drug is used to treat AK`s (Actinic Keratoses) and has been slow to catch on, but it is being used by doctors off-label to get rid of wrinkly skin. It could be the next botox. And if not it`s still at less than 1.5x cash on balance sheet (much less than WED) and burning it at a lower rate.

Finisar (FNSR) - equipment for metro-area and storage-area connectivity. Their results are still poor but the turn in that business WILL come, and I know from a tech friend that they are very good technologically (better than JDS Uniphase, for example).

Jo-Ann Stores (JASa + JASb) - bit of a sleepy story in this hot market but at 11x eps I can live with it. They`re smart people with a good plan. It won`t double any time soon but if their Q3 is as good as I suspect it will be I think it could easily be trading at 15x-17x eps.

In Canada, I still like Sodisco-Howden (SOD) - still only slightly above book and around 9x what I expect eps will end up at this year. It`s a turnaround story and the guy at the top strikes me as a very smart person with a good record as a turnaround specialist. (I learned about SOD from the Contra the Heard guys.)

ich bin aber momentan gespannt auf die Entwicklung ganz bestimmter Aktien, die ich nicht ohne Weiteres wegen irgendwelcher Highflyer aufgeben möchte. Hört sich zwar skurril an.

Schau mal zB XOMA. Geb ich nun nicht auf bei 8$ nachdem ich sie nicht bei 12$ verkauft habe. Denn am 27.10. werd ich sie vermutlich zu 11-12$ los. Danach schaun mer mal. Auch die HQNT wird in den folgenden Wochen und Monaten wunderbare Ergebnisse bringen. Das will ich noch abwarten. CDE sollte man eigentlich gar nie aus der Hand geben, wenn man sieht, wie Silber verknappt. Unterhalb des Einstandes mag ich sie auch nicht verkaufen. Also bin ich gebunden.

bin gerade am umschichten, abverkaufen und umstrukturieren. hab deswegen wenig energie für neue aktien. bin schon mit den ganzen highflyern die wir haben überfordert, sie strapazieren derartig meine nerven das ich beschlossen habe meinen aktienfokus zu verkleinern und meine bestände bis auf eine handvoll aktien zu reduzieren.

bin ein bischen aktienmüde und freue mich auf das jahresende

befreie dich davon und bereichere den thread. erst dann wird alles wieder gut. bestimmt nicht bös gemeint. wir haben auch eine verantwortung. unser thread wird sehr oft gelesen und es gibt viele leute, mehr als wir meinen, die sich danach richten.
mir wäre es am liebsten, wenn viele davon provitieren und erfolgreich sind. nicht dass du meinst, ich wäre zur charitas gewechselt. es ist meine überzeugung, dass nur das der richtige weg ist. für uns und für alle.

Ich mag aber meine Bindung, weil ich meine Energie momentan in andere Dinge stecken muss. Sobald ich das habe was ich wollte, kann ich so wie du den Privatier spielen und die ganze Nacht nach Highflyern suchen.

Bleibt bitte dran, ich werde in nächster Zeit etwas langsamer tun im Board. Hab also grad nochmal gehustet und dann wesentlich dünner...

Übrigens - du magst über den deutschen Markt denken wie du willst - auch da kann man Geld verdienen. Habe gestern zuverlässig die zwei TecDAX-Aktien reingestellt, die heute morgen am besten gelaufen sind. Das bin ich mir schuldig, denn ich habe in den Hochzeiten des Neuen Marktes noch nicht den rechten Durchblick gehabt (wer hat das schon), jedenfalls hab ich damals eine Menge verpasst.

Player wie SAP geht`s doch prima, oder?

Aber DaimlerChrysler, die sich auf der ganzen Welt aufspielen als die Retter der Autokultur, laufen nicht so recht. Die zahlen übrigens kaum Steuern, weil sie einiges über Offshore machen, Isle of Man oder so was. Kenne kaum eine schlimmere Trickserei. Lieber kaufen sie die Pleiteadler (zB Focker) als dass sie ihre Steuern zahlen. Und das wurde seither nicht besser.

Ich lebe in Baden-Württemberg. Da der Daimler keine Steuern zahlt, sieht es nicht gut, egal ob CDU-Teufel oder Wirtschaftsminister FDP-Döring, die bringen es alle nicht. Hatten auch mal eine große Koalition hier aus CDU und SPD, das war auch nicht besser. Die SPD hat hier nicht viel hervorgebracht außer der Schwertgosch Herta: G.W.B. = A.H. (ehrenvoller Rücktritt). Die Grünen tun sich hier in besonderem Masse hervor, seither kriegst du in Tübingen verdammt schlecht einen Parkplatz.

