Fortuna Ventures hat heute nach 5 Monaten Trading Halt wieder den Handel aufgenommen und das gleich mit einem Plus von 117,39%. Diese Firma wird Schlagzeilen machen und die nächsten hundert Prozent sind vorprogrammiert.

Neulich haben sie sich das hier gekauft:



Fortuna hat lumpigste 6,461,221 Aktien draussen und ist heute schon krass unterbewertet. Bei den wenigen Aktien ist es schwer welche zu kriegen. Der Verkäufer über Leede dürfte bei den 2mio Stücken, die heute gehandelt wurden, auch langsam fertig sein!

The TSX Venture Exchange has accepted for filing an amended and restated stock purchase agreement, dated June 6, 2005, between Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. and Compania Minera Arcata SA and Compania Minera Ares SAC, both are privately held Peruvian companies. Pursuant to the agreement, the company has agreed to purchase 100 per cent of the shares of Minera Bateas SAC, a private Peruvian company holding a 100-per-cent interest in the Caylloma silver property located in Peru.

The total consideration payable by the company to the vendors is $7.55-million (U.S.) cash and shares and warrants comprising 10.803 per cent of the company`s fully diluted share capital at the completion of a significant financing to occur within one year from the date of this bulletin. In addition the property will be subject to a 2.0-per-cent net smelter return royalty payable to the vendors if the company recovers more than 21 million ounces of silver from the Caylloma property.

The cash consideration requirements of the acquisition will be met by a $100,000 (U.S.) non-refundable deposit (paid on March 15, 2005), a $2.95-million (U.S.) convertible promissory note due in six months and bearing interest at 9 per cent per year, and a non-interest-bearing $4.5-million (U.S.) non-convertible promissory note due in 12 months. In the event of default under the convertible promissory note, the interest rate will increase to 11 per cent and will be payable upon demand (see below for conversion details). Unless there is default there is no interest under the non-convertible promissory note. If the non-convertible promissory note is not paid when due, interest will accrue at a rate of 9 per cent per year on default.

The share consideration will be met by the company issuing the vendors 574,744 common shares and 862,117 share purchase warrants as at the date of this bulletin. The share purchase warrants are exercisable at 34.5 cents per share for a period of two years and if the company graduates to Tier 1 status on the TSX Venture Exchange within two years of the date of this bulletin, the term of the warrants will automatically increase to a period of five years. In addition, the company intends to conduct a significant financing in order to make the required cash payments noted above. At the close of the significant financing the company will issue additional consideration shares and warrants, on a 40/60 split, to the vendors in an amount equal to 10.803 per cent of the company on a fully diluted basis after giving effect to the significant financing (less the shares and warrants previously issued to the vendors). The additional consideration warrants will have the same terms as noted above.


Insider/pro group participation: At the time the finder`s fee noted below was signed, Jorge A. Ganoza Durant was not a director of the company but has since been appointed as director.



Finder`s fee: A finder`s fee totalling $220,000 is payable to, and allocated between, Mario Szotlender of Caracas, Venezuela, and Mr. Durant of Lima, Peru.

FORTUNA COMPLETES MINE ACQUISITION, PRIVATE PLACEMENT AND NAME CHANGE

Fortuna Silver Mines Inc., formerly Fortuna Ventures Inc., has closed the acquisition of the Caylloma silver mine in Southern Peru, completed the company`s change of name and closed a private placement financing.

Caylloma hosts an estimated seven million ounces of silver in proven and probable reserves, and 14 million ounces of silver in inferred resources (the estimates are compliant with National Instrument 43-101). The acquisition also includes a 350-man camp, a 600-ton-per-day mill and over 8,000 hectares of mining concessions.

As reported in Stockwatch on June 8, 2005, Fortuna agreed to purchase a 100-per-cent interest in the Caylloma silver mine in consideration of cash payments totalling $7.55-million (U.S.) and the issuance of shares and warrants totalling 10.8 per cent of the fully diluted capital of the company. The initial securities issued to the vendors are 574,744 common shares of the company and warrants to purchase 862,117 common shares exercisable at 34.5 cents per share for two years.

The company has also completed a private placement of 1.5 million units at 70 cents each. Each unit consists of one common share and one warrant to purchase an additional share at 75 cents for one year, raising gross proceeds of $1.05-million.

All of the above securities have a four-month hold period from the date of issuance, expiring on Oct. 28, 2005.

The company has also changed its name, effective immediately, to Fortuna Silver Mines Inc., and will continue to trade under the symbol FVI.

Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. (TSX VENTURE:FVI) ("Fortuna") is pleased to provide an update on its activities surrounding the recent acquisition of the Caylloma Silver Mine in southern Peru.

Caylloma contains a 43-101 compliant estimate of 7 million ounces of silver in reserves, plus 14 million ounces of silver in resources, and management believes excellent potential exists to significantly increase the silver, lead and zinc inventory with additional exploration, particularly on the polymetallic Animas vein system.

Fortuna plans to resume full production within 12 months of completing a significant financing. The company will also start a comprehensive drilling program in August, focused on evaluating the apparent bulk tonnage potential of the Animas vein, which was not taken into account in previous resource estimates.

Background

Previous production at Caylloma was completely restricted to several narrow high grade silver-only veins, with strike lengths of 1-2km, widths of 1-2m, and grades averaging 15 oz/t silver.

An important polymetallic (silver-lead-zinc) structure, called the Animas vein, was evaluated for its silver potential but never put into production. Significantly, this vein attains widths up to 20m, and has been traced over 4km of strike length.

Animas was explored in great detail (5000m of drilling and 2700m of underground development was completed in 2003-2004), but this work was also restricted to a narrow silver-only band within the greater vein width.

This work indicated that the silver band has average grades of 5-10 oz/t silver over 1-2m, but in some cases, drilling indicated greater widths of mineralization, from 3m to 7m of 2-7 oz/t silver, 3-8% lead and 7-10% zinc, with local zinc values up to 16% over 1m. Underground cross cuts also exposed a parallel silver band grading up to 13 oz/t silver over 4m.

Significantly, none of these wider mineralized intervals were included in the existing resource estimate, and Fortuna believes that these zones may represent a important opportunity to significantly increase the resource on Animas.

Work Plan

Fortuna took control of the mine on July 1, 2005, and now has technical staff on site conducting a detailed analysis of existing geological and drill data to determine the true potential of the polymetallic Animas vein.

This vein contains roughly half of the existing resource base at Caylloma, with indications from historic data (discussed above) that suggest both the silver inventory and base metal credits could be significantly increased with additional exploration.

The company will therefore embark on a comprehensive exploration program to define the continuity of polymetallic ore shoots within the Animas vein, as well as the potential for mechanized underground mining on the vein. Mechanization would offer the opportunity of both reduced costs and increased production rates. An initial 3000m core drilling program is due to commence in mid August.

The current mine plan calls for production to resume within 12 months, with first year production coming from reserves on several high grade silver-only veins, allowing time to develop stopes on the Animas vein and complete upgrades to the plant to handle polymetallic ore. Polymetallic ore would then be blended with high grade silver ore starting in the second year of production.

Capital Expenditures

Detailed financial and production models were prepared as part of the company`s due diligence, based on the existing resource estimate. These models indicate required capital expenditures of approximately US$7.5 million over 2.5 years, including roughly US$1.8 million in the plant.

The plant expenditures include allowances for the addition of a zinc recovery circuit to process polymetallic ore from the Animas vein, and to allow an increase in production rates to 1000 tpd.

Production was modeled at 210,000 tonnes of ore per year, resulting in annual sales approaching 2 million ounces of silver per year. Net smelter returns were estimated at roughly $14 million per year.

The Company will update these production and financial models as appropriate, to reflect any changes in production scenarios on the Animas vein.

Purchase Agreement

The Caylloma purchase agreement calls for staged cash payments totaling US$7.55 million, plus shares and warrants totaling 10.8% of the Company capital on a fully diluted basis. The first payment of US$2.95 million is due in November 2005.

The Company is now working to arrange a significant financing of up to C$10 million to cover this payment and a direct investment of approximately US$3.5 million in the mine over the first year.

Corporate Update

Fortuna is also pleased to announce the appointment of Tomas Guerrero as a Director of the Company. Mr. Guerrero is a geological engineer with over 30 years experience in mining and mineral exploration throughout South and Central America, and was previously Director of Explorations for the Hochschild Group. He is currently a principal partner of BO Consulting, a Peruvian engineering consultancy serving the mining sector.

FORTUNA TO RAISE UP TO $9.0-MILLION

Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. has arranged brokered and non-brokered private placements to raise a total of up to $9-million, by the issuance of up to 12 million units at a price of 75 cents per unit. Each unit will consist of one common share and one transferable warrant exercisable into one common share of the company for two years at a price of $1.00 in the first year and $1.25 in the second year. The offering is subject to all necessary regulatory approvals.

The brokered placement will be for eight million units and the non-brokered portion will be for four million units. The brokered placement will be on a best efforts basis through Pacific International Securities Inc. The agent has also been granted an overallotment option (greenshoe) for an additional 1.6 million units which, if exercised prior to closing, will provide the company with additional gross proceeds of $1.2-million.

The agent will receive a commission of 7 per cent of the proceeds of the brokered portion of the offering. The same commission will be paid to the agent in connection with any units issued or sold through the exercise of the greenshoe option. The agent may elect to receive the commission in cash or in units at a deemed price equal to the unit offering price.

Fortuna will also issue broker`s warrants to the agent equal to 12 per cent of the total number of units sold in the brokered portion of the placement, including those sold via the greenshoe option. The broker`s warrants will be exercisable for two years at a price of 80 cents per share.

The net proceeds of the placement will be used to make payments related to the acquisition of the Caylloma mine in Peru, for exploration and development of the property, and for general working capital purposes.

