PACIFIC ETHANOL, INC. APPLAUDS E15 LABEL APPROVAL AND
WELCOMES MARKET IMPROVEMENTS
• EPA Ruling for E15 Label Opens New Markets for Ethanol
• USDA June 30 th Grain Report Exceeds Market Expectations
Sacramento, CA, July 5, 2011 – Pacific Ethanol, Inc. (NASDAQ: PEIXD), the leading
marketer and producer of low-carbon renewable fuels in the Western United States, commented
on positive industry progress regarding distribution channels and corn supply.
On June 28, 2011, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved the improved
label for fuel dispensers that carry ethanol blends of up to 15% (E15). With the labeling issue
resolved, gas stations are closer to selling E15 for cars built in 2001 and later, which represents
approximately two-thirds of vehicles on the road.
On June 30, 2011, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported that American farmers
planted 92.3 million acres of corn this spring. Based upon USDA’s latest projections of average
corn yield (158.7 bushels/acre) and harvested acres (84.9 million), this indicates a 2011 harvest
of 13.5 billion bushels – nearly 300 million more bushels of corn than USDA had projected in its
most recent supply/demand estimates.
Neil Koehler, PEI’s president and CEO, stated, “America’s farmers have once again
demonstrated the ability to meet the demand to provide food, feed, fuel and fiber to the world
markets. We expect the greater than anticipated corn supply will reduce our cost of production
2
and sustain favorable market conditions for ethanol production. In addition, the EPA approval is
a significant market indicator that E15 will be sold in the U.S. this year and the American
consumer will have more choice of fuel options at the gas pump. Pacific Ethanol is well poised
to drive company growth from both of these events.”

Senators: Ethanol deal possible
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0711/58447.html
By DARREN GOODE & ROBIN BRAVENDER | 7/6/11 5:30 PM EDT
A trio of senators should be able to reach a deal on ethanol subsidies by Thursday, a key Republican said.
"We should have something we will be able to report to you tomorrow about that," Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) said Wednesday afternoon.
Thune has been in talks with fellow corn ethanol backer Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and ethanol subsidy critic Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) about ending an existing tax credit for blending ethanol in gasoline but keeping alive for now other incentives for the gasoline additive.
"It needs to be worked on today," Thune said, adding he is optimistic that "we're going to have, I think, everybody signed off on some final details" by Thursday. "It's been dragging on for a long time," he added.
The three senators — along with ethanol subsidy foe Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) — started negotiations when 73 senators voted June 16 for an amendment from Feinstein and Coburn immediately repealing a 45 cent per gallon blender tax credit and a 54 cent per gallon tariff on imported ethanol set to expire at the end of the year.
“We’re close,” Feinstein said Wednesday, adding that “it’s possible” that lawmakers could reach a deal this week.
“We’d like to get it done this week,” Klobuchar said.
Coburn has since left the talks, arguing that no additional ethanol subsidies of any type are warranted.
But Feinstein, Thune and Klobuchar have been nudging toward a deal allowing for the money saved from ending the blender tax credit early to go to deficit reduction and also to additional short-term help for the industry that includes blender pumps and production of plant-based cellulosic ethanol.
The three senators have offered no new specifics about a possible deal and declined to detail the remaining hurdles.
Sources closely following the talks believe the senators have had to recalculate around a smaller pool of money available given that a targeted date for ending the blender tax credit — estimated at costing upward of $6 billion for the full year — has been moved from the start of July to August. There has also been discussion over how long to extend help for cellulosic ethanol given that federal assistance may be little used by next year.
Feinstein said she wasn’t sure whether an ethanol deal would make it into federal debt ceiling legislation, but added, “I think it should be if there’s an agreement. There clearly will be deficit savings.”
Republicans have appeared reluctant at best toward allowing any perceived tax hikes on a debt deal.
Senate GOP Whip Jon Kyl — an outspoken ethanol subsidy critic — on Wednesday said he did not know whether a deal on ethanol subsidies would be part of a debt ceiling agreement. "But I've always said with regard to ethanol, that's a matter of bad tax policy that I'm willing to do away with no matter what the tax implications of it are," he said.

Corn Will Rise Despite Subsidy Woes
As energy costs continue to rise globally, alternative sources are back in vogue. While solar and wind energy have become market darlings, ethanol continues to be a point of contention within the renewable energy sector. Built on the back of controversial subsidies, the "fuel of the future" has enjoyed nearly 30 years worth of congressional support. However, with budget deficits ballooning, the U.S. government has taken to the task of cost cutting. Congress has set its sights on the nearly $6 billion in subsidies the ethanol industry receives each year. As a result, both the price of corn and many of the sector's leaders have seen their share prices fall since June. For investors, this drop in price for ethanol-related assets could be a stellar long-term buying opportunity.

US-$ bringen soll.

Pacific Ethanol continues revenue surge
Pacific Ethanol Inc.bizWatch on Thursday posted a loss for the second quarter unchanged from the previous three months, but said it had record sales that point to profits ahead.
Sacramento-based Pacific Ethanol Inc. (Nasdaq: PEIX) reported revenue of $215 million, up from $77 million in the second quarter last year. The loss of $4.7 million compared to a profit of $109 million a year ago -- a gain that included one-time windfalls resulting from the company's exit from bankruptcy.
The loss was about the same as the company posted in the first quarter, which saw similar year-over-year revenue growth. The company said it sold 100.6 million gallons, up 54 percent over the same period in 2010.
"These results reflect the strength of our diversified business strategy," said Neil Koehler, the company's president and chief executive, in a news release. "Overall ethanol market conditions continue to improve ... and we are well-positioned to generate positive operating income."

Someone spent $400 on 1000 shares. Gonna take more than that to get this thing back over .40, IMO. After the company makes their cash payment to the debt holders on Sept. 1, skies the limit...at least until they have to make the next cash payment.
