Shell Launches Green Hydrogen Plant in Winter Games Host City

The project will produce green hydrogen by splitting water molecules with electricity from onshore wind farms and provide about half of total green hydrogen supply for fuel cell vehicles

Shell said on Friday it has started production at its 20 megawatt (MW) zero-carbon hydrogen project in Zhangjiakou, a northern Chinese city co-hosting the “green” 2022 Winter Olympics.

The project, which will produce green hydrogen by splitting water molecules with electricity from onshore wind farms, will provide about half of the total green hydrogen supply for fuel cell vehicles during the Games, which start on February 4.

Chinese officials have said all 26 Olympic venues in Beijing and Hebei province would be 100% powered by renewable energy, while more than 700 hydrogen-fuelled vehicles will also be deployed.

“This project will help secure hydrogen supply for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and make it a green one while contributing to the development of hydrogen industry in the city and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region,” Bai Jing, a Zhangjiakou city government official, said.

The project is part of a joint venture between Shell China and Zhangjiakou City Transport Construction Investment Holding Group and is Shell’s first commercial hydrogen project in China.

Analysis: Biden gets climate win with court loss on Gulf of Mexico oil leases

Zitat von Oginvest: Jan 28 (Reuters) - A U.S. judge’s surprise decision this week to annul the Biden administration’s first Gulf of Mexico oil lease auction because of its climate change impact has raised questions about the future of the nation’s federal drilling program – and played directly into the president’s hand.

President Joe Biden, a Democrat, made a campaign pledge to end federal oil and gas drilling to fight climate change, and he quickly announced a suspension of all new lease sales pending a broad review of drilling's impact on global warming after taking office. Some 25% of U.S. oil and gas production comes from federal lands and waters.

Buthis administration was later forced into the sale after several drilling states successfully sued in federal court in Louisiana. They argued that U.S. law requires the federal government to hold auctions on a regular basis to enhance energy independence and generate revenue.

The November auction generated more than $190 million, the highest since 2019, on 1.7 million acres sold, and drew bids from Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) and Chevron (CVX.N).

This week’s ruling, from a judge in the District of Columbia who was appointed by former President Barack Obama, came after a challenge by environmental group Earthjustice. The judge vacated the auction entirely, saying the Interior Department failed to properly account for its impact on global warming.

Biden's Interior Department had used an environmental impact statement for the auction that was prepared by the administration of former President Donald Trump, a vocal climate skeptic. It contained an argument that oil production in the Gulf of Mexico would reduce, not increase, greenhouse gas emissions because production is dirtier elsewhere in the world.

Biden's Interior Department must now do what it originally intended: take a fresh look at environmental and climate impacts of drilling. It has not yet said yet whether it will suspend other planned drilling auctions pending review, or how long the review will take.

"CONSIDERING OUR OPTIONS"

The environmental group that sued hailed the court's decision and hopes the administration will stop leasing. A Louisiana state official, meanwhile, accused Biden of sabotaging the auction. The U.S. drilling industry and its backers are likely to appeal the case in the hopes of keeping sales moving.

There are hints that Biden's Interior Department knew its Gulf of Mexico oil auction was on weak legal footing.

In the Record of Decision for the sale, it noted that, months after the environmental review was finalized, a federal appeals court in 2020 ruled the government must consider foreign oil consumption in its analysis of how such sales impact greenhouse gas emissions.

That ruling had already effectively blocked U.S. approval of Hilcorp's Liberty drilling project in Alaska.

But the Interior Department's sale document said it did not believe it needed to conduct any additional analysis on how foreign consumption affects emissions.

An Interior Department official declined to comment.

Ali Zaidi, deputy White House national climate advisor, said the court decision shows the U.S. oil leasing program needs to be reformed and that the Interior Department should have the space to do that work

WildEarth Guardians, an environmental group that has sued the federal government repeatedly over climate impacts of onshore leasing and won several victories, said this week's ruling raises doubts about whether the administration can proceed with other planned sales early this year.

"We've set a bar. This latest ruling, I think sets an even stronger bar," said WildEarth Guardians attorney Jeremy Nichols. "And it certainly calls into question whether the Bureau of Land Management is going to be able to legally justify more onshore oil and gas leasing at this point."

Last month the group sought a court order from a federal judge in New Mexico to stop U.S. drilling permit approvals in parcels included in three Trump administration lease sales. The Bureau of Land Management has approved 118 drilling permits on the challenged parcels.

Scott Lauermann, a spokesman for oil industry lobby group the American Petroleum Institute, said late Thursday the API was reviewing the Gulf of Mexico decision and "considering our options.”

Elizabeth Murrill, Solicitor General of Louisiana, which is an intervenor in the case, said the court and the Biden administration were hurting blue-collar workers.

“It is extremely disappointing that the Biden administration continues to sabotage oil and gas lease sales. These actions are crippling consumers, destroying jobs, and jeopardizing our national security," she said.

Chevron CEO Michael Wirth, whose company was one of the high bidders in the Gulf of Mexico sale, said Chevron was reviewing the decision.