Fortuna Silver Mines (TSX-V: FVI) plans to begin an initial 3,000m core drilling program at the Animas vein of its newly acquired Caylloma silver mine in Peru in mid-August, the company announced.

In June, the Vancouver-based company announced it was acquiring the Caylloma mine from two Peruvian companies related to the Hochschild group in a deal worth US$7.6mn total.


The two Peruvian companies will also receive shares and warrants in Fortuna equal to 10.8% of the Canadian firm.


Caylloma has proven and probable reserves of 7Moz in silver reserves plus 14Moz of silver resources.


But Fortuna said this week it also plans carry out a "comprehensive drilling program" at the Animas vein, where 5,000m of drilling and 2,700m of underground development was completed from 2003-2004.


This exploration work is restricted to a narrow silver-only band within the greater vein width and returned average grades of 156-311g/t silver over 1-2m.


In some cases drilling indicated great widths of mineralization, from 3-7m of 62-217g/t silver, including 3-8% lead and 7-10% zinc, as well local zinc values of up to 16% over 1m. Underground cross cuts also exposed a parallel silver band grading up to 404g/t silver over 4m.


"The current mine plan calls for production to resume within 12 months, with first-year production coming from reserves on several high-grade silver-only veins, allowing time to develop stopes on the Animas vein and complete upgrades to the plant to handle polymetallic ore," Fortuna said.


Polymetallic ore would then be blended with high-grade silver ore starting in the second year of production.

Fortuna Starts 20,000m Drill Program at Caylloma

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 30, 2005) - Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. (TSX VENTURE:FVI) is pleased to announce that an extensive definition drilling program has commenced at the Company`s 100% owned Caylloma Silver Mine in southern Peru.

The drill program will focus initially on the silver-lead-zinc Animas vein, which is known to be 3800m long and up to 20m wide. At least 70 holes will be drilled from existing underground workings to test the extent of a wider mineralized envelope, indicated by previous work, which surrounds a higher grade core.

Previous resource modeling focused solely on a 1.2m wide high grade silver band, within a wider silver-lead-zinc envelope which was not considered in the existing NI 43-101 compliant resource estimate (7 million ounces silver in reserves plus 14 million ounces silver in resources). Historical data indicates that this wider mineralized envelope could be 3-7m wide, with values in the range of 2-7 opt silver, 3-8% lead and 7-12% zinc.

Fortuna President Peter Thiersch says that "the plan is to drill holes of no more than 20-25m, from the center of the vein outward, to test the extent of mineralization across the entire vein width. We are very excited about the potential of the Animas vein, and this style of short hole underground drilling will be a highly effective and relatively low cost method of building ounces on the project."

The infill drilling program is designed to increase economic tonnage on the Animas vein and determine optimum production rates. Exploration drilling from surface is also planned to test other high priority targets on the property. A budget of up to US$2 million has been approved for 2005-2006.

Fortuna management is convinced that significant additional silver-lead-zinc resources exist across much greater widths on the Animas vein than previously considered, and that this could allow for mechanization of underground operations which would lead to both increased production rates and reduced costs.

Fortuna is also pleased to announce the appointment of Jorge R. Ganoza Aicardi, B.Sc. Eng. as Vice-President, Operations of the Company. Mr. Ganoza Aicardi is a mining engineer with 30 years` experience in exploration and mine development in Latin America, including managing the start-up of three mid size underground mines in Peru and Panama.

Fortuna Silver Mines Inc.

Fortuna has recently acquired a past producing silver mine and is on track to re-start production at a level that would make the company a leading silver producer. The project has a complete processing facility in place that previously produced 2.6 million ounces per year. It has reserves adequate for several years of production. Most importantly, it has enormous exploration potential.

Fortuna has a strong management and technical team with considerable geological and mine operating experience.

The Caylloma mine is located in a rich silver belt in southern Peru. The property presently held by Fortuna has a 400 year production history and has yielded an estimated 250 million ounces of silver from the 30 veins that have so far been identified.

I have just returned from a tour of the property in the company of senior management and technical personnel. My observations from that tour lead me to concur with management that the project can readily be brought back into production and that there is potential to greatly expand upon the present reserve and resource position.

Fortuna is presently conducting the first comprehensive modern exploration of the property. In fact, little exploration has been conducted in the area, which is one of the major silver producing districts in Peru. The company is presently working toward expanding its already vast holdings to encompass additional prospective ground.

Fortuna plans to conduct a first phase exploration program over the next few months, that will focus on the potential within easy reach of the present workings and the mill. The initial assessment is that the operation could readily be boosted from the present production level of 600 tonnes per day to 1,000 tonnes per day with modest capital cost. At that level, the mine would produce a projected three million ounces per year of silver along with considerable amounts of lead and zinc. The project has potential to go well beyond that level, and the further upside potential will be assessed over the coming year.

Fortuna acquired the Caylloma mine from the Hochschild group, a privately-owned Peru-based mining and industrial company. During the period of low silver prices, the mine operated with little effort devoted to exploration or development.

The mine was closed in late-1982, with the silver price at a low level. The owners spent the next two years assessing the project. They focused on the Animas vein, which is located close to the mill. A rich band of silver, about one meter wide, is contained within a 20-meter wide zone that contains silver, zinc and lead mineralization.

The exploration effort consisted primarily of developing a drift (a tunnel that follows a vein) for 1.8 kilometers along the Animas vein. The drift tracked the high-grade silver band. Two other shorter drifts were developed on higher levels.

From my trek along the drift, it was evident that the high grade silver band is not continuous, as it pinches and swells and splits off into a number of splays within the broader mineralized zone.

Hochschild had cut a number of crosscuts (tunnels perpendicular to the vein) that extended through the broader mineralized zone. Samples were taken from the crosscuts, but the emphasis of their program was on silver even though the broader zone contains substantial zinc values.

Hochschild had a modern milling complex that recovered a lead concentrate that contained the silver. The mill does not have the capability to handle zinc and therefore the zinc values were not included in the reserve and resource calculations. Only the narrow silver band was considered.

The Hochschild data was used to prepare a 43-101 compliant reserve and resource estimate, as follows:


Proven and probable reserves: 776,000 tonnes containing 7.1 million ounces of silver (9.2 oz/ton, with 0.55 g/t gold, 1.8% lead, 2.9% zinc).
Inferred resource: 1.1 tonnes containing 14.2 million ounces of silver (12.4 oz/ton, with 0.52 g/t gold, 2.3% lead, 3.6% zinc).
A re-assessment of the Hochschild data and further sampling suggests that the entire 20-meter-wide mineralized zone carries potentially ore grade values. While the silver grade is lower in the broader zone, higher base metal credits provide a comparable value per ton.

After their exploration program, the private company faced the dilemma of whether to continue spending money exploring and developing primary silver veins, or to invest further capital in order to adapt the mill to handle the Animas ore with the higher zinc grade.

The situation was ideal for Fortuna, which had spent a couple of years looking for producing or advanced-stage silver projects in Peru. Fortuna is headed by Simon Ridgway, an explorationist with an impressive track record, having headed two companies that were sold to larger companies after important discoveries.

The geological team includes two people who played important roles in earlier discoveries while working with Simon. One of those geologists is from Peru and returned to that mineral-rich country after the political situation improved.

When the Fortuna team approached Hochschild the private company was faced with spending further money at Caylloma before it could bring the mine back to production. Since they were also developing a mining operation in Argentina, the alternative of receiving cash for Caylloma was appealing. The deal requires Fortuna to pay $2.95 million before year-end and a further $4.5 million in mid-2006. Hochschild will also receive shares providing them 10.8% of the equity of the company.

Fortuna has already begun an extensive drilling program. The initial focus will be drilling within the Animas vein. A small core rig is presently drilling from within the tunnel to collect samples across the full width of the mineralized zone. That will be a very efficient drilling program as nearly the entire length of the hole will be within the mineralized zone.

If the infill drilling program produces results in line with the values from the crosscuts, Fortuna anticipates expanding the mill to 1,000 tonnes per day and upgrading it to recover the zinc.

They would mine the full extent of the Animas vein using mechanized underground mining techniques. There are already three levels established within Animas and therefore the company expects to be able to produce 800 tonnes per day from that vein.

The mechanized mining and the higher mill throughput would substantially lower the unit operating cost. Mill feed would be supplemented with higher grade silver ore from the smaller high-grade silver veins on the property.

A long tunnel was developed that crosses several of the principal veins. Ore near the crosscuts has been mined out, but there remains kilometers of untested potential along those veins. Some of that material has been quantified by underground development and by drilling, but the bulk of the known extent of the veins remains untested.

I examined some of those veins on surface and from underground. Typically, the veins carry only low values at surface, due to leaching of the metals by surface weathering. Drilling has established the presence of silver-lead-zinc mineralization on the veins, but further drilling and underground development is necessary to quantify the extent of the mineralization.

In addition to the known vein system near the mill, there is enormous exploration potential in the immediate area. For example, all of the previous mining and exploration has been conducted along the eastern side of the valley. Geological evidence demonstrates that the veins continue across the valley, although little work has been done to sample the veins below surface.

There are other silver mining operations and past producers in the district. The company is presently evaluating the potential of other prospects.

In summary, Fortuna will spend the next few months conducting a first pass exploration effort. As that program unfolds, they anticipate beginning work on expanding and refurbishing the mill. Within 12 months, the company anticipates being in operation, and then ramping up to full production over the following several months.

Simultaneously, the company will be evaluating other prospects within the district. That effort could lead to a further expansion of the present milling facility or the establishment of a second operation. The company has very strong connections in the Peruvian mining community, putting them in an excellent position to acquire additional projects in the country.

The company is in the process of raising C$10 million, which would fund the next payment due to the vendors and finance the exploration and mill refurbishment.

