As validation of the strength of its platform, InfoSpace announced that it has added two experienced executives to its management team in Jan Claesson and York Baur. Both executives have spent significant time at Microsoft and have immediately relevant industry experience. Jan Claesson has joined InfoSpace as executive vice president of wireless. Mr. Claesson was at Microsoft for 11 years and most recently directed the company`s OEM efforts with customers such as Compaq, Dell and Gateway. Mr. Claesson also served as controller for Europe and was a member of the senior international team for Microsoft, establishing
international subsidiaries and generating revenues with systems integrators.
York Baur has joined InfoSpace as the Executive Vice President wireline and broadband taking over for the departed Charles Stubbs. Mr. Baur will also be overseeing InfoSpace`s broadband efforts as the company has consolidated responsibilities in the wake of former head of broadband Mike Riccio`s departure after the second quarter. Mr. Baur`s background has been primarily in Sales and Marketing. While at Microsoft, Mr. Baur was group manager of the Solutions Information Group which was responsible for producing and promoting developer events for VAR`s, developers and systems supporters. Most recently,
Mr. Baur was co-founder and VP Sales and Marketing for SafariDog, Inc. a start-up focusing on broadband applications.

In Jan Claesson`s new official capacity at InfoSpace he is responsible for developing and extending wireless carrier relationships in North and South America. Over the next two years, the company`s major carrier contracts will come up for renewal and we continue to look for positive signs of contract extensions and additional services in anticipation of these dates. The company`s recent contract extension with Verizon to provide a platform for broadband and dial-up services stands as a positive example we look for the company to emulate. InfoSpace will provide a host of applications for Verizon`s DSL subscribers in the form of destination pages. Verizon Online`s
Destination pages are scheduled to debut in mid-September and InfoSpace will work with Verizon to continue to add additional applications over the following months.

hier ist noch der 2.Teil vom Bear Stearns Artikel:

On September 10, InfoSpace announced that it would buy back 21.7 million shares from Vulcan Ventures. The repurchase covers all of Vulcan`s stock leaving no overhang and serving as both a benefit to existing shareholders and confirmation in management`s belief that the stock is undervalued. Vulcan sold the shares to counteract a tax liability from the earlier sale of Microsoft stock. The stock, in our view is a good speculative investment as it is currently trading close to its cash reserves. While many catalysts for growth such as the adoption of 2.5G services remain outside of the near future, we consider the stock as a valuable option on the adoption of mobile data
      services.

Near term catalysts for growth are the rollout of two SMS and enhanced
Services with Infospace`s carrier partners in the US. However, given interoperability issues between carriers, such as billing, carriers may opt to bypass SMS altogether in the US and push instant messaging solutions on their 2.5G networks. IM solutions will not have the same interoperability issues given the IP nature (i.e. non-bearer standard specificity) of these products. The company`s efforts to deepen relationships with carriers are partially driven by the fact that many of the company`s initial agreements come up for renewal in 2002 and 2003. We continue to believe that the fact that carriers are demonstrably deepening their relationships with InfoSpace positively
Influences the company`s ability to maintain its position as a provider of services to those carriers.

We expect Q3 2001 revenue of $33.4 million and a pro forma EPS loss of
($0.03), slightly ahead of the companies guidance of $33 million and a pro form EPS loss of ($0.05) for the quarter. For the fourth quarter, the company expects a pro forma EPS loss of ($0.04) based on revenues of approximately $35.5 million while we estimate that the company will earn revenues of $36.4 million and show pro forma EPS of ($0.02). The company in its most recent conference call announced expected full year pro forma EPS loss for 2001 of ($0.10) while we are more optimistic predicting a full year loss of ($0.06). Current guidance for 2002 indicates a range of revenues of $167-172 million down from previous
guidance of $310 million. We expect $181 million in revenue and look for the company to return to pro forma profitability by the end of 2002. With over $268.2 million in cash at the end of the quarter, the company has more than enough resources to manage its continuing transition.

We continue to believe that InfoSpace has some of the best technology in the wireless, m-commerce and broadband services space. The company is well positioned from exposure to high growth markets and expect the share price to reflect that in time. Particularly as the company delivers additional new contracts and demonstrates that it is deep enough to play in all the areas where the company is developing business. We look toward announcements of carrier adoption of the SMS solution as corroboration of not only these trends, but also of this competitive positioning of the company.

Virgin Mobile Launches New SMS and WAP Services on the InfoSpace Platform
LONDON & BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 2, 2001-- InfoSpace, Inc. (Nasdaq:INSP - news) and Virgin Mobile today announced that Virgin Mobile has launched a broad new range of SMS and WAP-based wireless Internet services built on the InfoSpace platform under Virgin Mobile`s existing brand of VirginXtras value-added services.

The launch enables Virgin Mobile to further differentiate itself in the market by offering its subscribers a broader range of services and new levels of personalization that bring them closer to the information and services most useful to them while on the move. In addition, InfoSpace is actively developing further new services on its technology platform, which it expects will be launched by Virgin Mobile over the coming weeks.

