U.S. Army Selects Saba for e-Learning Implementation

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Apr 29, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- To transform the way soldiers are trained, the U.S. Army has selected Saba for the learning management system, which IBM Business Consulting Services is implementing for the Army Distributed Learning System. Saba (Nasdaq:SABA), a leading provider of Human Capital Development and Management (HCDM) solutions, today announced that the Army has licensed Saba Learning, Saba Content, Saba Publisher, and Saba Virtual Learning Environment Extension for use in the latter half of 2003. The Army Distributed Learning System (DLS) program will leverage the Saba system to train up to two million Army leaders, trainers, soldiers, and civilians.

"The Army Distance Learning Program is a technological enabler that supports the Army Vision -- People, Readiness, and Transformation -- by expanding training opportunities and providing greater flexibility in developing soldiers and growing leaders," said General Eric K. Shinseki, Army Chief of Staff.

Integrating the Saba Enterprise Learning Suite, IBM Business Consulting Services will assist the Army`s training program by (a) consolidating currently disparate training and educational information into a single enterprise solution and (b) providing the Army with numerous training delivery vehicles including traditional instructor-led training as well as distance learning. This capability will make training coordination less costly, make delivery more flexible, and provide soldiers the ability to track their own training history.

"The Department of Defense is faced with complex challenges that require mission-ready armed forces," said Geno Tolari, Saba Chairman and CEO. "We are honored to leverage the Saba system to help the Army increase its ability to respond to the needs of the nation in this challenging environment."

Saba has partnered with Government Micro Resources Inc. (GMRI) to offer Saba solutions and support to federal, state and local governments on the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule contract (No. GS-35F-4566G). For more information contact the Saba Public Sector Office at 703/269-6400.

      - Saba Learning
      - Saba Content
      - Saba Publisher
      - Saba Virtual Learning Environment Extension

      @Wolframit