The Fortuna story is very new and so far is largely unknown. I expect the share price to advance over the coming months as the company becomes better known. Favorable exploration results and progress toward the start of production should add considerable value.

I`ve just returned to the aftermath of hurricane Katrina in Miami after two weeks of solid travel and visits to two of the most incredible junior mining stories I have come across. I have recounted my visit to Greenland and Baffin Island in a piece posted on Sept 6 and now it`s time to tell the tale of a 400-year old silver mine which may require investors to accept an entirely new business model.
Seeing opportunity, Simon Ridgway, President of Radius Gold, wanted to get into the silver business. He assigned Jorge Ganoza, a Peruvian mining engineer, the task of finding a suitable silver mining project in Peru, well known for massive silver deposits. Based on my trip to the property, the year-long search for silver has paid off in spades.
Jorge Ganoza found a 400-year-old silver district complete with 21 million ounces of resources, a 700 ton per day mill, 30 distinct silver veins and a whole load of blue sky potential in the Caylloma silver district high in the Andes, 245 KM northeast of Arequipa. Over the past 400 or so years, the district has produced about 250 million ounces of silver. About 100 years ago, a German family named Hochschild began to consolidate the entire district and by 1983 had the district under their sole ownership.
Here`s where silver investors need to begin to think differently. Traditionally in Vancouver mining circles, a mining company starts a mine or takes over a mine, does a complete scientific exploration program and mines out the deposit only to move on to the next deposit. But how do you do that with a 400 year-old district which may well have another 400 years of production? The Romans and Spanish never drilled. They found a vein or two and drifted on those veins until they ran out of ore. They were long term oriented and looked at mining assets as having hundreds of years of mining potential. More importantly, they didn`t explore. In 400 years, they hadn`t needed to explore. There were silver veins all over the place.
5,000 year lows for silver finally bit them on the butt and in 2003 the Hochschild Group stopped mining at Caylloma after producing 2.6 million ounces in 2002. They paused to regroup and for the first time in the history of the district began to do a modern job of exploration. Between 2003 and 2005 they spent about $2 million dollars to add 7 million ounces of reserves and 14 million ounces of resources.
Ridgway`s timing couldn`t have been any better and months of discussions between the Hochschild Group and Fortuna resulted in the purchase of the Caylloma district for $7.55 million dollars US and issuance of shares totaling 10.8% of the fully diluted shares of Fortuna Silver, the shell Simon rolled the deal into. At the end of the day it means that Fortuna was buying silver for $.35 and ounce and got $10 million dollars worth of mill/equipment and another, perhaps $15 million dollars worth of infrastructure thrown in for free. The Hochschild Group gets a nice cash infusion and retains a substantial piece of the action via the shares.
The Caylloma district consists of a valley running roughly north/south at an elevation between about 15,000 and 16,000 feet. The mill and camp are located on the valley floor and all of the mining/exploration to date has taken place on the eastern slopes of the valley. To say the district has been barely scratched is to understate the obvious. All of the exploration has taken back over the past two years and you can trace the vertical silver structures visually on the western slope of the valley. There has been no exploration of the western side of the valley.
Many years ago, after I got out of the Marine Corps, I worked for Ross Perot at EDS for 18 months. He was a strange duck but he had some good ideas. One of his favorite sayings was that you should burn down your business every year. In other words, you should reinvent your company on a regular basis if you wanted to compete.
It took $4 silver for the Hochschild Group to consider reinventing themselves. They did an excellent job of exploration and added ounces for a tiny $.06 an ounce. But they didn`t follow through. The Animas vein, source of 60% of the additional reserves and resources consists of a 1.2 meter high grade silver core with 5-10 opt. The Hochschild Group drifted on the narrow high grade silver band at the center of the Animas vein. But surrounding the high grade core is a lower grade silver (2-7 ounce silver) mixed with both lead and zinc ore. Since zinc in the silver/lead concentrate actually reduces the value of the cons, Hochschild didn`t count the silver/lead/zinc as part of the resource since they didn`t want to make any more investment in the mill.
By spending about $700,000 Fortuna can add a zinc flotation circuit and mine all of the up to 20 meter width of the Animas vein. They estimate the ore body as being three to seven meters with values of two to seven ounces of silver, 3% to 8% lead and 7% to 12% zinc. They also intend to increase the capacity of the mill from 700 tons to 1000 tons per day. By increasing the width of the vein mined, it`s possible they can move to larger equipment and reduce the cost of mining.
Fortuna has just announced a $2 million dollar 20,000 meter drilling, exploration program with an interesting twist. They are at the center of the Animas vein drilling outward. So while most companies drill more or less blind in the hope of finding ore, Fortuna is in ore and drilling only until they hit the barren hanging wall or footwall. Their exploration expenses and cost of finding an ounce of silver will be a fraction of what Hochschild spent.
With Jorge Ganoza Jr in firm control of the Peru side of the company, along with his father Jorge Ganoza Sr, another long time mining engineer, Ridgway appointed Peter Thiersch as President of Fortuna Silver Mines. The first task of management was to try to define their business model. Initially they wanted to accelerate getting the mill back into production to get cash flowing. But the financial gnomes of Vancouver told them no one would take a silver company with only 21 million ounces of silver seriously and suggested they add ounces first.
Presently they are saying the mill will be back in production between 12 and 18 months from now. They could accelerate that if they really wanted to. They are working hard at getting the industry to recognize a new business model, that of a profitable silver/lead/zinc mine with a very large resource base potential.
Their model resembles that of Endeavour Silver and First Majestic Silver but my belief is that Fortuna will be much larger than either of those Mexican based companies. They pretty much can add ounces at will. They have set out a goal to double or triple the current resource with the current $2 million dollar program and it seems achievable. By producing lead and zinc and applying that cash flow against the cost of production of silver, they believe they can produce 6 million ounces in silver equivalents, per year, for between $3 and $4 an ounce.
Silver is a strange commodity followed by some of the worst writing and nonsensical logic in the precious metals business. First of all, silver is not a monetary metal, it is a commodity metal. I believe we will one day go back to a gold standard where silver will find a most important role as a monetary metal but for now it`s a commodity metal and price is determined by supply and demand, not some mysterious conspiracy. The simple reason the POS got so low was that it used to be a monetary metal and there were uncounted billions of ounces of silver all over the world hitting the melting pots for the last 40 years. You can argue it should be a monetary metal but until it is, silver will be cheap. Silver is too small a market to be worth manipulating, it would make more sense to pump and dump Microsoft.
One of my favorite urban myths is the "silver is rarer than gold" story. By ignoring the billions of ounces of production of silver between 1500 and 1810 from Peru and Mexico and Bolivia which ended up first in China and then in India, the silver scalliwags use a form of voodoo economics to "prove" there are more ounces of gold above ground than ounces of silver. Right! That`s why gold is $444 and silver is $7, because the 25,000 or so people who make their living trading gold and silver don`t know which one is most valuable.
Silver should be a monetary metal and it may be a monetary metal one day but it is not today. It has thousands of valuable uses as a commodity metal and more are being found every day but don`t look for silver to hit $100 an ounce while everything else stands still. It ain`t gonna happen.
That said, there are a number of efficient small silver producers coming on line who expect to add an entirely new concept to silver mining, that of producing silver at a profit. I know it`s an unusual concept and will be met with considerable resistance but think of it, mining at a profit. What a unique idea.
Even $7 silver has been a high enough price to start a lot of operations. I can think of Endeavour Silver, First Majestic and Palmarejo, who all have nice deposits in Mexico. Mag Silver has an important JV with Penoles and it`s simply fiction to say or believe no one is ever going to produce silver again. We have gone through a 50 year period where there was a surplus of silver and the price reflected it. Silver miners are starting to respond to an increase in the POS. Supply and demand really does work the way the textbooks suggest they should.
Fortuna is setting itself up to be a leader in the silver business. It will be easy, in silver mining there simply hasn`t been much leadership. Management expects to continue an aggressive program of expansion both internally by adding ounces of resources with ounces of production and externally through acquisition.
One aspect which few onlookers will understand immediately but will become more important over time is in the age of the management. Fortuna`s President, Peter Thiersch is only 44 and their head in Peru, Jorge Ganoza Jr is only 35. There is a lost generation in mining. No one has been coming into the mining business for the last 20 years for lack of opportunity. And the current generation of mining leadership is in their 60s and beyond. There are but a handful of mining executives in their 30s and 40s and one day soon the industry will be turned over to them because all of us old farts will have kicked the bucket. The young guys are going to get a lot of opportunity if for no other reason than there aren`t that many of them around.
Fortuna has been an advertiser for a couple of months. Actually they only did the deal with Hochschild in June and hit the ground running. The stock levitated between $.70 and $.80 for a couple of months only to get kicked into gear when Lawrence Roulston released his piece on the company last week. We like the company enough that we participated in the recent $.75 private placement. This piece is not paid for by Fortuna and they played no part in writing it other than simply double checking my facts.
I really like the concept, I love the project and management. The silver portion of the precious metals business has a big void where leadership should be and in my opinion, Fortuna is in a unique position to fill that void. I`d like to see leadership in silver, it`s a commodity worth investing in.

Silver`s as good as gold

Short supplies set to lift prices as high as $50

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- After suffering from a huge supply deficit for more than a decade, silver may be primed for a big rally.

The financial market has simply put too small a price on the much sought-after white metal that`s often seen as a sidekick to gold.

Silver, which is used in a wide variety of applications in several industries, including the electronic, jewelry and photographic sectors, currently trades around $7 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

That`s a far cry from the peak level around $50 in the 1980s, but that may change soon enough.

"No other commodity exists in such short supply as silver," said Ned Schmidt, editor of the Value View Gold Report, and "silver demand has exceeded production for 15 years now."