"We're disappointed because these lease sales have been conducted successfully in the Gulf of Mexico for decades now and have resulted in us being one of the largest leaseholders out there with over 240 leases," he said.

Moin igespenst,
die HV von RDS hat am 10.12.21 die Vereinfachung der Gesellschaftsstruktur beschlossen. D.h., dass es keine Unterscheidung mehr zwischen "A" und "B"- Aktien mehr gibt. Dann werden die jeweiligen RDS-Aktien im Verhältnis 1:1 getauscht. Neue ISIN s. hier im Thread.
Der Umtausch soll steuerneutral sein, wodurch keine Kapitalertragssteuer zu zahlen ist. Die "A"-Aktien unterlagen bisher der niederländischen Quellensteuer von 15%. Die neuen Aktien werden zukünftig in Großbritannien besteuert und unterliegen der britischen Quellensteuer, die sie aktuell aber nicht einbehalten.

Das ist so, als würde man sagen, daß jemand abstrakte Kunst ernst zu nehmen versucht.

Der Politiker steht nicht alleine, sd. ist eingebunden in einen Apparat. Ein Regierungspolitiker hat unbegrenzte Ressourcen. Wenn also so eine sowas sagt, dann läßt das Rückschlüsse auf den gesamten Apparat zu.

Wann genau? Montag bekommen wir alle Shell plc Aktien (GB00BP6MXD84). Eine daemlichere ISIN - mit 'BP' darin - konnten sie wohl nicht bekommen. Mein Broker hat das 'Royal Dutch' heute Nachmittag aus dem Namen in der Depotanzeige entfernt.

Ich kann die Dämlichkeit der europäischen Gesellschaft auch nicht verstehen und natürlich im Besonderen die der deutschen Gesellschaft. Mich interessiert nur noch, ob es wieder rückwärts geht, wenn der ganze Wahnsinn unbezahlbar wird. Gas und Öl leisten ja gerade einen guten Beitrag.
Strom ist auch nicht zu unterschätzen. Aber die Leute haben es ja so gewählt. Demnächst ist Landtagswahl bei uns in S.-H. und die Grünen sind on den Umfragen sehr erfolgreich.

Auch in Österreich ist die Politik mit Träumern und Philosophen durchseucht.

Wenn ich mir die Lebensläufe unserer Abgeordneten in höchsten Ämtern ansehe, dann wundert mich nix mehr.

Lindner der sämtlich Unternehmen gegen die Wand gefahren hat ist unser Finanzminister, Habeck ein Schriftsteller unser Wirtschaftsminister, Trampolin Dauerstudentin Baerbock Aussenministerin usw.

Ob das so von den Lobbyisten gewollt ist??? Was gibt es besseres als leicht zu lenkende unfähige Politiker.

Also ich nehme das Marionettenkabinett schon lange nicht mehr ernst.

Bin froh für ein Unternehmen zu arbeiten, das Märkte ausserhalb Europas und vor allem Deutschland hat.

Hier findet man ja nicht einmal mehr ordentliche Handwerker ohne Akzent.

Ein Land voller Schwaflern und Theoretikern sind wir geworden.

Gewessler sieht Abhängigkeit von Gas als Problem

Klimaschutzministerin Leonore Gewessler (Grüne) nannte vor allem die Preise auf dem Gasmarkt problematisch. Das langfristige Ziel müsse es sein, nicht mehr von Gas abhängig zu sein und auf erneuerbare Energien zu setzen, so Gewessler. Es soll ein Pilotprojekt starten, um Haushalten den Umstieg auf moderne Geräte zu erleichtern.

Als Unterstützung für Unternehmen soll geprüft werden, ob zur Liquiditätssicherung für produzierende Betriebe in Zeiten hoher Energiepreise die Vorausvergütung der Energieabgaben im Rahmen der Energieabgabenvergütung vorverlegt und auf 25 Prozent erhöht werden kann, hieß es. Für den überwiegenden Teil der Unternehmen seien die hohen Energiekosten problematisch, sagte Wirtschaftsministerin Margarete Schramböck (ÖVP).

Von der Regierung hieß es auch, dass ein Transformationsfonds eingerichtet werden soll, der Unternehmen und Haushalte bei der Umstellung auf nachhaltige Energieversorgung unterstützen soll. Die Umsetzung soll ab 2023 folgen.

Liegen wir in Afrika? Wobei das inzwischen eine Beleidigung ist. Gibt es in mitteleuropäischen Ministerien, wie in Österreich, keine fachlich versierten Beamen mehr, welche den Politikern sagen, daß es physikalisch unmöglich ist, sich selbst an den Haaren aus dem Sumpf zu ziehen?
Daß Windräder und Solar (in unseren geographischen Breiten) keine positive Lebensdauerenergiebilanz hat?


Die Preisexplosion ist ein paar Wochen her, in Zentralasien gibt's Megablackouts, alles haben sie hier inzwischen mit Windrädern zugepflastert und verschandelt und die treten an die ÖFFENTLICHKEIT und geben sowas von sich.

Sind Ölaktien die Fluchtburg der Denkfähigen vor dem totalen Rinderwahnsinn?