InfoSpace is a leading provider of the platform and applications that enable partners to deliver consumer and commerce services across the Internet to any device over current and next-generation networks and Virgin Mobile, a 50:50 joint venture between Sir Richard Branson`s Virgin Group and One2One, is the UK`s first, and most successful Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), and the UK`s fifth largest network.

In February of this year, Virgin Mobile first deployed its mobile data service built on InfoSpace`s wireless technology platform and suite of services to promote the Virgin Group`s global expertise in the fields of entertainment, leisure and travel. Since then, Virgin`s offering has rapidly grown to become one of the leading mobile Internet services in the UK. According to a recent article in Mobile Choice magazine, the VirginXtras SMS service was deemed to have the strongest offering, particularly for sports services, of all those offered by UK mobile operators.

All of the services are customizable, enabling Virgin Mobile`s users to receive personalized local data, based on their preferences and profiles. In addition, the integration of InfoSpace`s communication services suite allows Virgin Mobile`s customers to send and receive email messages, and to access personal information from an electronic address book, calendar and to-do list.

Nick White, head of VirginXtras at Virgin Mobile, said, ``The additional VirginXtras services means that Virgin Mobile now has the most exciting and comprehensive suite of services of any operator in the UK -- and there are more coming soon!``

Jan Claussen, executive vice president of wireless for InfoSpace said, ``InfoSpace can provide its services over any standard to any device. We are therefore ideally placed to partner with mobile network operators in the delivery of mobile Internet services. They can outsource the entire development to us, at a fraction of what it would otherwise cost. We believe that we can bring them to market more quickly and more cheaply than would otherwise be possible. InfoSpace is committed to continuing to work with Virgin Mobile to leverage our wireless platform and services in exciting new ways. We are confidant that these new services help to drive subscriber uptake and usage and further differentiate Virgin`s offering in the market.``

InfoSpace Reports Record SMS Traffic in Europe For Past Three Consecutive Months
      BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 3, 2001--

Third Quarter Marks Consecutive Record-setting Months for Delivery
      of One and Two-way SMS Across European Carrier Partners;
Potential for Rapid Growth in Americas as Advanced
      SMS Technology More Widely Deployed

InfoSpace, Inc. (Nasdaq:INSP - news), a leading provider of the platform and applications that enable partners to deliver consumer and commerce services across the Internet to any device over current and next-generation networks, today announced record consecutive months for SMS traffic across the company`s European carrier partners during the third quarter.

``InfoSpace has been on the cutting edge in delivering SMS-based services in countries around the world for a long time. Our success is demonstrated by the record levels of European SMS traffic we have delivered over our platform during each of the past three months,`` said Naveen Jain, chairman and chief executive officer of InfoSpace. ``As a result of our experience and the strong relationships we have forged with our wireless carrier partners to date, we are well positioned to support carriers in the US and overseas as they look for solutions that enable them to roll out innovative SMS-based mobile information services to their customers.``

SMS-based mobile-to-mobile messaging and value added services have been very successful in Europe. The widespread adoption of SMS services in Europe has led some carriers there to derive significant percentages of their revenue from the delivery of SMS services. Once advanced technologies enabling 2-way SMS and SMS interoperability between carrier networks become more widespread in North and South America, analysts have predicted SMS usage to grow rapidly in the Americas as well.

InfoSpace began powering SMS-based services for wireless carriers in 1996 and today the company powers SMS services for leading carriers in countries around the world including Virgin Mobile (UK), KPN (Netherlands), Libertel (Netherlands), Dutchtone (Netherlands), diAx (Switzerland), Vodafone Australia (Australia), Verizon (US), Cingular (US) and ALLTEL (US).

The InfoSpace SMS platform enables carriers to deliver a broad range of SMS-based services, from asynchronous time and event-based alerts to 2-way `interactive` SMS services to cross-carrier SMS text messaging interoperability. InfoSpace`s SMS services can be delivered to almost any digital phone or pager, not just phones that have WAP browsers installed. Therefore, by rolling out value-added interactive services over SMS, carriers are able to target these services at almost any device on their network.

Recent developments in SMS technology also position SMS as a driver of WAP usage. This new technology, referred to as ``WAP-push,`` is included in the newest WAP specifications and allows a formatted message containing embedded links to WAP pages to be delivered to a handset via SMS. When the subscriber views the message, they will have the option to click on any of the embedded links, which will automatically initiate a WAP session and take the user to pages that contain additional information.

Virgin Mobile, having made substantial inroads in the highly competitive wireless phone market, is jonesing for a competitive edge with the launch of SMS (short message service) and WAP (wireless application protocol) services for its customers.