Indeed, the physical silver market operated in a deficit for the fifteenth-consecutive year in 2004, according to the CPM Group, a commodity research and consulting-services provider based in New York.

In its Silver Survey report released in late August, the group estimated that newly refined supplies of 750 million ounces fell short of industrial demand by 44.5 million in 2004. And the deficit, though not quite as high, will likely reach 31.4 million this year, with total supply estimated at 774.3 million.



The supply deficit could spell more gains for silver on the futures market, which posted a climb of around 40%, or $2 an ounce, over the past two years.

"As you analyze silver`s potential, the fundamentals become powerfully bullish," said Paul Mladjenovic, a New Jersey-based certified financial planner at PM Financial Services.

The "chronic silver shortage ... is becoming more acute," he said.

Demand factor

Overall demand is growing as silver is used in cell phones, military technology and a range of new applications in the healthcare sector and alternative energy technology, said Mladjenovic.

But John Person, president of National Futures Advisory Service argued that while production costs are rising, demand is actually flat.

The market saw total demand in 2004 at 794.5 million ounces, according to the CPM Group. For 2005, it`s estimated to be 805.7 million.

Person doesn`t believe the lows are in for the year, but December silver prices should find their support level close to $7 to $6.95 and that "should be the next buying opportunity investors can take advantage of," he said. December silver closed at near $7.08 an ounce on Thursday. See Metals Stocks.

Taking gold`s lead

Silver has been riding off the back of gold futures, which recently traded at their highest level since March.

And with gold expected to climb, don`t expect silver to stay behind.

Peter Grandich, editor of the Grandich Letter, believes that the poor man`s gold will continue to "play second fiddle to its namesake and while it can have its own moments in the sun, it will continue to need a higher gold price to help lift it up."

Gold`s move into the $450s will be an "important signal to investors that the metals are still alive and ready to march upward," said Schmidt.

Indeed, Philip Klapwijk, executive chairman at precious metals consultancy GFMS Ltd., expects gold to climb toward the $480 mark before the year is over because of rising investor demand for the metal.

"A similar phenomenon is likely in silver, a metal that historically tends to follow gold," he said.

It`s true that silver is an industrial metal and is affected by economic demand, but even during the depression of the 1970s, "silver tracked gold because the Fed was creating `money` -- actually, banking system credit -- out of thin air," said John Stafford, editor of Stafford`s Investment Strategy Letter.

"More `money` and credit was created `out of thin air` by the Fed and world central banks in the single decade of the 1970s than the entire cumulative total in all the world`s previous history," he said, citing an academic study done in the early 1980s.

So it`s no wonder that silver went to $50 from $1.29 an ounce, and gold to $850 from $35 in early 1980.

And in the framework of a rising gold price, silver is actually the "coiled spring," Schmidt said.

Traders "will move to silver for the unrealized opportunity it represents," he said, noting that the silver market simply "cannot take incremental demand without its price being moved materially higher."

"The developments with gold`s price will spill over into this market," he said.

Remember also that "silver is a much smaller market than gold, and speculators can usually get a bigger bang for their buck in more volatile silver than in the larger and deeper gold market," said Klapwijk.

Price outlook

Against this backdrop, there`s no denying that silver will end the year -- in the very least -- above the $7 mark.

The key levels for silver to watch are $7.25 and $7.50, Schmidt said. "As they are taken out, silver will move on to $9 this fall."

Klapwijk would only go as far to say that "another spike above the $7.50 mark is very likely before year-end."

Stafford sees prices reaching $8 or more this year and maybe even trading in the $12 to $15 range in five years.

Given silver`s growing uses, Mladjenovic expects prices to see a "very strong upward movement" during 2006 to 2008, with silver having a "great" chance to top its recent April 2004 high of $8.50 by the end of 2005 or early 2006.

In fact, it should be trading in the $8 to $10 range in the fourth quarter of this year, or no later than the first quarter of 2006, he said.

And "realistically, I expect silver it to hit $50 in 2-5 years," Mladjenovic said.

Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. has closed the brokered private placement previously announced in Stockwatch Aug. 3, 2005. Pacific International Securities Inc. acted as agent for this offering. The agent exercised its overallotment option in full, and accordingly, the company sold 9.6 million units at a price of 75 cents per unit to raise gross proceeds of $7.2-million. Each unit consists of one common share and one common share purchase warrant. Each warrant entitles the holder to purchase one additional common share of the company for two years, exercisable at $1 in the first year and $1.25 in the second year.

The company paid the agent a cash fee equal to 7 per cent of the subscription proceeds realized from the sale of the units by the agent. The company also issued a total of 1,152,000 agent`s options, which is equal to 12 per cent of the number of units sold. Each agent`s option entitles the holder to purchase one common share of the company at a price of 80 cents for two years.

All of the above securities have a four-month hold period from the date of issuance, expiring on Jan. 27, 2006.

Arequipa, Peru -- Shine a headlamp into almost any one of the crosscuts that intersect the Caylloma project`s Animas vein and the structure`s potential to be a company maker shines back.
A corresponding exploration drift, one of two driven into Animas by the project`s previous owners, chases Caylloma`s traditional target: a thin, high-grade ribbon of silver that snakes its way through the surrounding andesite.
But the crosscuts expose the upside: polymetallic mineralization that has yet to be systematically explored. Patches of zinc, lead and silver sulphide -- not included in the current reserve calculation -- pepper the crosscut walls with impressive frequency.
Animas is one of 30 mineralized veins at the Caylloma silver project in southern Peru, a 400-year-old silver producer recently sold to Fortuna Silver Mines (FVI-V by the Hochschild Group, a private Peruvian mining company, for US$7.55 million plus a 10.8% equity stake. The fully-permitted mine includes a 600-tonne-per-day mill, a 350-man camp and an 80-sq.-km mining concession.
Narrow, high-grade silver veins (10-15 oz. per ton) were the traditional focus of exploration and development at Caylloma, so when Hochschild encountered polymetallic mineralization grading 2-7 oz. silver, 7-12% zinc and 3-8% lead during a final exploration drive, the family-owned venture decided to divest.
Fortuna, meanwhile, under the direction of financier Simon Ridgway, was seeking a silver story that could emulate Pan American Silver`s (PAA-T, PAAS-Q) strategy in the Cerro de Pasco district of central Peru, where the Vancouver-based silver producer has purchased and refurbished two historic silver-lead-zinc mines and acquired several silver stockpiles.
Caylloma, located in the centre of a silver mining district 225 km northwest of Arequipa, boasts a National Instrument 43-101 compliant silver reserve of 7 million oz. and a resource of 14 million oz. It is a classic low-sulphidation deposit hosted by Miocene volcanics.
The veins on the property are related to a district-wide caldera and dome setting. They have a 1-4 km strike length and are up to 20 metres wide. Mineralization comes in two forms: narrow, silver-only traditional veins and wider base-metal-rich polymetallic veins such as Animas. Both types consist of banded quartz, rhodonite and calcite.
In 2003, Hochschild placed the mine on care and maintenance after it had produced more than 250 million oz. silver, including 2.6 million oz. in 2002.
If Fortuna restarts the operation at a rate of 600 tonnes per day, annual production would be 2 million oz. silver, 8,000 tonnes of zinc and 5,000 tonnes of lead at an estimated cash cost of US$4.00 per oz. silver, net of byproduct credits.
But the junior is planning to increase production to at least 1,000 tonnes per day by upgrading the mill and adding a new zinc circuit. The 20-metre-wide Animas vein would contribute the bulk of the ore, while traditional high-grade silver veins would provide the sweetener.
"Animas will give us the tonnage, but the traditional veins will give us the grade," explains Jorge Ganoza Durant, vice-president of business development for Fortuna. "We are lucky because the metallurgy is straightforward. We can easily blend the polymetallic ore with the traditional ore."
Production rates could further increase with ongoing exploration, mechanization and more acquisitions in the region, provided Fortuna can come up with the US$14 million-plus needed to pay Hochschild, upgrade the mill and finance exploration, underground development, equipment purchases and acquisitions.
"We are following the Pan American model on this belt," says Ganoza Durant. "We`ve got the technical expertise on the ground and the financing expertise in Vancouver to do it."
Indeed, Ganoza Durant and his father Jorge Ganoza Aicardi, who will oversee production as vice-president of operations, are among the company`s most valuable assets. The father-son team is from a Peruvian family that has owned and operated mines in Latin America for four generations.
Jorge junior is a geological engineer whose last job was to spearhead expansion into Nicaragua for sister company Radius Gold (RDU-V, RDUFF-Q), while Jorge senior, also an engineer, has 35 years experience in mining and mine management.
Their expertise and local connections represent a significant part of the upside for Fortuna. Other silver mines within trucking distance of Caylloma, many of which have been in private hands for decades, may be available as satellite operations or possibly stand-alone mines. Negotiations are currently under way to consolidate a 150-sq.-km land position.
Another advantage Caylloma has over some other mining camps in Peru is local support. The lack of agriculture in the arid, high-elevation (4,000-5,000 metres above sea level) environment helps prevent the kind of land-use conflicts that have erupted in other parts of the country. The nearest community, though desperately poor, is a traditional mining town that has initiated a training program for youth that is sponsored by the local mines.
Back in Vancouver, a team led by President Peter Thiersch is raising the financing necessary to get Caylloma back on track. Fortuna expects to raise a total of up to $9 million this fall by issuing 12 million units at a price of 75¢ per unit. Each unit will consist of one share and one warrant to purchase an additional share at $1.00-1.25. At the time of writing, Fortuna shares were trading at about $1.00.
When The Northern Miner visited the project at the end of August, underground drilling had just commenced in the thin air of the Animas exploration drift, cut into a mountain at 4,650 metres above sea level. The program will poke 70 short holes into the 3,800-metre-long by 20-metre-wide vein to test the extent of the polymetallic envelope surrounding the high-grade silver core.
"Within twelve months we will make a decision about what rate of production we can support," says Ganoza Durant. "That will depend on the size of Animas."
Fortuna will also allocate part of its US$2-million exploration budget to test surface targets, including known high-grade ore shoots and silver veins on the other side of the valley that have never been explored.
The company will spend another US$1.1 million to upgrade the plant. Other capital investments include US$4.1 million for mine development, infrastructure and equipment, US$1 million for working capital and US$1.3 million for contingencies and other costs, for a total of US$7.5 million, just under half of which will be spent in the first year.
If Fortuna can achieve a production target of 210,000 tonnes of ore annually, the company anticipates net revenues of US$13 million per year and an after-tax profit of US$4 million.
But those estimates will seem modest if the Animas vein proves to be as consistent and extensive as it appears and if negotiations to acquire other deposits in the region are successful.