Also kannste dich auch gleich hinter deinen Aktien verkriechen, die politische Landschaft in Deutschland ist so oder so verratzt.

Tätste aber erst in Amerika leben, dann würdest du wahrscheinlich keine amerikanischen Aktien mehr kaufen. Denn schlimmer als die derzeitige US-Regierung geht`s nimmer (bereits die Wahl war ein Schmierentheater). Da dich das aber nicht juckt, kaufste halt die Amis.

Jedem das Seine, ich lasse aber dein Argument nicht gelten. Ein (erträglicher) Mangel an Objektivität in deinem ansonsten guten Konzept.

der mittelstand, das sind die meisten, die zahlen die zeche. grossunternehmen und international ausgerichtete firmen, dazu zählt auch daimler, haben die gastgeschenke seit 1998 reichlich ausgenutzt. ich brauche dir wahrscheinlich nicht aufzuzählen, welche das sind.

Lassen wir mal die Politik weg, dafür gibt es in WO Politikforen. Mißstände gibt es schon lange und wurden von allen Parteien verursacht. Ich bin offenbar weniger parteigebunden als du. Jedem das Seine.

Was wir gerne diskutieren können: DAIMLER. Das hat was mit Aktien zu tun. Hauptproblem, die nehmen nicht nur alles mit, die lagern auch vieles aus. Auf die Kanalinseln. Für mich ein glatter Steuerbetrug. Aber die haben das legalisiert.

Was ich nicht gut finde, das ständiges Steuersparen beim DAIMLER führt zur fortlaufenden Akquise von schlechten Assets, Pleitekandidaten. Warum zahlen die nicht mal mannhaft ihre Steuern, statt sich immer wieder mit Fleiß die Bilanzen zu verderben.

daher verlasse ich mich nur auf den chart, die einzigste größe die für mich geld bringt, oder eben nicht. ausserdem habe ich gar keine zeit, alle unternehmen fundamental zu durchleuchten bei meinen scans von hunderten von aktien.

o.k. ich kaufe davon nur wenige, aber es fliegt auch fast alle ein- bis zwei wochen eine aktie aus meinem depot.

BEIJING/ORLANDO, Fla., Oct 22 (Reuters) - Telecoms software provider AsiaInfo Holdings Inc (NasdaqNM:ASIA - News) returned to profit in the third quarter and beat its own forecasts, but sales are unlikely to grow in the fourth quarter, the company said on Wednesday.

AsiaInfo said net income in the third quarter rose to five cents per basic share from one cent a year earlier.

That reversed a loss in the second quarter, when the deadly SARS epidemic slowed sales to Chinese telecoms operators, and topped forecasts it made in July.

It said full-year profits were likely to be nine cents to 10 cents per basic share, just below the middle of its previous forecast range of between eight and 12 cents.

Fourth-quarter net revenue was expected to be $15 million to $16 million, or flat compared with the third quarter, despite continued growth in customer spending.

"A pick-up in Q3 (spending) will probably continue growing in the next quarter, but it`s hard to say if it will exceed last year`s figure," Chief Executive Xingsheng Zhang told analysts.

AsiaInfo shares gained 16 cents to close at $7.21 in New York ahead of the earnings release and rose as high as $7.60 in after-hours trade.

China`s phone operators -- China Mobile (HKSE:0941.HK - News), China Unicom (HKSE:0762.HK - News), China Telecom (HKSE:0728.HK - News) and China Netcom -- have been slashing spending on network equipment but building their broadband Internet businesses, Zhang said.

CUTTING COSTS

The industry`s focus on cutting costs plays to AsiaInfo`s strength in billing systems, network management and other billable services, he said.

The firm`s net revenue, which excludes the cost of computer hardware sold with its software products, rose eight percent from a year earlier to $15.8 million.

AsiaInfo said it would buy $9 million in assets from Pacific Software (China) Ltd, a privately held software company based in Hong Kong.

The company said it was looking to enlarge its revenue base through acquisitions, to reduce its reliance on a handful of huge Chinese telecommunications companies.