      • Wireless Village Breaks Ground with Mobile Instant Messaging Demo
      • Nokia Joins Multimedia Messaging Scramble
      • Virgin Mobile Sprinting to U.S. Shores

The new messaging and information display offerings were built on the InfoSpace (Nasdaq: INSP - news) platform with Virgin Mobile`s VirginXtras package, the companies said, adding that additional customer services based on the platform are in the pipeline.

      Personalized Service Xtras

The arrangement builds on the deployment of a mobile data service by InfoSpace and Virgin Mobile that is based on InfoSpace`s wireless technology platform. Since that deployment, VirginXtras has developed a strong following in the United Kingdom, especially with its SMS service, the company said.

VirginXtras delivers personalized information using a blend of voice, SMS and WAP services based on user preferences and profiles, according to Virgin. With the integration of InfoSpace`s communication services suite, customers can send and receive e-mail messages and can access an electronic address book, calendar and task list.

A customer logging on to the Virgin Mobile Web site can identify preferences -- choosing among sports, music, entertainment, travel, shopping and fun -- on the Xtras list. Information then is delivered to the user`s mobile phone.

      Expanding Empire

Virgin Mobile, a joint venture between airline and entertainment mogul Sir Richard Branson`s Virgin Group and Deutsche Telekom subsidiary One2One, operates the fifth-largest wireless network in the UK. Earlier this year, the company reached a milestone when it passed the million-customer mark.

And Virgin`s wireless empire has expanded with Virgin Mobile Australia -- a partnership with Optus -- and Virgin Mobile Asia, a similar joint venture between Virgin and Singapore Telecom.

Virgin Mobile also has said it expects to sign a deal with a U.S. carrier, leading the industry rumor mill to churn out reports earlier this year that a US$1 billion deal between Virgin Mobile and Sprint PCS was imminent. To date, there has been no confirmation of an agreement with Sprint or any other U.S. carrier.

InfoSpace provides communication, entertainment, gaming and speech applications, and e-commerce services to a wide range of companies, including Verizon, AT&T Wireless, Cingular Wireless, Alltel, Virgin Mobile, Charles Schwab, Intel, Lucent, Nortel, AOL, Microsoft, Lycos, National Discount Brokers and Bloomberg.

POPcast to Integrate Personal Broadcasting Services into InfoSpace`s Broadband Platform
Video Services Tap the Power of Broadband Connections; Differentiator for InfoSpace`s Broadband Platform and Applications
LOS ANGELES & BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 2001-- POPcast Communications, a leading provider of turnkey, automated video communications solutions, today announced an agreement with InfoSpace, Inc. (NASDAQ:INSP - news), a leading provider of the platform and applications that enable partners to deliver consumer and commerce services across the Internet to any device over current and next-generation networks, to integrate its video services into InfoSpace`s broadband platform.

POPcast plans to integrate its automated video services with InfoSpace`s broadband PC platform by the end of the year and offer to broadband DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) and cable modem service providers.

POPcast will integrate three primary broadband-enabling technologies, which are subscription and/or usage-based, and integrated into InfoSpace`s broadband platform:

VideoMail: Web-based application that allows users to create video within a Web environment. It allows users to record, play back and send media via e-mail, MSN® Messenger or POPcast`s Web-based video management environment. The application sends video content as e-mail via a media server so viewers can access it with a URL, rather than a file attachment.
VideoCreate: Standalone easy-to-use application that allows users to capture video and import other media types such as audio, text, music and graphics to create personalized videos. Users upload video to the network or store video locally (project files), and have the ability to invite viewers to watch video content via e-mail or the Web.
VideoLive: Standalone application that allows users to stream media live from PC-to-PC or wireless devices, such as PDAs. Users can broadcast peer-to-peer or expand viewer capacity by automatically reserving and purchasing Bandwidth-On-Demands through the application or Web environment. Users can also schedule a pay-per-view event by charging their viewers a ``ticket`` price to access their stream.
``We continue to create and seek out new technologies that take advantage of the speeds broadband connections provide,`` said York Baur, InfoSpace executive vice president, wireline and broadband. ``This is a great example of the compelling services being developed and supported by our partners for the InfoSpace platform. POPcast`s video services are exciting tools that showcase the dramatic difference between narrowband and broadband Internet connections.``

``Leading broadband providers recognize that delivering services that substantiate the adoption of broadband is critical,`` said Mike Wilson, POPcast`s senior vice president of corporate development. ``As broadband adoption continues to grow in the next few years, providers understand the increasing need to drive usage of these broadband connections -- POPcast`s turnkey solutions allow them to drive both adoption and billable usage of these connections through video communications. InfoSpace has a compelling platform that is used by leading providers. The integration of our services helps providers to offer users a compelling broadband experience and further monetize their networks via integrated commerce-enabled video communications solutions.``

      @micky.s

In July 2001, ``My Nearest`` was recognized by MIS Australia, one of Australia`s leading information technology journals, with the prestigious Innovation Award in the Telecommunications category.

(jk/c`t)
