Wer noch Zweifel an einer positiven Entscheidung der FDA haben sollte, dem sei hier nochmals der Research Report von J.M. Dutton ans Herz gelegt. Die hatten schon bevor die erneute Verlängerung der Frist durch die FDA angekündigt wurde, eine zusätzliche Zeit von 2-3 Monaten prognostiziert.
Nicht nur allein deshalb erscheint mir diese Analysteneinschätzung als sehr vertrauenswürdig. Also schnell noch rein und dann up up.

Ich will die Euphorie nicht bremsen...

... ABER:

Am 16.04. steht die Entscheidung der FDA nicht an! Die letzte Entscheidung im Feb. wurde nur um 2 Monate, also bis zum 16.04. verschoben.

Der 16. ist also kein definitiver Termin, sondern Ende der verlängerten Frist. Und diese wurde bereits zwei mal verlängert!

Das bitte nicht vergessen und nicht erschrecken, wenn bei einer erneuten Verlängerung der Kurs wieder absackt!

Seit 27. Jänner haben wir über 1 USD geschlossen, also
ist der Kurs auch bei der letzten Verlängerung nicht
wesentlich abgesackt, kurzfristig vielleicht aber nicht
unter 1 USD, außer bei einer negativen Entscheidung.
Wichtig sind für mich positive Meldungen die es in
letzter Zeit einige gegeben hat und die kommenden Quartale
(positive Zahlen). Es kann natürlich sein das noch einmal
verlängert wird aber es kann genauso vor Ende der verlängerten Frist eine Entscheidung kommen. Das wissen wir beide nicht!!!

Will ja nicht weiter in offenen Wunden wühlen, aber nachdem der 16.4. ein Samstag ist, wird wohl der 18.4. auch möglich sein. Bisher war die FDA ja ganz gut im Nutzen von Limits.

Jedoch muss man auch dagegen halten, dass die Anzahl der "Claims" welche die FDA bestätigen soll ziemlich zugenommen haben und Sie in letzter Zeit schon sehr gewissenhaft prüfen.

(Nasdaq:NXXI - News) announced today that the results of its Diachrome® clinical trial will be presented at three prestigious scientific conferences in Spring 2005. The study was conducted in collaboration with XL Health, a nationally recognized disease management firm. The 453 patient multi-center trial evaluated the effects of Diachrome, in conjunction with prescription anti-diabetics agents, on glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting plasma glucose, and cholesterol profiles in people with type 2 diabetes. The Diachrome study is the largest U.S. clinical trail to demonstrate the health benefits of chromium-based intervention for diabetes. hier ne Message aus nem anderen Board,soweit ichs kapiert habe spricht NXXI heute auf ner Herzkonferenz.
Kann leider so gut wie kein Englisch und die Übersetzungsprogramme taugen bekanntlicher weise nicht wirklich was.

They present tomorrow. I assume they will release the details of the study after the presentation in media. I believe this may be the last day to gather shares before publication of the info.

Company Continues to Build on Its Chromium Expertise to Enter Global Diabetes Care Market


PURCHASE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 2005--Nutrition 21, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXXI - News), the leading developer and marketer of chromium-based nutritional supplements, today reported financial results for the third quarter ended March 31, 2005.
Revenues for the third quarter of fiscal 2005 totaled $2.4 million as compared to $2.6 million for the same period last year. Net loss for the quarter was $1.9 million, or ($0.05) per diluted share, compared to a net loss of $ 1.0 million, or ($0.03) per diluted share, in the third quarter of fiscal 2004.

Year to date revenues for the nine months ended March 31, 2005 were $8.8 million, compared to $7.4 million for the same period last year. Year to date net loss for fiscal 2005 was $3.4 million, or ($0.09) per diluted share, compared to a net loss of $3.3 million, or ($0.09) per diluted share, for the same period in the prior year.

Net sales, which consist primarily of nutritional product sales, were $2.4 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2005, as compared to $2.6 million for the same period last year. Year to date net sales for the nine months ended March 31, 2005 were $7.6 million, compared to $7.2 million for the same period last year.