Paul Cheong, a vice president at Merrill Lynch who maintains a "sell" rating on AsiaInfo, said it was too early to say if telecoms operators would spend more on software to improve their services.

"The results do look promising, but ultimately it`s the execution of the spending that really matters," he said.

In July, the company said it expected a third-quarter net profit of between one cent and two cents per basic share. It forecast net revenue of between $14 million and $15 million.

Due to the slowdown caused largely by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak across several regions in China earlier this year, full-year 2003 net revenue will be around $56 million to $57 million, AsiaInfo said.

Third-quarter sales were divided between its network solutions business, which saw a 40 percent rise from a year earlier to $7.4 million, and its software business, where sales fell 10 percent to $8.4 million.

The company cut third-quarter operating expenses by five percent to $8 million.

ist schon riskant deshalb habe ich auch erst 40% meines trade- kapitals verschossen. meistens gehts ja noch ein paar tage tiefer... manchmal aber eben nicht.

wenn ich größer rangehe teile ich immer meine kauforders auf bestimmte kursbereiche auf. der abverkauf läuft meistens genauso.

nächste kauforder liegt bei 28,20 u. 24,50, wobei ich an die 24 nicht wirklich glaube.

wenn der kurs die nächsten tage steigen sollte, lege ich die restlichen 60% bei bestätigten 35-36$ dazu

wir werden sehen... es ist immer gut zu beiden richtungen einen plan zu haben.

Ich hinterfragte einzig den Sinn, Charts von Aktien reinzustellen, die bereits extrem gestiegen sind.

Wenn es weitersteigt, war natürlich jeder dabei, wenn es nicht weitersteigt, hat natürlich jeder am Top verkauft.


Mir ist klar, dass die Strategie von Lofty ist, gerade solche bereits gestiegenen Aktien zu kaufen in der Hoffnung, dass sie noch weitersteigen. Was ja im aktuellen Marktumfeld auch oft passiert.


Aber trotzdem wäre es dabei interessant, auch ungefähr anzugeben, zu welchen Kursen gekauft/aufgestockt oder verkauft wurde.

Und das nicht aus dem Grund, um als Lemming die Strategie zu kopieren (ein Lemming war ich noch nie!), sondern um zu sehen, wie die Spekulationen aufgingen.

Reines rausfiltern von bereits gestiegenen Aktien ist technisch nicht sonderlich problematisch.

Highway Holdings Expands Business with World`s Leading Lighting Company

HONG KONG, Jan. 2, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Highway Holdings Limited (NasdaqSC:HIHO - News) today announced it has received an initial original equipment manufacturing order from OSRAM GmbH, a subsidiary of Siemens AG (NYSE:SI - News), valued at approximately $3.7 million. The company said this initial contract represents an entirely new business line and the beginning of a long-term commitment to produce finished products in an original equipment manufacturing capacity.

Production by Highway Holdings of the lighting fixtures under this agreement is expected to commence in March/April 2004. The agreement`s initial term expires at the end of 2004, but will automatically be extended thereafter for successive one-year periods subject to annual pricing adjustments. Additional terms were not disclosed.

Highway Holdings said it will establish a new 50,000-square foot factory at its existing facility dedicated exclusively to original equipment manufacturing of light fixtures for OSRAM. It has budgeted $500,000 for factory set-up costs, including the purchase of machinery and other necessary equipment for the new operation, which will have an initial annual production capacity, if fully utilized, for approximately $12 million of business volume.

``The awarding of this OEM contract offers Highway Holdings an opportunity for significant revenue and earnings growth in an entirely new business segment. Our relationship with OSRAM and its subsidiaries over the past ten years has been mutually beneficial, with Highway Holdings supplying metal casings for electronic ballasts and various other components. GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Dow Jones)--ASV Inc. projected 2004 earnings per share of 85 cents to $1.05 on revenue of $130 million to $155 million, saying it expects the market for rubber-track loaders to continues to grow.
Following the news Thursday, the company`s stock was up 3.8%, or $1.21, to trade at $32.85 on Nasdaq.

The company`s 2003 guidance, issued in October, is for earnings of 76 cents to 79 cents a share on sales of $92 to $95 million.

ASV, which makes industrial vehicles, said in a release that its R-Series Posi-Track products were likely account for about half of 2004 sales, while undercarriage sales to Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT - News) would be 40% of the total. Parts and used equipment sales were seen as making up the balance.

