Plasma oxidation of aluminium for insulated nitride transistor gates
RWTH Aachen University and Aixtron SE in Germany have developed a new technique to create aluminium oxide insulated gates for nitride semiconductor transistors [Herwig Hahn et al, Semicond. Sci. Technol., vol27, p062001, 2012]. The method consists of depositing a thin layer of aluminium that is then oxidized in oxygen plasma, creating an insulating layer of aluminium oxide (AlOx).
Nitride transistors have excellent potential as the basis of RF power amplifiers and are also promising for use in high-power switches..........

Hi BrokerGagobert,
habe so die ein oder andere Seite im Netz wo man einschlägiges zum LED-Markt findet.
Ich bin der festen Überzeugung , das die Quartalsergebnisse sämlicher LED-Produtenten schon im zweiten Quartal erhebliche Umsatzsteigerungen aufweisen werden. Das wird sich in Q3 und Q4 weiter stark steigern. In deren Sog weren Aixtron und Veeco mit nach oben gehen auch wenn die Steigerung der LED-Absätze zunächst aus vorhandenen Kapazitäten bedient werden.

China's Ministry of Science and Technology recently published development targets for the LED industry. The targets include nurturing 20-30 industry leading firms with core technologies before 2015, increasing the percentage of domestically-produced LED chips to 80%, as well as dropping costs of LED products to 1/5 of what they were in 2011.
The subsidy program also aims to develop and expand LED lighting from the years 2012-2014 and by 2015, have white LED lighting reach a luminous efficiency of 150-200 lm/W, which would match with international trends. The government will push to have LED lighting products make up 30% of the lighting market as well by 2015 and have the lighting promoted heavily in public and architectural lighting sector as well.
The announcement of the LED subsidy program, however, was originally supposed to be published on March 20, but has been delayed due to the high amount of firms competing. Industry sources noted there are strict guidelines the government is considering for choosing the final firms and that it is still restructuring the overall structure for the subsidies.
Sources also added Wu Ling, general secretary of China's Solid State Lighting Alliance, is coming to Taiwan in June, which will most likely push the final decision of subsidy distribution until June, causing LED growth not to develop as much as industry participants had hoped.

Demand for LED lamps for lighting in the Asia-Pacific region will hit 3.4 billion units in 2016.
Sales of LED lamps in Asia-Pacific will hit 3.4 billion units in 2016.
Sales of LED lamps for general lighting applications in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region will reach nearly 3.4 billion units in 2016, according to a new forecast by market analyst company ElectroniCast. The figure equates to an average annual growth rate of 101.6% between 2011 and 2016.
In 2011, the street lighting category of LED lamp applications dominated the product market share in terms of consumption value in APAC. However, comments ElectroniCast, the General Service (“Type-A”) lamp is closing in fast and is forecast to overtake the street lighting category by 2013.
The analyst points out that there is a big difference in product category market share from the value data ($ million) versus the volume data (quantity/number of units), especially for the streetlight category. This is because there is such a huge difference in the relatively higher pricing for a streetlight lamp compared to the lower pricing for other types of lamp.
For example, in terms of volume (number of lamps) expected to be consumed, the street lighting category has an estimated (only) 1% of the total volume of LED-based lamps use in APAC in 2012.
Some designs of streetlight fixtures may feature than one lamp. Therefore ElectroniCast expects that the average street lamp will increase in brightness output over the forecast period (2011-2016). Consequently, fewer LEDs per lamp and fewer lamps per light fixture are expected to be required over time. The data considered by ElectroniCast counts the lamps rather than the fixtures.
The forecast also segments the market data by three major end-user categories: government, commercial/industrial, and residential/non-specific. Most of the streetlights come under the “government” category; the commercial/ industrial group is especially strong in the PAR lamps, MR lamps and Type-A lamps (near term).
LED linear/tube lamps and specialty lamps, such as high bay and flood lamps, are also counted, while the residential category is forecast to have “relatively strong” use of the general service (Type-A) style of lamps.
ElectroniCast estimates that 101.66 million LED lamps units were installed in the APAC region in 2011. The number of LED lamps used in 2016 is forecast to be nearly 3.39 billion units, representing an average annual growth rate of 101.6% (2011-2016).
National splits
Additionally, the APAC LED lamp forecast provides the market data by the following regional segments: Asia Pacific (Total), People’s Republic of China, Japan, Republic of Korea and the Rest of Asia.