Nutrition 21 shifts Chromax focus towards food

16/05/2005 - Nutrition 21 is positioning Chromax as a food and beverage additive, following the use of its proprietary chromium picolinate ingredient in niche products marketed by Pepsi and Pharmavite.

Until recently the market for Chromax has concentrated on its use as a key ingredient in chromium supplements for diabetes care, weight loss and sports nutrition, despite having been affirmed as GRAS (generally recognized as safe) and therefore suitable for use in food and beverage products in June 2002.
According to president and CEO Gail Montgomery, the company is in discussions with other major consumer product companies over the use of Chromax in “well-recognized, significant products whose positioning is aligned with [Nutrition 21`s] science and strategic goals”.

Montgomery also said that Nutrition 21 has secured international regulatory approvals for Chromax, which opens the way for it to work with multinational companies.

The new strategy was announced along with the company’s 3Q financial results, which saw sales dip slightly to $2.32 million from $2.57 million in the prior year period. But the combined effect of a 45 percent increase in cost of goods sold, 13 percent increase in R&D expenses, a ten percent rise in administrative expenses, and a 10 percent increase in depreciation and amortization meant that the impact on net loss was more significant: $1,87 million (-0.05 per diluted share) compared to $1,02 million (-0.03 per diluted share) last year.

The balance sheet was given a big boost towards the close of the quarter with the raising of $9.6 million capital. “The size of the financing, the terms of the transaction, and the quality of our new investors validate our strategic direction and the market potential of our chromium technologies," said Montgomery.

More positive results for the two preceding quarters mean that the company has a buffer zone to cushion the impact of a slower 3Q. Sales for the nine months ended March 31 were up 5 percent and net loss deepened $0.1 million.

"Net sales year-to-date were slightly improved despite general softness in the vitamin and supplement industry and a modest decrease in net sales during the quarter," said Montgomery, who maintains that the overall upwards momentum seen in spite of the latest sales figures is attributable to the company’s investment in clinical research.

Research collaborations include a four month trial announced last month with the Native American Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation to assess the health benefits and savings afforded by using Diachrome chromium picolinate and biotin formulation for type-2 diabetes sufferers in clinical practice.

In February the first clinical trial into the effects of chromium supplementation in children with type 1 diabetes, using Chromax chromium picolinate, got underway at the Childrens’ Hospital in Los Angeles.

New Trial Shows Chromium Picolinate Reduces Weight Gain Associated with Diabetes Medication

BATON ROUGE, La., June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Chromium picolinate significantly reduces weight gain associated with common antidiabetic medication, according to a study released today. Researchers at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center (PBRC), who conducted the study, also found that chromium significantly improved blood sugar control and insulin sensitivity.

These findings are important because more than 80 percent of people with type 2 diabetes are also overweight and chromium picolinate is easily available as a nutrition therapy in retail stores. People with diabetes who are overweight face an increased risk of disease-related complications including cardiovascular disease. PBRC researchers presented their findings at the American Diabetes Association (ADA) 65th Annual Scientific Sessions in San Diego, CA.

The randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled study, which was performed in collaboration with the University of Vermont College of Medicine, was designed to examine the effect of adding daily chromium picolinate supplementation to regimens consisting of oral antidiabetic medications, i.e. sulfonylureas. Specifically, a sulfonylurea, a commonly prescribed first line of treatment for type 2 diabetes, was given to 27 subjects initially for a three-month period. The subjects were then randomized to continue taking the medication alone for 6 additional months with or without chromium picolinate. The study participants who took 1,000 mcg of Chromax® chromium picolinate in combination with the antidiabetic medication experienced significantly lower body fat accumulation (0.12%) than the group taking medication and placebo (1.1%), particularly in the abdomen area. The study also found those taking chromium gained less weight (0.8kg versus 2.2 kg) and experienced an increase in fat free mass, when compared with the placebo group.