The company said its 2004 earnings outlook was based on the assumption it would have 14.9 million outstanding shares next year.

For the third quarter, the company reported 10.7 million diluted weighted average shares outstanding. But ASV said options are being cashed in after its stock price rose to its current level from about $8 in late 2002.

Mentor Graphics Announces Record Fourth Quarter 2003 Revenue and Bookings

WILSONVILLE, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 2004--In anticipation of a presentation today at the Sixth Annual Needham & Co. Growth Conference, Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq:MENT - News) announced that its fourth quarter 2003 bookings and revenues had achieved record levels, with revenues in excess of the $190 million previously projected by the company. Bookings and revenues were particularly driven by strength in its Calibre product line. Calibre bookings for physical verification, extraction and resolution enhancement technology more than tripled for the quarter compared to the same period a year ago and grew more than 60% for the entire year. Book to bill was significantly greater than one.

The company noted that fourth quarter earnings before special charges and amortization of intangibles (EBG) continue to be projected to be approximately $.30 per share, because operating expenses were adversely affected by both the strength of the Euro and significant incentive payments to Calibre engineers triggered by the extraordinary performance of the Calibre product line. Incentive payments of similar magnitude are unlikely to occur in the future absent repeated extraordinary performance by the Calibre product line.

GAAP earnings, previously estimated to be $0.14 per share for the fourth quarter, will be negatively affected by the foregoing factors and pre-tax special charges totaling about $10 million or $0.14 per share (on a pre-tax basis), which may be offset in part by the yet unquantified effect of reevaluating U.S. deferred taxes charged upon the 2002 transfer of IKOS intellectual property to a Mentor Graphics foreign subsidiary.

For the full year 2004, assuming the continuation of Euro/Dollar conversion rates at current levels, Mentor Graphics continues to forecast EBG of about $.80 per share and GAAP earnings, including the impact of amortization of intangibles, of about $.50 per share. GAAP earnings may be affected by the resolution of certain tax issues that could reduce the effective tax rate, such as that described in the preceding paragraph.

The company emphasized that the foregoing results are preliminary and are subject to adjustments upon final closing of financial results and completion of the annual audit by independent accountants. Mentor Graphics will release fourth quarter and full year 2003 results after the close of the market on Tuesday, January 27, 2004.

Millicom International Cellular S.A. (MIC) (NasdaqNM:MICC - News), the global telecommunications investor, announced today that in the fourth quarter of 2003 its worldwide operations in Asia, Latin America and Africa added 386,701 total net new cellular subscribers. Total underlying subscriber additions excluding El Salvador for the fourth quarter were the highest on record. On a proportional basis, MIC added 218,931 subscribers, bringing the total at December 31, 2003 to more than 4 million.

At December 31, 2003, MIC`s worldwide cellular subscriber base increased to 5,690,542 cellular subscribers from 4,002,911 as at December 31, 2002. Transmeridian Exploration, Inc. (OTCBB:TMXN) announced today that logging results from the South Alibek #4 (SA-4) indicate the presence of significant oil pay. Oil bearing reservoir zones have been identified in both the KTI and KTII carbonate formations. The data indicates 440 feet of apparent net oil pay in the KTII reservoirs and 400 feet in the KTI reservoirs. This compares favorably to the oil pay thicknesses in the two other wells in the field, Alibekmola 29 and South Alibek #1. Production casing has been set to a depth of 13,780 feet in preparation for the well testing program.

SA-4 is the second well completed in our initial drilling program in the South Alibek Field. It is more than one mile southeast of SA-1, on the southern flank of the large structure which we estimate to be more than 10,000 acres in size. The third well of the drilling program, SA-2, is nearly three miles northwest of SA-4. This crestal well is currently at 13,025 feet, and is planned for a total depth of 13,800 feet.

As previously reported, SA-1 was estimated to have 360 feet of net oil pay in the KTII reservoirs, and 171 feet in the KTI reservoirs. Alibek 29 was estimated to have 418 feet of net oil pay in the KTII reservoirs and 358 feet of net oil pay in the KTI reservoirs.

