The Financial Post reports in its Tuesday edition that junior miners are focused on one overwhelming issue above all others these days -- financing. The Post's Peter Koven wriets that in the halls of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference in Toronto this week, junior companies are busy comparing notes about how they will raise the next tranche of cash, and when they are going to need it. Despite strong commodity prices, investors have lost interest in speculative exploration firms. Still, raising cash for exploration is not as insurmountable a task today as it was for many companies in 2008 and 2009. Last week, commodities giant Glencore International PLC acquired a 7.8-per-cent stake in Trevali Resources for $18-million (U.S.). The deal gives the company funds to bring the Santander mine in Peru back into production. Trevali sealed this deal thanks to a existing relationship; it has been working with Glencore since 2008. In addition to the financing, the partnership gave Trevali access to Glencore's work force, which is often a problem for juniors. "When one of the world's largest miners takes a position, it makes a difference," chief executive officer Mark Cruise said.

Trevali Completes US$18-Million Private Placement with Glencore International
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire -03/05/12)- Trevali Mining Corporation ("Trevali" or the "Company") (TSX: TV.TO - News)(TSX: TV.WT)(OTCQX: TREVF.PK - News)(Lima: TV.TO - News)(Frankfurt: 4TI.F - News) is pleased to announce that it has completed its previously announced non-brokered private placement with Glencore International AG ("Glencore") to raise US$18 million through the issuance of 12,620,282 common shares in the capital of the Company (the "Common Shares") at CAD$1.42 (US$1.4263) per share (the "Private Placement").
The funds will be utilized to rapidly advance the Company's Santander Mine project in Peru and to provide working capital facilities for the new Halfmile Mine in New Brunswick that is presently under production ramp-up. The Private Placement is subject to final approval of the Toronto Stock Exchange.
On closing of the Private Placement, Mr. Chris Eskdale of Glencore's Metals and Minerals Business Group joined Trevali's Board.