Bei Fully diluted 45,202,882 shares laut investors info von Fortuna Silver Mines vom 05.10.2005 komme ich aber auf eine 4* höhere MK.
Ist die Bewertung der Silberresourcen, die nur im Fels darauf warten "eingesammelt" zu werden also 4mal teurer,
als wir bilang angenommen haben?

Die Frage ist doch nur, wann Fortuna in Produktion gehen kann und was sie dann an Silberresourcen und -reserven haben. Dazu kommt der Silberpreis, der dann meiner Meinung nach näher an 10 als an 7 Dollar notiert.

Drüben jedenfalls ist die Verkausbereitschaft eher gering und die Aktie konnte rund 75% seit meinem ersten Call gewinnen. Man sollte bei Fortuna auf eine signifikante Erweiterung der Resourcenbasis vorbereitet sein. Drillings laufen und Ergebnisse sind fällig.

Aber selber schuld, wenn man nicht warten kann mit dem Shorten! Vom Shorten halte ich eh nichts, ich finde es unmoralisch. Ganz schlimm ist das naked shorting. Es wäre doch viel einfacher gewesen, die erhaltenen Stücke mit Gewinn zu verkaufen und fertig!

Es fällt auf, dass meist je 5.000 Stück im bid und im ask stehen. Das deutet auf einen Makler hin, bzw. vielleicht sogar auf einen Computer, der die Taxe stellt und die Aktien liefert.

Mit anderen Worten, leer verkauft. Diese Aktien werden dann in Canada wieder gekauft. Da dort aber der Kurs schon 1,49/1,50 steht, und sowieso schon eine Shortposition eingedeckt werden muss, könnte es ziemlich lustig werden. Wenn nicht viel verkauft wird, stehen wir ratz-fatz über 2 CAD. Nur nicht heute, heute ist thanks-giving...

Wir so in "uncharted territory".

Aber sagen wir mal so:


-Es gibt kaum jemanden, der verkauft. Jede Konsolidierung verlief seitwärts.

-Es gibt nicht viele Umsätze. Schon 20.000-30.000 Stück lassen regelmässig den kurs explodieren.

-Es gibt eine riesen Shortposition, die eingedeckt werden muss.

-Der Silberpreis geht gerade durch die Decke.

-Wir haben ein einen Tag altes Kaufsignal.


Geht es eigentlich noch besser?!

bei fortuna passt zur zeit wirklich alles zusammen !
riesiges potenzial hat sie aber auch abseits dieser ganzen netten nebeneffekte .

was den shortie betrifft:
hauptsache wir bekommen keine verkäufer die mit ein paar prozentchen zufrieden sind - da gibts ja so einige die nach 20 , 30 oder 40 prozentchen das handtuch schmeissen !
das würde uns zwar nicht aufhalten , aber so machts doch im mmt viel mehr spass !
wer hier etwas geduld hat der wird sich bald über weit mehr als 40 % freuen

Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. has closed the second tranche of its private placement previously reported in Stockwatch on Aug. 3, 2005, raising an additional $3.0-million. In total, the placement raised $10.2-million and was oversubscribed by $1.2-million.

In the second tranche, the company sold four million units via a non-brokered private placement at a price of 75 cents per unit to raise gross proceeds of $3.0-million. Each unit consists of one common share and one warrant entitling the holder to purchase one additional common share of the company at $1.00 in the first year and $1.25 in the second year. In connection with certain of the subscriptions received, the company paid finders` fees totalling $153,587 cash and warrants to purchase up to 231,056 shares exercisable at 80 cents per share for two years.

All of the above securities have a four-month hold period from the date of issuance, expiring on Feb. 8, 2006.

The net proceeds of the placement will be used to make payments related to the acquisition of the Caylloma mine in Peru, for exploration and development of the property, and for general working capital purposes.

Interessant daran ist allerdings, dass sie 1,2mio Dollar mehr hätten unterbringen können und das schon bei einer Gesamtsumme von 10,2mio.

Mein Fokus liegt auf den baldigen Bohrergebnissen. Das wird auf jeden Fall eine wichtige Meldung, egal was sie gefunden haben oder nicht.

Meine Einschätzung: Seitwärts zwischen 1,20 und 1,70 bis es soweit ist. Volatilität ist solchen Stocks in die Wiege gelegt!

Letzten Monat initiierte RBC Capital Markets das Covering einer kleinen Gruppe von Silberunternehmen und jungen Silberexplorationsunternehmen. Curran und Dolan erklärten, dass sie für Silber „kurzfristig sehr bullish gestimmt sind“. Die beiden Experten prognostizieren für dieses Jahr einen Durchschnittspreis von 7 US$ pro Unze und 7,25 US$ im nächsten Jahr. Während RBC bezüglich der Fundamentaldaten von Silber für die nächsten Jahre äußerst bullish ist, gehen sie zunächst davon aus, dass für Preise über 8 US$/Unze eine „neue und signifikante Nachfrage notwendig ist“. „Wir sehen die Möglichkeit für eine neue Stärke der Silberpreise, da die bereits geförderten Lagerbestände seit über einem Jahrzehnt deutlich abnehmen und der Silberabbau in Minen mit der steigenden Nachfrage kaum mehr mithalten kann.“ RBC weist auch auf neue Verwendungszwecke hin, sowie eine Erholung der Schmuckindustrie und die mögliche Zulassung von Silber ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds= börsennotierter Fonds) durch die SEC.

Die Barclays Bank beantragte bei der SEC die Zulassung eines neuen Exchange Traded Funds, den IShares Silver Trust. Jedes ETF würde 10 Unzen Silber repräsentieren, die dann durch Silberbarren hinterlegt wären. Käufe und Verkäufe von Silber von und an den Fonds würden in Einheiten von 500.000 Unzen oder 50.000 Aktien erfolgen, so Currie und Dolan. Das Silber ETF ähnelt damit dem bereits bestehenden Gold ETF, dass sich auf den Weltmärkten erfolgreich als Investment durchsetzen konnte. Wenn das Silber ETF zugelassen wird, so würde sich die Liquidität bei Silberinvestments, die deutlich volatiler sind als Gold, deutlich erhöhen.

Die Ideen für den Einsatz dieses Chips sind zahlreich: Eintrittskarten, Reisetickets, Banknoten, Ausweispapiere bis zur Überwachung von Tierherden. In fünf bis zehn Jahren dürfte die neue Technik den traditionellen Barcode ersetzt haben.

Die Silbernachfrage könnte demnach in Zukunft kräftig steigen: Würden alle Waren des Grünen Punktes mit einem RFID-Chip versehen, stiege allein der deutsche Silberverbrauch um 70 Prozent.

Zukunftsmusik ist bisher auch noch der Einsatz von silberverstärkten Stromleitungen. Eine silberverstärkte Stromleitung kann 140 mal mehr Energie (annähernd ohne Energieverlust) über längere Strecken transportieren als ein herkömmliches Kupferkabel.

Zudem ist das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis deutlich günstiger als bei herkömmlichem Kupferdraht. Mit einer baldigen kommerziellen Nutzung darf also gerechnet werden.

Ein entsprechendes Patent wurde im vergangenen Jahr vom US-Unternehmen AMSC angemeldet. Silberverstärkte Stromleitungen könnten die Silbernachfrage um knapp sechs Prozent oder 50 Mio. Unzen ankurbeln, meinen die Experten.

Weitere 40 Mio. Unzen könnten spezielle Mikrofiches für die Langzeitspeicherung von Datenbeständen bringen. Durch den hohen Silbergehalt sind sie nahezu unzerstörbar und haben eine garantierte Lebensdauer von über 100 Jahren.



Weitere Anwendungen ergeben sich aus der bakterientötenden Wirkung von Silber. Schon die Phönizier legten Silbermünzen in ihre Amphoren und hielten damit ihr Trinkwasser keimfrei.

Heute wird nicht nur der Einsatz bei der Trinkwasser-Abfüllung getestet, sondern auch entsprechender Entkeimungssysteme in Kühl- und Gefrierschränken.



Auch im Gesundheitsbereich vertraut man auf das Edelmetall: Krankenhäuser verwenden silberhaltige Desinfektionslösungen. Silberhaltige Verbandsmaterialien verbessern die Wundheilung.

Ausbaufähig ist der Einsatz bei Textilien. Eingebettete Silberionen sorgen für Geruchshemmung und halten den Körper warm.



Silber-Socken wurden von Silvertex schon 2003 zum Patent angemeldet. Silvertex-Kleidung bietet Unternehmensangaben zufolge auch 99-prozentigen Schutz vor elektromagnetischer Strahlung oder so genanntem Elektro-Smog.

Der stärkste Nachfrageanstieg wird beim Außen- und Innenraumschutz von Gebäuden erwartet. Mittels Silberionen-Lösung lässt sich Holz umweltfreundlich und kostengünstig konservieren.