`With this well, we are very optimistic about the potential of the South Alibek Field. Although preliminary, the results confirm our geologic model of the southeast flank of the field and will lead to an increase in proved reserves.`commented Bruce Falkenstein, Vice President Exploration &Geology. `Additionally, an oil pay zone is identified 650 feet deeper than any other well in the field. This has exciting implications on the reserve potential for the entire field. The deeper `lowest known oil`impacts the areal extent of the field, indicating it may be larger than previously mapped and holding promise that larger ultimate reserves could result from the new data.`

Die Versicherer erwärmen sich wieder für Aktien – Wenn aus Bären Bullen werden - „Lass’ die letzten 10 Prozent die Anderen verdienen!“

Die Aktienmärkte sind mit prallen Segeln ins neue Jahr eingedrungen. Mehr und mehr Strategen spüren den Zwang, Prognosen für 2004, die erst wenige Wochen alt sind, zu revidieren und ihre Indexziele anzuheben. Das weckt Erwartungen, schürt aber auch Phantasien, die mit den Realitäten kaum noch in Einklang zu bringen sind.

Wir zählen zu jenen, die nicht nur aus rein markttechnischen Gründen davon überzeugt sind, dass sich die Aktienmärkte in einer säkularen, also Jahre dauernden Baisse befinden. Daraus folgt, dass die laufende Aufwärtsbewegung eine Zwischenerholung oder eine zyklische Hausse im Rahmen einer fortbestehenden säkularen Baisse ist.

Diese Erholung hat letztlich nur einen Zweck: Die Masse der Baissiers und der Zweifler muss zu Haussiers mutieren. Wenn Erstere schließlich konvertiert sind, ist es aus mit dem laufenden Haussezyklus. Denn: Wenn alle wieder in Aktien engagiert sind, wer wird dann wohl noch kaufen?

Es hat sich in der Börsengeschichte immer wieder als ausgesprochen schwierig erwiesen, den Zeitpunkt auch nur annähernd im Voraus zu bestimmen, zu dem die Nachfrage saturiert sein könnte. Fest steht nur, dass nicht nur die Aktienmärkte zum Überschießen neigen. Fest steht ferner, dass sich die Aktienmärkte in Grenzsituationen irrationaler darzubieten pflegen als die meisten anderen Märkte. Dies erklärt sich ganz einfach damit, dass hier die Beteiligung Unerfahrener, von Emotionen Getriebener, Blauäugiger und ganz einfach Gieriger weitaus stärker ist als andernorts.

Eines lässt uns vermuten, dass der Punkt, an dem das gegenwärtige Spiel an den Aktienmärkten ein jähes Ende findet, nicht mehr fern ist. Aus Gesprächen mit großen Kapitalverwaltern wissen wir, dass in jüngster Zeit ausgerechnet einige Versicherungsunternehmen wieder Gefallen an Aktien finden.

Es geschieht das Gleiche wie Ende der neunziger Jahre. Als die damalige Hausse bereits weit vorangeschritten war, kamen sie auf die Idee, den Aktienanteil in ihren Portefeuilles zu erhöhen, um ihr Gesamtergebnis aufbessern zu können. Als die Hausse Anfang 2000 kippte, waren viele Versicherer bis zur Halskrause in Aktien engagiert.

In der Folge mussten sie ihre Positionen liquidieren, um der Insolvenz zu entgehen. Damit hatten sie einen wesentlichen Anteil an der Baisse, deren erste große Phase, je nach Blickrichtung, im Sommer oder im Herbst 2002 oder erst im März 2003 endete.

Unter dem Strich bleibt: Die Versicherer haben als große Gruppe Ende der neunziger Jahre teuer gekauft und zwischen 2000 und 2003 billig verkauft, also prozyklisch gehandelt. Das ist nach allen Regeln der Kunst ein schwerer, nicht beliebig wiederholbarer Fehler.

Doch gerade scheint dieser gravierende Fehler wiederholt zu werden. Die Verantwortlichen in den Vorstandsetagen mancher Versicherer, die bis Anfang 2003 Stein und Bein geschworen hatten, nie wieder Aktien anzufassen, kaufen, soweit sie noch in ihren Sesseln sitzen, mit zunehmendem Elan erneut Aktien ein.

Wenn dieses Beispiel, das die ewigen Loser an den Märkten beschreibt, noch etwas Schule macht, wäre dies ein starkes Indiz dafür, dass der Konversionsprozess, der aus Bären Bullen werden lässt, an seinem Ende angelangt ist.