"It would be very advantageous, from a clinical perspective, to have a regimen to improve glucose levels and minimize weight gain in our subjects with diabetes associated with the chronic administration of prescription medications. The impact of chromium picolinate on weight gain, particularly weight gain in the abdominal area, is important as research shows that increased abdominal fat is associated with a greater risk for health complications, such as cardiovascular disease," said study investigator, William Cefalu, MD, chief of the Center`s Division of Nutrition and Chronic Diseases.

The study also found that chromium picolinate taken in combination with antidiabetic medication significantly improved both insulin sensitivity (assessed with hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamps using stable isotopes) and glucose control. Blood sugar levels of study participants taking chromium picolinate in combination with antidiabetic medication dropped significantly (0.7%-greater point drop in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C), a marker for long term blood sugar control) compared to the placebo group. Additionally, subjects taking chromium picolinate had significant increases in glucose disposal.

"The results add to a growing body of evidence suggesting that chromium may serve as a safe and effective adjunct therapy to medication in helping to better manage blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes," said Dr. Cefalu.

The Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of the Louisiana State University System and conducts both clinical and basic research. It is the largest academically based nutrition research center in the world, with the greatest number of obesity researchers on faculty. The Center`s nearly 600 employees occupy several buildings on the 234-acre campus.

wann die nächsten Quartalszahlen kommen, mit der letzten
Verschiebung der FDA sind wieder viele Zocker ausgestiegen, ich denke die nächsten Wochen werden ruhig
verlaufen, die Aktie wird im Bereich zwischen 0,60 und 0,65 USD bleiben. Außer es gibt eine erfreuliche Meldung.

Ich hoffe natürlich nicht, aber ich denke doch
das sich im Herbst die Lage bei unserer Nutri
wieder deutlich verbessert. Die Zeit drängt
natürlich.

Nun ja, das Argument des Delistings ist eher positiv zu betrachten. Die gleiche Gefahr stand irgendwann letztes Jahr auch. Damals wurde dann offensichtlich massiv Kurspflege betrieben, um eine Anzahl Tage lang den Kurs über 1US$ zu hieven.

Bei dem engen Markt dürfte das für Profis auch diesmal kein Problem darstellen.

Also, wer evtl. aussteigen will, hat damit eine Chance durch die Delisting-Gefahr einen besseren Preis zu bekommen. Ich gehe davon aus, dass NXXI etwas unternehmen wird, wenn es nötig ist.

Sollten zwischenzeitlich schlechte News von der FDA kommen, dann hilft natürlich auch keine Kurspflege mehr!

Wer an NXXI glaubt, dem ist es eh egal!

Nutrition 21 Sues GNC for Patent Infringement

(NASDAQ: NXXI - News) announced today that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against GNC Corporation, Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiary, General Nutrition Centers, Inc. (collectively "GNC") for infringement of Nutrition 21`s chromium picolinate patents. The lawsuit was filed on June 23, 2005 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
The lawsuit charges GNC with infringement of United State Patent Nos. 5,087,623 ("the `623 patent"); 5,087,624 ("the `624 patent") and 5,175,156 ("the `156 patent"). Nutrition 21 holds exclusive rights under these patents for the administration of chromium picolinate for, among other things, reducing hyperglycemia and stabilizing the level of serum glucose; for increasing lean body mass; for treating undesirable high levels of blood serum lipids; for increasing blood serum levels of HDL cholesterol; and for lowering blood serum LDL cholesterol levels. The United States Patent and Trademark Office granted the `623 and `624 patents on February 11, 1992 and the `156 patent on December 29, 1992.

Nutrition 21 seeks an award of actual damages in the form of lost profits as well as a trebling of damages for GNC`s continued willful infringement of the patents-in-suit. Nutrition 21 further requests that the Court permanently enjoin GNC from marketing, promoting, advertising, offering for sale and/or selling chromium picolinate in any GNC product that is not purchased from Nutrition 21, and which is offered by GNC for the uses recited under the patents-in-suit. Halo Resources hat die Hauptpunkte eines Vertrages mit Wolfden Resources Inc. unterzeichnet, in dem Halo die Option erhält, einen Anteil von 50% des im Besitz von Metanor Resources Inc. befindlichen Bachelor Lake Objektes in Quebec, Kanada, zu erwerben.