Silber bietet auch einen verbesserten Schutz gegen Pilzbefall. Setzt sich der Holzschutz mittels Silber durch, erwarten Experten einen jährlichen Verbrauchsanstieg um 80 Mio. Unzen.

Wenn die genannten Anwendungen realisiert werden, wird sich der Nachfragedruck aufbauen. Das verspricht eine gute Wertentwicklung. Denn, die Minenproduktion von Silber ist in den vergangenen Jahren kaum ausgeweitet worden und die Möglichkeiten, die Produktion schnell zu erhöhen, sind begrenzt.

Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. has released new details regarding its wholly owned Caylloma silver mine in southern Peru. Highlights of recent work include:


two new oreshoots identified from historic drill data, including 2.55 metres grading 597 grams per tonne silver;
chip sampling of Animas returns 3.6 metres grading 118 grams per tonne silver, 9.9 per cent zinc and 4.2 per cent lead;
underground drilling and mapping of the Animas vein are on schedule;
underground development of San Pedro vein to start in December; and
a new resource calculation to start in December, 2005.

New oreshoots

Two new mineralized zones have been identified, based on historical drill data. One zone is predominantly silver rich and the other contains high zinc and lead grades in addition to the silver. Drill results from the two zones were not included in the original National Instrument 43-101 resource estimate and they have potential to add to the existing seven-million-ounce silver reserve and 14-million-ounce silver inferred resource reported in that estimate.

The two zones are the San Cristobal parallel silver oreshoot and the Animas vein silver/zinc/lead zone. The results, tabulated below, demonstrate the excellent potential to add to the resource at Caylloma. True thickness are approximately 80 per cent of reported intervals.

Drill hole AS-25-03 represents the deepest intercept on the central portion of the Animas vein, at 350 metres of depth. This hole intersected a broader zone of silver/lead/zinc mineralization than anticipated, which the company believes will be amenable to low-cost mechanized underground mining.

Both of the mineralized shoots above are open along strike and to depth, and their limits have yet to be defined. The shoots are located well within the short-term mine plan area at Caylloma and are easily accessible. A map showing the location of the historic holes and the chip sampling results reported below will be available shortly on the Fortuna website.

New chip sampling results have also been returned from a number of underground crosscuts that cut the Animas vein over about a 200-metre strike length. The chip samples test part of a larger 600-metre-long mineralized zone that is about to be drilled from underground.

With silver and zinc prices currently testing their five-year highs, these new results further illustrate the excellent upside potential on the Animas vein and reinforce management`s belief that substantial additional silver and base-metal resources will be added to the Caylloma resource base. Underground exploration drilling and development

The underground drilling program on the Animas vein is proceeding on schedule. Underground mapping has been completed on two levels and definition drilling is under way with two electric drills. Approximately 1,430 metres of BQ drilling has been completed to date, and initial results are expected to be released later in the month. Once full results are received, a new resource model will be constructed for the Animas vein.

At San Pedro, 130 metres of underground development will be started in December to intersect a high-grade silver oreshoot identified by previous drilling. A National Instrument 43-101 inferred resource of 67,500 tonnes at 493 grams per tonne silver is located on this portion of the vein and the company believes there is significant potential to increase the size of this resource block. The development should intersect the vein in roughly seven weeks.

Future work

In preparation for development and mining, the company expects to upgrade the existing National Instrument 43-101 resource with a new resource calculation, set to begin in December. This will incorporate a new deposit model and forthcoming results from drilling and underground sampling. Other planned work includes:


additional underground mapping, drilling and sampling on the Animas vein;
surface drilling to define high-grade targets on the main historically mined veins;
reinterpretation of existing data -- several known intercepts and mineralized zones were excluded from previous resource model and have potential to add to the resource; and
underground mapping and sampling of the San Cristobal, San Pedro and La Plata veins.

Mir scheint mein Geld derzeit bei WKN 867948 und A0F7BM

The new results, composited over a mineralized intercept that varies between 0.5 metre and 5.8 metres in true width, show a wider zone of silver-lead-zinc mineralization than was previously considered in the original NI-43-101 compliant resource estimate, which lends further support to management`s belief that additional work at Animas may have the potential to add significantly to the overall resource base at Caylloma.

All Fortuna samples are crushed and pulverized at the ACME Analytical Labs preparation facility in Lima, Peru, and are sent for assay to the ACME Analytical Labs facility in Vancouver. Fortuna has a quality control and quality assurance procedure in place that includes the insertion of blanks, duplicates and standards on a regular basis.

The underground drilling program on the Animas vein is proceeding on schedule. Underground mapping has been completed on two levels and definition drilling is continuing with two electric drills. Approximately 1,430 metres of BQ drilling has been completed to date, and initial results are expected to be released later in the month. Once full results are received, a new resource model will be constructed for the Animas vein.

At San Pedro, 130 metres of underground development will be started in December to intersect a high-grade silver zone identified by previous drilling. An NI-43-101 compliant inferred resource of 67,500 tonnes at 493 g/t Ag is located on this portion of the vein and the company believes there is significant potential to increase the size of this resource block. The development should intersect the vein in roughly seven weeks.

Future work

In preparation for development and mining, the company expects to upgrade the existing NI 43-101 resource with a new resource calculation set to begin in December. This will incorporate a new deposit model and forthcoming results from drilling and underground sampling. Other planned work includes:


additional underground mapping, drilling and sampling on the Animas vein;
surface drilling to define high-grade targets on the main historically mined veins;
reinterpretation of existing data;
several known intercepts and mineralized zones were excluded from previous resource model and have potential to add to the resource; and
underground mapping and sampling of the San Cristobal, San Pedro and La Plata veins.

CONTINUUM RESOURCES LTD. ANNOUNCES EARN-IN AGREEMENT WITH FORTUNA SILVER MINES, INC. AT THE SAN JOSE SILVER-GOLD DEPOSIT, OAXACA, MEXICO

Continuum Resources Ltd. has reached an agreement with Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. in which Fortuna can earn a 70-per-cent interest in Continuum`s 80-per-cent share of the San Jose silver/gold deposit located in Oaxaca, Mexico. The agreement, which is subject to exchange acceptance, requires Fortuna to spend $2-million in exploration over the next 24 months, primarily on diamond drilling, and includes a $1-million private placement into Continuum by Fortuna at a price of 20 cents per share. At the termination of the drill program, and based on a National Instrument 43-101 resource calculation, Fortuna will pay Continuum 50 U.S. cents for each ounce of silver or silver equivalent in the measured resource category and 35 U.S. cents for each ounce of silver or silver equivalent in the indicated resource category, corresponding to the interest of Fortuna in the deposit.

Exploration drilling and underground sampling by Continuum at San Jose, since 2004, have been focused on defining the dimensions and grade of one mineralized zone, or shoot, called the Trinidad zone. The Trinidad zone occupies approximately 400 metres of strike length along the epithermal vein system, which can be traced in outcrop on Continuum`s property for three kilometres. Surface geochemistry and historic mine workings indicate the potential for additional zones of silver/gold mineralization along the three-kilometre strike length of the epithermal system.

Recent underground channel sampling of the Bonanza vein on the newly excavated level No. 6 (150 metres in depth) within the Trinidad zone returned an average grade of 10.2 grams per tonne gold and 1,102 grams per tonne silver, over a minimum true width of 2.26 metres. The vein is underlain by a stockwork zone grading up to 6.52 grams per tonne gold and 482 grams per tonne silver over a true width of 14.8 metres.

An inferred resource estimate, which is compliant with National Instrument 43-101, was carried out on the Trinidad zone by Independent Mining Consultants (IMC) in Tucson, Ariz. This estimate calculated an inferred resource of 15.8 million ounces of silver equivalent (Ag Eq) within 1.562 million tonnes grading 314 grams per tonne Ag Eq, at a 113-gram-per-tonne Ag Eq cut-off. At a cut-off grade of 170 grams per tonne Ag Eq, the inferred resource is 971,549 tonnes grading 424 grams per tonne Ag Eq, totalling 13.18 million ounces of silver equivalent. The resource was calculated using a gold price of $400 (U.S.) and a silver price of $7.50 (U.S.). Table No. 1 outlines the inferred resource estimate and equivalent grade calculations.

Fortuna plans to drill test the entire strike length of the San Jose epithermal system, with the objective of defining additional mineralized zones and upgrading the Trinidad resource.

The earn-in agreement

Continuum has entered into an agreement with Minerales de Oaxaca to acquire up to an 80-per-cent interest in the San Jose property. Fortuna`s agreement with Continuum allows it to earn up to a 70-per-cent interest in Continuum`s 80-per-cent interest, or a 56-per-cent overall interest in the San Jose project.

Fortuna also has the right to earn a 60-per-cent interest in Continuum`s interest in the Taviche silver project, located approximately 14 kilometres east of the San Jose deposit, and other silver projects of Continuum in Oaxaca. The properties that cover the Taviche district contain several past-producing underground silver mines, very similar in geologic setting to San Jose.

To earn its interest, Fortuna will spend $2-million on drilling at San Jose on or before Dec. 1, 2007. A minimum of $1-million will be spent on or before Aug. 1, 2006. When Fortuna has completed drilling at San Jose, it will prepare an National Instrument 43-101 resource calculation.

Within 30 days of completion of a mutually acceptable resource calculation, Fortuna will pay Continuum an amount equal to 56 per cent of the resource at a price of 50 U.S. cents for each ounce of silver or silver equivalent in the measured resource category and 35 U.S. cents for each ounce of silver or silver equivalent in the indicated resource category.