Für die anderen zum Schluss noch ein Rat aus berufenem Mund. Gerald Loeb, eine der Ikonen der Wall Street, sagte dem Sinne nach einmal: „Lass’ die letzten 10 Prozent einer Hausse die Anderen einstreichen!“

07. Januar 2004 Mit zum Teil massiven Kursgewinnen machte in den vergangenen Tag die Aktie des irischen Ölprospektierungs- und projektierungsunternehmens Petrel Resources auf sich aufmerksam. Das auch in Berlin gehandelte Papier hat in London seit Januar bei zuletzt vergleichsweise hohen Volumina knapp 1.000 Prozent auf zuletzt 37,75 Pence zugelegt.

Was macht das Unternehmen scheinbar so interessant auf der einen Seite, extrem spekulativ auf der anderen? Die spekulativen Elemente sind leicht zu finden: das Unternehmen macht keinerlei Gewinne. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, ob es jemals welche erzielen wird, ist so gut wie nicht abzuschätzen. Auf der anderen Seite hat das Unternehmen schon mehrere Finanzierungsrunden hinter sich. Das Management war wiederholt in der Lage, neue Kapitalgeber zu finden.

Unternehmen hat im Irak Beziehungen

Der Grund dafür liegt weniger in seiner Tätigkeit an sich. Denn auf die Ölentdeckung und -projektierung haben sich auch viele andere Firmen konzentriert. Mit wechselndem Erfolg. Das spezielle an Petrel Resources ist die Tatsache, daß das Unternehmen schon vor dem Golfkrieg und unmittelbar danach im Irak tätig war und ist. Das Unternehmen erhielt schon vor fünf Jahren die Bor- und Förderrechte für einen 10.000 Quadratkilometer großen Streifen in der irakischen Wüste, hat schon vor dem Krieg seismische Tests durchgeführt und hat damit Beziehungen zu den maßgeblichen Leuten.

Ferner hat das Unternehmen eine technische Machbarkeitsstudie für die Wiederinbetriebnahme der stillgelegten Felder Subba und Luhais im Süden des Landes vorgelegt. Vorgespräche mit entsprechenden Dienstleistern sind schon geführt worden und Verträge wurden bis zur Unterschriftsreife ausgehandelt, aber auf Grund der damals bestehenden Sanktionen nicht unterschrieben. Die Frage ist nun, was mit diesen Verträgen passiert. Sollten sie nun unter den neuen Umständen umsetzbar sein, wäre das Unternehmen zum richtigen Zeitpunkt im richtigen Markt. Denn die irakischen Ölvorkommen zählen nicht nur zu den größten der Welt, sondern die Förderkosten sind im Vergleich mit anderen Lagerstätten - sei es die Nordsee oder Sibirien - unheimlich gering.

Spekulation extrem riskant

Kurzfristig enormes Potential brächte eine Wiederaufnahme der Ölförderung Subba und Luhais. Sollte Petrel Resources bei einem dieser Felder im ölreichen Gebiet um Khurmala und Himrin zum Zuge kommen, würde das Petrel zu einem ziemlich wertvollen Unternehmen machen. Die Situation gliche der russischer Ölunternehmen. Dort haben sich die Aktienkurse nach der Privatisierung und der effizienteren Wirtschaftsweise vermehrfacht.

Bei allem Optimismus sollte allerdings auf keinen Fall vergessen werden, daß diese Spekulation hoch riskant ist. Denn die Konkurrenz um die lukrativen Verträge ist groß und es gibt auch Bestrebungen, ein staatliches Ölförderungsunternehmen im Irak zu gründen. Das würde die Träume ziemlich schnell zunichte machen. Aus diesem Grund eignet sich das Papier sicherlich nicht für Witwen und Waisen. Wer an der Spekulation teilnehmen möchte, sollte nur einen sehr beschränkten Teil seines Vermögens auf das Papier setzen, den er bei einem Fehlschlag auch ohne Probleme verschmerzen kan

Im Vordergrund der strategischen Ausrichtung der paragon AG stehen Sensor Products, die schwerpunktmäßig für die Automobilindustrie entwickelt und produziert werden. Dieses Geschäftsfeld ist in die Segmente Air Quality, Convenience und Communication unterteilt. Das Segment Air Quality konzentriert sich auf sensorgestützte Steuerungssysteme zur Verbesserung der Luftqualität von Innenräumen. Im Mittelpunkt stehen dabei Luftgütesensoren für Automobile, wo sich paragon als Weltmarkt- und Technologieführer bezeichnet. Diese Geräte spüren Schadstoffkonzentrationen in der Außenluft auf und versorgen die Klimasteuerung des Fahrzeuges mit den entsprechenden Daten, die für die Steuerung der Zuluft erforderlich sind. Auf diese Weise kann die Luftqualität im Innenraum nach Angaben der Gesellschaft um mindestens 40% des messbaren Schadstoffgehaltes verbessert werden.