Das Bachelor Lake Objekt, das sich in Lesueur Township in der Abitibi Region von Quebec befindet, besteht aus 50 Bergbau-Claims und zwei Minenkonzessionen, die eine Gesamtfläche von 1840 Hektar abdecken. Das Bachelor Lake Objekt besitzt die zur Produktion erforderliche Infrastruktur: ein Büro, einen Laden, ein Dry, ein Kompressorraum, einen Headframe und eine Mühle mit einer Kapazität von 500 Tonnen pro Tag mit einer Anlage zur Zyanidlaugung und einem Brechwerk und den folgenden geschätzten Resourcen. Von 1982 bis 1989 wurde der Bergbaubetrieb von einem vorhergehenden Eigentümer durchgeführt. In dieser Zeit wurden ungefähr 958.360 Tonnen mit einem durchschnittlichen Grad von 0,15 oz/Tonne bis zur untersten Ebene der Mine (1723 feet) abgebaut. Zuvor durchgeführte Studien zeigten, dass die Verdünnung während des Abbaus im Durchschnitt zwischen 34 und 55% lag. Bohrungen von der untersten Ebene der Mine im Jahre 1990 zeigten, dass die "Hauptader" reicher und in der Tiefe breiter ist und entdeckten eine parallele Goldzone, die als "B-Ader" bezeichnet wurde. Beide Zonen sind in der Tiefe und in Streichrichtung offen. Bedeutende Bohrungskreuzungen (geschätzte wahre Breite -- 0,65 opt Au in der Hauptader und 1,0 opt Au in der B-Ader) beinhalten 0,504 opt Au über 12,5 feet, 0,49 opt Au über 10,0 feet, 0,268 opt Au über 25,0 feet und 0,397 opt Au über 25,0 feet und 0,397 opt Au über 16,0 feet in der B-Ader.

Untersuchungen der Proben wurden in ausgewählten Intervallen von Tiefenbohrungen durchgeführt, die von der untersten Ebene der Mine aus im Jahre 1990 durchgeführt wurden und die zeigten, dass die "Hauptader" reicher und in der Tiefe breiter ist, als die oberen Ebenen, die während der Geschichte der Mine abgebaut wurden. Halo Resources Ltd. (TSX.V: HLO, OTC.BB: HLOSF) hat eine Absichtserklärung mit Endowment Lakes (2002) Limited Partnership (EL) betreffend die Option, bis zu 80% Anteile am Quarter Moon Lake Gold Property in Manitoba, Kanada, zu erhalten, unterzeichnet. Das Objekt umfasst fünf Bergbau-Claims mit einer Fläche von insgesamt 1072 Hektar. Es befindet sich im zentralen Nord-Manitoba, 75 km nordöstlich von Flin Flon und 61 km nordwestlich von Snow Lake.

Das Quarter Moon Lake Gold Objekt umfasst das kürzlich entdeckte Emily Gold Showing. Das Emily Gold Showing umfasst Goldmineralisationen in leucogabbro, assoziiert mit disseminiertem Pyrrhotit und Arsenopyrit in oberen amphiboliten Fazies, deformierten Gneissen des frühen proterozoischen Kisseynew Gneiss Belt. Die Zone mit goldhaltigen Sulfidmineralisationen ist über eine "strike length" von 29 Metern mit Unterbrechungen exponiert. Im Jahre 2004 wurde das Showing an drei Stellen mittels Sprengung geöffnet. Stichproben aus den Sprenggruben zeigten Werte von einigen ppb bis zu 29g/t Gold.