Fortuna will also subscribe for a private placement of five million shares of Continuum at a price of 20 cents per share for proceeds of $1-million. Continuum shall use the proceeds from the private placement to perform a minimum of $500,000 worth of exploration on the Taviche claim group, located outside of the San Jose property. Fortuna shall have the option to acquire a 60-per-cent interest in Continuum`s interest in other silver projects in Oaxaca in which Continuum has or acquires an interest by spending the greater of twice the amount expended by Continuum on that particular property and $500,000.

The San Jose property

The San Jose project is located in the Taviche silver/gold district, 43 kilometres south of the city of Oaxaca in the southern of Mexico. High-grade silver/gold mineralization is hosted by a system of epithermal quartz veins and hydrothermal breccias. The vein system is exposed for three kilometres on the surface, within Continuum`s property limits. Historically, only 800 metres of strike length, to a maximum depth of just 130 metres below the surface, have been exploited.

Underground mapping and sampling have revealed three north-south-striking zones of silver/gold mineralization in the vicinity of the Trinidad shaft which include, from east to west:


the Bonanza vein, which grades an average of 10.2 grams per tonne gold and 1,102 grams per tonne silver over a minimum width of 2.26 metres, along 40 metres of exposed strike length;
the footwall to the Bonanza vein, which has yielded 14.5 metres of true width grading 6.52 grams per tonne gold and 482 grams per tonne silver in a first crosscut and 17.1 metres of true width grading 3.8 grams per tonne gold and 449 grams per tonne silver in a second crosscut; and
the Fortuna vein, situated 40 metres west of the Bonanza vein, grading an average of 2.29 grams per tonne gold and 421 grams per tonne silver over a minimum true width of 2.37 metres, along a strike length of 66 metres.

Two exploration drill holes were completed in 2001 beneath the lowest mine workings and confirmed the depth potential of the orebody. One of the holes intersected, a 25.6-metre core interval grading 3.25 grams per tonne Au and 436 grams per tonne Ag, within which a 12.4-metre interval averaged 5.66 grams per tonne Au and 730 grams per tonne Ag. The second hole intersected 6.5 metres averaging 3.31 grams per tonne Au and 540 grams per tonne Ag.

Gold-equivalent inferred resource

In May, 2005, Continuum disclosed a National Instrument 43-101 inferred resource estimate for the Trinidad zone, the most northerly of the zones of silver/gold mineralization known to occur at San Jose. The resource estimate was calculated from underground channel sampling and diamond-drill results. The estimate is tabulated below for a range of cut-off values. At a cut-off of four grams per tonne Au equivalent (Au Eq), the zone contains an inferred resource estimated at 202,620 ounces Au Eq grading 9.02 grams per tonne Au Eq. A brief report, dated June 5, 2005, prepared by Independent Mining Consultants Inc. has been posted by Continuum on SEDAR.

The San Jose block-model mineralization is in the inferred class in accordance with National Instrument 43-101. The gold equivalent factor was based on the following assumptions:


price: gold $400 (U.S.) per ounce and silver $7.50 (U.S.) per ounce;
refining cost: gold $5 (U.S.) per ounce and silver 50 U.S cents per ounce;
recovery: gold 90 per cent and silver 90 per cent;
equivalent gold equals gold plus (silver multiplied by 0.0177); and
equivalent silver equals silver plus (gold multiplied by 56.5).

The data used for these calculations consisted of 13 diamond-drill holes totalling 2,124 metres with 844 gold and silver assays, coupled with chip-channel samples from level No. 5 and level No. 6 underground. The 13 drill holes (11 Continuum holes and two Pan American Silver holes) and 127 channel samples (all by Continuum) were composited to a length of two metres. Only assays having gold grades greater than 0.051 gram per tonne Au were included in the composite database used for the estimation procedures. Moderate dilution has been included into the vein model. A density value of 2.77 was assigned to the andesite host rock surrounding the veins, while the quartz veins have been assigned a density value of 2.64. An equivalent gold cut-off grade was used to tabulate the contained mineralization. This equivalent gold factor takes into account the refining cost and processing recovery as anticipated in any mining operations.

Preliminary metallurgical testwork

Preliminary metallurgical testwork was carried out on two composite samples of diamond-drill core from drill holes completed at San Jose by Continuum. The testwork was completed by metallurgical consultants Kappes, Cassiday & Associates from Reno, Nev. The two composite samples graded 4.56 and 8.26 grams per tonne gold, and 455 and 507 grams per tonne silver, respectively. The following tests were carried out:


gravity concentration;
flotation; and
flotation followed by cyanidation of the flotation-tailings fraction.

Gravity concentration testwork resulted in poor gold and silver concentrations of between 32 per cent and 39 per cent. Flotation testwork was conducted at two separate grind sizes, with the best results obtained at a grind size of 80 per cent passing 0.106 millimetres. The gold and silver flotation results were between 72 per cent and 74 per cent for both gold and silver in each sample. A high percentage of coarse gold, which tends not to float strongly, was considered as a possible reason for the modest flotation results. A further test, which will examine a gravity circuit ahead of flotation as a means of liberating free metal, was recommended by the consultant and will be carried out in the near future.

Very high recoveries were obtained by subjecting the tails from the flotation tests to cyanide leaching. Gold and silver extractions from the tails were greater than 90 per cent for gold and 64 per cent to 71 per cent for silver after 96 hours of leaching. The combined flotation with cyanide leaching tests resulted in an overall gold extraction of 97 per cent for gold and 97 per cent for silver.

The inferred resource estimate was calculated by Independent Mining Consultants under the supervision of John Marek, PE. Sample quality assurance and database management was supervised by Dr. Chris Osterman, PhD, registered geoscientist in Arizona. Dr. Lawrence Dick, PhD, PGeo, president of Continuum, is responsible for the accuracy of this news release. Geochemical samples were prepared by ALS Chemex in Guadalajuara, Mexico. Geochemical analyses were carried out by ALS Chemex of North Vancouver, B.C.

Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. (TSX VENTURE:FVI) ("Fortuna") is pleased to announce it has signed letters of intent to acquire 100% interest in five mineral concessions controlled by two private Peruvian companies, Minera Ares and Minera Condor. The concessions are located within ten kilometers of the Caylloma Silver Mine, and cover several silver-gold prospects and historic workings.

The first group of concessions, optioned from Minera Condor, totals 888 hectares in surface area and was explored during 2004 by Mauricio Hochschild & Cia (MHC). Mapping and trench sampling conducted by MHC outlined a low sulfidation vein system hosted by Tertiary volcanic rocks. This epithermal system is best represented by the Julia vein, which has returned trench samples grading up to 16.87 g/t Au and 64 gpt Ag over 2.31 meters. The vein has been traced over at least 500m in outcrop and is open along strike.

The second concession package, optioned from Minera Ares, totals 3,000 hectares in surface area, and is located around the historic Sukuytambo Silver-Gold Mine, which ceased operations in the early 80`s. The concessions cover a largely under-explored sequence of Tertiary volcanic rocks with multiple color anomalies, which are commonly associated with epithermal style alteration and mineralization.

Fortuna plans to mobilize a field crew to the area in early January. With the addition of these concessions to Fortuna`s portfolio, the company is moving towards its objective of consolidating a controlling position in one of the most productive silver-gold vein camps in Peru. Most importantly, these new concessions are located within trucking distance of the company`s Caylloma processing plant, and any exploration success on these properties could be quickly capitalized on by trucking ore to Caylloma.

Chip Samples

At total of 90 continuous chip samples were collected by MHC across the Julia vein, and prepared and analyzed at the MHC assay lab facilities at the Arcata Mine in southern Peru. MHC is an international mining company and all its laboratories operate to international Quality Assurance & Quality Control standards. The results reported here however should be considered historic in nature, have not been verified by a Qualified Person as defined by Canadian National Instrument 43-101, and should therefore not be relied upon.

Significant trench results are tabulated below and trench sample and concession location maps are available on the Fortuna website at www.fortunasilver.com.

Fortuna Acquires Additional Silver-Gold Prospects in the Caylloma

December 5, 2005: Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. (TSX-V : FVI; "Fortuna") is pleased to announce it has signed letters of intent to acquire 100% interest in five mineral concessions controlled by two private Peruvian companies, Minera Ares and Minera Condor. The concessions are located within ten kilometers of the Caylloma Silver Mine, and cover several silver-gold prospects and historic workings.

The first group of concessions, optioned from Minera Condor, totals 888 hectares in surface area and was explored during 2004 by Mauricio Hochschild & Cia (MHC). Mapping and trench sampling conducted by MHC outlined a low sulfidation vein system hosted by Tertiary volcanic rocks. This epithermal system is best represented by the Julia vein, which has returned trench samples grading up to 16.87 g/t Au and 64 gpt Ag over 2.31 meters. The vein has been traced over at least 500m in outcrop and is open along strike.

The second concession package, optioned from Minera Ares, totals 3,000 hectares in surface area, and is located around the historic Sukuytambo Silver-Gold Mine, which ceased operations in the early 80`s. The concessions cover a largely under-explored sequence of Tertiary volcanic rocks with multiple color anomalies, which are commonly associated with epithermal style alteration and mineralization.

Fortuna plans to mobilize a field crew to the area in early January. With the addition of these concessions to Fortuna`s portfolio, the company is moving towards its objective of consolidating a controlling position in one of the most productive silver-gold vein camps in Peru. Most importantly, these new concessions are located within trucking distance of the company`s Caylloma processing plant, and any exploration success on these properties could be quickly capitalized on by trucking ore to Caylloma.

Chip Samples

At total of 90 continuous chip samples were collected by MHC across the Julia vein, and prepared and analyzed at the MHC assay lab facilities at the Arcata Mine in southern Peru. MHC is an international mining company and all its laboratories operate to international Quality Assurance & Quality Control standards. The results reported here however should be considered historic in nature, have not been verified by a Qualified Person as defined by Canadian National Instrument 43-101, and should therefore not be relied upon.

Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. (TSX VENTURE:FVI) is pleased to provide an update on its activities over the past quarter. Since acquiring the Caylloma Silver Mine in June, Fortuna has moved steadily towards its objective of establishing itself as a significant silver producer in a rising metal market. As part of this strategy the Company now has interests in several advanced projects in Peru and Mexico, the two most significant silver producing countries in the world.

Peru

At the 100% owned Caylloma Silver Mine in southern Peru, Fortuna continues to advance through the engineering phase towards development and production. The Company will be spending up to $2 million on exploration drilling over the next year with the goal of expanding the current NI 43-101 compliant estimate of 7 million ounces silver in proven and probable reserves (776,350 tonnes at 9.2 opt) and 14 million ounces silver in inferred resources (1,146,599 tonnes at 12.4 opt), plus significant lead and zinc byproduct credits.

The Caylloma geology office is also reworking the existing ore deposit and production models for the polymetallic Animas vein, to include broad zones of silver-lead-zinc mineralization that were not considered in the current resource estimate. An underground core drilling program (94 holes totaling 1928m) has been completed, and the Company expects the results of the new interpretation during the first quarter of 2006. The Animas structure is at least 3800m long and locally up to 20m wide and may be amenable to bulk tonnage mining methods. A full technical report outlining the original 600 tpd production model is available on the Company`s website at www.fortunasilver.com.

A surface core drilling program is scheduled to commence in mid December to test the continuity of the La Plata-Cimoide mineralized shoot, which remains open along strike and to depth. This structure hosts proven and probable reserves of 52,987 tonnes grading 437 g/t Ag and 2.33 g/t Au, plus inferred resources 40,243 tonnes grading 709 g/t Ag and 2.9 g/t Au (See Technical Report filed by the Company on SEDAR June 24, 2005).

Drilling conducted during 2003 on the La Plata-Cimoide vein by the previous owner returned significant grades, which are tabulated below. These results have been reviewed by a qualified person and are part of the current Caylloma technical report (See Technical Report filed by the Company on SEDAR June 24, 2005).

Fortuna is also working to consolidate a commanding land position in one of the most productive silver-gold vein camps in Peru. The recently announced acquisition of the Julia vein (Dec. 5, 2005 press release), situated just 10km from Caylloma, includes chip sample results up to 16.87 g/t Au and 64 g/t Ag over 2.31 meters across the vein. The Company has also acquired an additional ground surrounding the historic Sukuytambo Mine, which last produced in the 1980`s and reported historic head grades ranging from 180 to 466 g/t silver and 4 g/t gold. Field crews will be exploring these projects in the new year, with the goal of determining the viability of these prospects to become small high grade satellite operations to the Caylloma mill, which is located within easy trucking distance.

Mexico

Through its option agreement with Continuum Resources Ltd. Fortuna can earn a controlling interest in the San Jose Silver-Gold Project in Oaxaca, Mexico (see Nov. 16, 2005 press release). San Jose is a significant high grade silver-gold exploration target which is currently being exploited by a small scale (100 tpd) underground mining operation. During 2004 and 2005, Continuum collected channel samples from underground and conducted core drilling from surface to partially define a high grade mineralized shoot, which remains open to depth and along strike.

This mineralized shoot is one of 3 conceptual targets along a 3km long vein system which remain to be drill tested, and management believes there is excellent potential to expand this resource along strike and to depth with additional work.

Under terms of the agreement, Fortuna will be spending US$1 million on drilling before August 2006, with the goal of proving up additional tonnage. The agreement also provides Fortuna with access to Continuum`s 10 other silver-gold vein projects in the district.

Guatemala

The Tambor Gold project was optioned from Radius Gold in 2004, and the Company had plans for an extensive program of drilling and underground development on this high grade gold deposit. However, in light of recent acquisitions and a primary focus on silver, the Company has decided to drop the Tambor option.

Further to its news release in Stockwatch of Nov. 16, 2005, Continuum Resources Ltd. has closed its private placement of five million common shares at a price of 20 cents per share for total proceeds of $1-million. The placee was Fortuna Silver Mines Inc., a publicly held company designated as a Tier 1 issuer on the TSX Venture Exchange Inc. The company did not pay any finders` fees with respect to this transaction.

All securities issued with respect to the placement are subject to a four-month hold period expiring on April 21, 2006, in accordance with the policies of the TSX-V and the provisions of the British Columbia Securities Act.

The proceeds of the private placement will be used primarily for exploration and drilling on the company`s silver properties in Oaxaca, Mexico, and for general working capital.

The private placement is part of a larger partnership with Fortuna Silver Mines whereby Fortuna may earn a 70-per-cent interest in the company`s 80-per-cent share of the San Jose silver-gold deposit located in Oaxaca, Mexico. The company and Fortuna have reached an agreement whereby Fortuna is required to spend $2-million in exploration over the next 24 months, primarily on diamond drilling. At the termination of the drill program and based on a National Instrument 43-101-compliant resource calculation, Fortuna will pay the company 50 U.S. cents for each ounce of silver or silver equivalent in the measured resource category and 35 U.S. cents for each ounce of silver equivalent in the indicated resource category corresponding to the interest of Fortuna in the deposit.

Starting this year, the company and Fortuna plan to drill test the entire strike length of the San Jose epithermal system with the objective of defining additional mineralized zones and upgrading the existing resource.

On November 16, 2005, the Company announced that it had entered into a joint venture agreement with Fortuna Silver Mines, Inc. to jointly explore the entire length of the San Jose structure. Fortuna’s agreement with Continuum allows Fortuna to earn up to a 70% interest in Continuum’s 80%, or a 56% overall interest in San Jose. To earn its interest, Fortuna will spend $2 million on drilling at San Jose on or before December 1, 2007. A minimum of $1 million will be spent on or before August 1, 2006. When Fortuna has completed drilling, it will prepare an NI 43-101 compliant resource calculation. Based on this calculation, Fortuna will pay to Continuum an amount equal to 56% of the resource at a price of US$0.50 for each ounce of silver equivalent in the Measured resource category, and US$0.35 for each ounce of silver equivalent in the Indicated resource category.

Drilling with two drill rigs is set to begin during the latter part of January with the objective of exploring the entire 3 km-long San Jose vein system.

Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. (TSX VENTURE:FVI) is pleased to report that initial underground drilling on the La Plata vein has intersected new high grade silver and gold mineralization, with a best interval of 1.35m @ 1387 gpt Ag, 16.5 gpt Au.

La Plata is just one of numerous high grade "traditional" veins which comprise the extensive silver-lead-zinc and gold mineralized system at the Company`s 100% owned Caylloma Silver Mine. The vein is located only 0.5 km south of the larger polymetallic Animas vein and within 1.5 km of the processing plant.

Reserves on La Plata and Cymoide (a parallel splay of La Plata) currently stand at 52,987 tonnes of 437 gpt Ag and 2.33 gpt Au, with additional Inferred Resources of 40,243 tonnes @ 709 gpt Ag and 2.99 gpt Au (See Technical Report filed by the Company on SEDAR June 24, 2005).

The Company is working to reopen the mine in 2006 and ongoing underground and surface drilling is designed to help upgrade existing resources, determine optimum production rates, and find new mineralization. A total of 6 holes have been drilled on La Plata and results received to date are tabulated below.

Drill hole LPL-8M-129 intersected the La Plata vein 50 meters below Level 7, the lowest level of underground workings on the vein. Hole LPL-7M-127 intersected a previously unrecognized splay of the vein on Level 7. Mineralization encountered in both drill holes is outside the bounds of existing resources and reserves, and demonstrates that there is good potential to find additional mineralization with ongoing drilling.

Mr. Jorge Ganoza Durant, Vice President of Business Development, commented that "La Plata is only one of several veins that will provide high grade silver and gold values to the processing plant, while the polymetallic Animas vein will provide the bulk of production tonnage."

All Fortuna samples are crushed, pulverized and analyzed at CIMM Analytical Labs preparation facility in Lima, Peru. Fortuna has a quality control and quality assurance procedure in place which includes the insertion of blanks, duplicates and standards on a regular basis.

San Jose Silver-Gold Project, Mexico

Fortuna is also pleased to announce that a core drilling rig has been mobilized to the San Jose project in Oaxaca. The Company is working to earn a 70% interest in the high grade silver-gold project from Continuum Resources Ltd. and is obligated to spend at least $1 million on drilling by August 2006.

The San Jose vein has returned very encouraging results from initial sampling, with underground channel sample values up to 10 g/t gold and 1,100 g/t silver over 2.3m average widths, from existing workings on the Trinidad zone (see Fortuna press release of November 16, 2005 and Continuum Resources Ltd. press release of May 10, 2005).

Fortuna has budgeted for a 10,000m drill program which will involve infill drilling on the Trinidad zone to allow preparation of a resource estimate, as well as wider spaced step outs along the 3km long vein system to identify additional mineralization.

Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. (TSX VENTURE:FVI), is pleased to announce that Mr. Jorge Ganoza Durant will assume the position of President of the Company, as Mr. Peter Thiersch steps aside to take on the role of Vice President Exploration.

Mr. Ganoza`s appointment reflects Fortuna`s prime focus on reopening the Caylloma Silver Mine in Peru in 2006. He is an experienced geological engineer with a background in business development, exploration and underground mining. Jorge represents the third generation of a Peruvian mining family that has owned and operated precious and base metal mines in Peru, Panama and Colombia.

In his new role as Vice President Exploration, Mr. Thiersch will focus on advancing the Company`s San Jose project and others, in Mexico. Peter is a geologist with over 20 years experience in international mineral exploration and will remain as a director and Qualified Person for the Company, as defined by NI 43-101.