Im Segment Convenience stellt paragon elektronische Getriebe-Steuerungen und elektronische Komponenten für Multifunktionslenkräder her. Hier hat das Unternehmen seinen Focus darauf gelegt, den Komfort durch die Erleichterung der Bedienung an der Mensch-Maschine-Schnittstelle zu steigern. Das früher eigenständige Segment Control Units (Reifendruck-Controllsysteme, Temperatursensoren, elektronische Steuergeräte) wurde im Jahr 2002 in den Bereich Convenience integriert. In dem noch recht jungen Segment Communication entwickelt und produziert paragon technologisch optimierte Kommunikationskomponenten für das Automobil wie z.B. Mikrofone und Freisprecheinrichtungen. Zu den patentgeschützten Eigenentwicklungen gehört ein Gurtmikrofon, das auf Grund des geringen Abstandes zum Mund die Kommunikation im Fahrzeug verbessern soll. Seit Herbst 2002 werde dieses Mikrofon bei mehreren Automobilherstellern in Frankreich und Deutschland getestet, heißt es.

Das strategische Geschäftsfeld Electronic Solutions umfasst die komplette Wertschöpfungskette bei der Herstellung komplexer, elektronischer Baugruppen und Geräte, die im Auftrag von Industriekunden unterschiedlicher Branchen entwickelt und produziert werden. Das Spektrum reicht bis hin zum After-Sales-Service. Der Schwerpunkt der paragon AG liegt dabei auf den Gebieten Fertigung, Inbetriebnahme/Prüfung und Logistik. Entwicklungsleistungen und After Sales-Service werden optional angeboten. Die Fertigungsaufträge (inkl. Herstellung schlüsselfertiger Produkte) belaufen sich nach Angaben der Gesellschaft auf Stückzahlen von mehreren hundert bis zu einigen hunderttausend p.a.. Damit hat sich paragon als Anbieter flexibler Stückzahlen zwischen der reinen Massenproduktion und der Fertigung kleinster Größen mit hohen Individualisierungsgrad am Markt positioniert. Eingesetzt werden die Baugruppen sowohl in der Glasfaserübertragungstechnik als auch in Embedded Systems und in Handheld-Computern.

Drittes strategisches Geschäftsfeld ist seit dem vierten Quartal 2002 Building Control Systems. Dabei wurde das Know-how aus dem automobilen Bereich Sensor Products auf das Anwendungsgebiet Gebäude übertragen. paragon will hier sowohl mit eigenen als auch mit OEM-Produkten im Markt vertreten sein. Erstes Produkt ist der Gas Watch Dog, ein Erdgasdetektor, der bereits bei 5% der unteren Explosionsgrenze reagiere und damit andere Geräte am Markt überlegen sei, heißt es. Hervorgehoben werden außerdem das Preis/Leistungs-Verhältnis und die Langzeitstabilität dieses Gerätes.

Im Februar 2002 übernahm paragon die restlichen 49% der Anteile an der Miquest Corp. in Grand Rapids, Michigan/ USA; 51% waren bereits am 1. Juli 2001 erworben worden. Damit verfügt der Konzern nun über einen zentralen Standort in dem vom Management als strategisch wichtig erachteten Markt USA und zugleich über Nähe zu vielversprechenden Kunden, beispielsweise der US-Automobilbranche.

NEW YORK, Jan 20 (Reuters) - CheckFree Corp. (CKFR) , a provider of online bill payment services, on Tuesday reported a quarterly loss that narrowed, as payment processing and electronic bill delivery grew in the quarter.

The Atlanta-based company`s fiscal second-quarter net loss narrowed to $1.9 million, or 2 cents a share, compared with $11.2 million, or 13 cents per share, a year earlier.

The company said revenue rose 11 percent to $149.9 million during its second quarter.

CheckFree said it expects revenue of $149 million to $154 million in its fiscal third quarter, with earnings per share between 5 cents and 7 cents.

It increased its full year expectations for earnings per share to between 4 cents and and 8 cents.