ELs bodenmagnetische, lithogeochemische und bodenchemische Untersuchungen deuten darauf hin, dass die nach Norden ausholende und nach Osten abfallende Zone in Streichrichtung und in der Tiefe offen ist. EL hat die Zone im Jahre 2002 entdeckt, als sie nach den Quellen extensiver Goldanomalien in Seesedimenten entlang des bedeutenden Loonhead Lake-Snow Verwerfungssystems suchten. Dieses regionale Verwerfungssystem ist eng mit verschiedenen Goldlagerstätten und Showings (New Britannia/Noracme, Puffy Lake, Nokomis Lake, Evans Lake, Wood Lake) verbunden.

Eine 1600 Meter Diamantenbohrung ist geplant, um das Emily Showing im Winter und frühen Frühjahr 2005 zu untersuchen. Ein Programm mit detaillierter Kartierung und Entnahme von Bodenproben ist für den Sommer 2005 geplant, um bedeckte Abschnitte des potentiell mineralisierten Loonhead Lake Verwerfungssystem auf dem Quarter Moon Lake Objekt zu beurteilen.

A three month study compared the effect of giving the mineral chromium picolinate or placebo to 50 people with type 2 diabetes. At the end of the study, insulin levels decreased in the group using 1,000 mcg of chromium picolinate. Lower insulin levels in type 2 diabetes are an indicator that the body’s sensitivity to insulin is improving.

Additionally, those taking chromium picolinate showed a significant improvement in an electrocardiogram (ECG) measurement that is normally associated with heart disease risk called the QTc interval. Habe mir gerade Nutrisystem angeschaut, dieser Wert ist
vom 27. September 2004 von 1,39 USD bis 1. August 2005
auf 23,88 USD gestiegen, wäre besser ich hätte mir anstelle der Schnecke Nutrition21 diesen Wert gekauft.
Die schreiben mit ihren Nahrungsprogrammen einfach Gewinne
und das ist der Fehler bei unserer Nutri 21, die Gewinne
fehlen, die gurken immer auf der gleichen Stelle herum.
Aber nachher weiß man es immer besser und darum bleibe
ich auch noch länger bei unserem Gurkenwert!!!
Es geht wieder Richtung 0,60 USD!!!

Zu den Überraschungen der laufenden Berichtssaison zum vierten Quartal sollte in den kommenden Tagen NUTRISYSTEM hinzukommen! Der Hersteller von Diät- und Fitnesspräparaten wird in gut einer Woche am 23. Februar seine Ergebnisse bekannt geben, einen kleinen Vorgeschmack gab man bereits Anfang Januar mit den vorläufigen Zahlen: Da kündigte das Unternehmen an, die ursprünglichen Umsatzschätzungen von USD 6 Mio. bis USD 6.6 Mio. weit übertreffen zu können und wohl USD 7.7 Mio. bis USD 7.8 Mio. erlöst zu haben. Das bedeutet eine Umsatzsteigerung gegenüber dem Vorjahreszeitraum von gut 85%! In der Zwischenzeit gab man sogar schon einen Ausblick auf das laufende erste Quartal, für das NUTRISYSTEM mit einer glatten Umsatzverdopplung gegenüber dem Vorjahr rechnet – von einem Abschwächen des Wachstums also keine Spur! Analysten wie The Seidler mussten daraufhin ihre Forecasts kräftig nach oben schrauben und erwarten per 2005 nun einen Überschuss von 18 Cents je Aktie statt bislang 11 Cents je Aktie! Dabei dürfte das Unternehmen noch nicht einmal das optimistische Szenario bekannt gegeben haben. Shares of Immunicon (IMMC:Nasdaq - commentary - research - Cramer`s Take) were among the worst-performing health-related stocks Monday, falling 7% after the company laid out plans to slash 25% of its workforce.

The company, which makes diagnostic and life-science research products, said the job cuts are being made to "align staff levels and other expenses with its current commercialization strategy and expectations for near-term revenue growth." Most of the cuts will occur in research and development, operations and certain support function, the company said. Immunicon expects to take a third-quarter charge of up to $1 million for severance and other costs related to the staff reductions.

Looking ahead, the company said that it continues to expect a 2005 cash burn of $30 million to $32 million. Immunicon expects its cost-reduction plan to mitigate its cash burn during 2006. As of July 31, 2005, the company had cash, cash equivalents and investments of $54.7 million. Shares were trading down 31 cents to $3.90.

Nutrition 21 (NXXI:Nasdaq - commentary - research - Cramer`s Take) rose 19% after the Food and Drug Administration approved a petition filed by the company to make a health claim about chromium picolinate and the risk of type-2 diabetes and insulin resistance. Specifically, the ruling allows the nutrition bioscience company to refer to chromium picolinate as a safe nutritional supplement that may reduce the risk of insulin resistance and type-2 diabetes. According to the FDA letter to the company, "One small study suggests that chromium picolinate may reduce the risk of insulin resistance, and therefore possibly may reduce the risk of type-2 diabetes. FDA concludes, however, that the existence of such a relationship between chromium picolinate and either insulin resistance or type-2 diabetes is highly uncertain." Nutrition 21 said the FDA declined to permit other claims proposed by the company. Shares were trading up 17 cents to $1.07.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The agreement calls for Dong Sung to secure regulatory approval from the Korean government before selling or marketing the products. New Study Published in Leading Toxicology Journal Concludes Chromax(R) Chromium Picolinate is Safe

Findings Support UK Food Standards Agency Acknowledgment of Safety

Nutrition 21, Inc., (Nasdaq: NXXI) today announced results of a new study that found Chromax(R) chromium picolinate does not produce chromosomal aberrations in Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells.(1) The study will be published in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Mutation Research, Genetic Toxicology and Environmental Mutagenesis and was conducted by BioReliance Corporation and monitored by ENVIRON Health Sciences. This is the second of two genetic toxicology studies that were conducted at the request of the United Kingdom Food Standards Agency (FSA) to assess the safety of chromium picolinate. The conclusions of these studies played a central role in the FSA`s December 14, 2004 decision to allow the continued sale of Chromax chromium picolinate in the United Kingdom.

BioReliance Corporation duplicated two tests in animal cell cultures to clarify results of two in vitro studies reported in 1995 and 2002 that showed increases in genetic damage to genes and chromosomes in Chinese hamster ovary cells.(2,3) The first BioReliance study was published in August 2005 and found that chromium picolinate did not damage DNA resulting in gene mutations.(4) This latest study showed no statistically significant increases in structural or numerical chromosome aberrations in CHO cells at any test dose level. The prior studies were not performed under International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) Guidelines, and did not use commercially available Chromax chromium picolinate. BioReliance`s studies were conducted in compliance with the ICH guidelines, applied Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Standards, and used Chromax chromium picolinate, a commercially available form of nutritional chromium.

"When chromium picolinate was tested using the internationally accepted guidelines, no chromosome damage was seen, even at test doses as high as approximately 770 micrograms/mL, a concentration that precipitated in the culture medium," said Ronald Slesinski, PhD, DABT, senior scientist at ENVIRON Health Sciences, and President of the Regulatory & Safety Specialty Section of the Society of Toxicology. "These findings are consistent with previous studies that showed no genotoxic effects from chromium picolinate in CHO animal cell cultures, living animals or humans and should put to rest lingering safety concerns about the safety of Chromax chromium picolinate."

The chromium picolinate used in this study was provided by Nutrition 21, the maker of Chromax. "Over the past 30 years, numerous experts and regulatory bodies have reviewed this evidence and concluded chromium picolinate is safe," said James Komorowski, MS, Vice President of Technical Services and Scientific Affairs, Nutrition 21. In August 2005, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recognized chromium picolinate as a safe nutritional supplement.(5) Moreover, an independent panel of toxicologists, researchers from academic institutions and leading scientific and governing bodies, including the Institute of Medicine and the United Kingdom`s FSA, reviewed chromium picolinate safety studies and concluded it is a safe dietary supplement.
