VIASPACE Signs Contract and Plants Giant King Grass for Pellet Mill in Guyana, South America

WALNUT, Calif., April 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --VIASPACE Inc. (OTCQB: VSPC) today announced that the company has signed a contract with Emunite Energy Solutions Inc. to provide Giant King Grass for its planned 100,000 ton per year pellet mill. Giant King Grass was delivered to Guyana and planted April 15-17, 2014. VIASPACE received an initial payment, and will receive an ongoing license fee upon production.

Emunite Energy Solutions is based in St. Lucia, West Indies. The company is dedicated to the development and successful implementation of sustainable renewable energy solutions that replace fossil fuel powered generation plants in developing nations. Emunite focuses on solutions that address the power and energy challenges faced by developing nations, while simultaneously providing an economic stimulation to the agricultural sectors.Further information on Emunite is available on their website www.emuniteenergy.com.

Emunite CEO, Mr. Glenrick White, stated, "We are happy to team with VIASPACE to provide Giant King Grass as a dedicated energy crop for our pellet mill. Giant King Grass pellets will be exported to the USA and Europe to replace coal in existing coal-fired power plants, thus reducing their carbon dioxide emissions. This renewable energy project is good for the global environment, and provides agriculture and industrial jobs in Guyana. This project has received support from the Ministry of Agriculture as well as Go Invest Guyana and is seen as a viable boost not only to employment but also to foreign exchange. We have partnered with a local team lead by David Searam and Arnold Doobay to facilitate the provision of alternative employment and promotion of agriculture for the area of Kwakwani, a predominantly logging area."

Guyana is on the northern coast of South America, bordered by Venezuela, Brazil and Suriname and the Atlantic Ocean. Guyana is a former British colony where English is spoken. Although not actually in the Caribbean, Guyana is considered more Caribbean than South American and is better known for playing cricket as opposed to football (soccer). Guyana is the size of Great Britain or the same size as Minnesota in the US, but has a population of only 795,000 people. Economic activity includes agriculture-- rice, sugarcane and food crops, bauxite, gold and diamond mining and timber. It is located about 6 degreesnorth of the equator and includes a large tropical rain forest and savanna grasslands.

Dr. Carl Kukkonen, VIASPACE CEO, reported, "I personally went to Guyana to oversee the planting. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the Guyana team. The Giant King Grass, which originated from our nursery in California, was planted in savanna grassland that is adjacent to the rain forest. The Guyana team is confident that rainfall will be sufficient and that additional irrigation is not needed. The planting is only 140 miles from Georgetown, the capital, and is strategically placed, being very close to the Berbice River where timber is currently exported, and pellets can be easily transported to the river for export. The tropical climate of Guyana is ideal for growing Giant King Grass. Near the coast, they grow a lot of sugarcane. However, there are vast areas in the interior suitable for Giant King Grass where nothing of significant economic value is growing now. This represents a large business opportunity for Guyana and for VIASPACE."

VIASPACE Board Chairman, Dr. Kevin Schewe, added, "The announcement of this project with Emunite is important to our Company and its shareholders for two significant reasons. First, VIASPACE now has Giant King Grass growing on the continent of South America which we know is a very large market for our product and business model. Second, our partner's plan here is to use VIASPACE Giant King Grass to produce biomass pellets for export to Europe and the USA. Our shareholders know how financially important the global pellet market is. The current global market volume of demand for biomass pellets is about 16 million metric tons annually and is projected to essentially triple to 46 million tons annually by 2020, representing a total market value of $8 billion U.S. Most of the near-term growth is predicted in wood fuel pellet markets worldwide. At VIASPACE, we know that we have a better solution to this demand. Our product, Giant King Grass, is rapidly and continuously renewable (can be harvested at 15 feet height twice per year in a rain forest climate like Guyana) as opposed to trees which provide a vital environmental canopy and have a long life cycle."

Dr. Schewe concluded, "I am truly excited for our Company and its shareholders to add Guyana and South America to our global footprint! VIASPACE is succeeding in building a pipeline of widely diverse, renewable, green energy biomass projects (and animal feed projects) both domestically and across the globe using our Giant King Grass biomass platform product. We are getting multiple deals in place and creating a pipeline for future revenues. 2014 has started very strong for us and we have much more to report going forward."

Pictures of the planting in Guyana are available on the VIASPACE Facebook page www.facebook.com/viaspaceinc.

VIASPACE Giant King Grass Power Plant Feasibility Study Contract Signed.

WALNUT, Calif., May 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --VIASPACE Inc. (OTCQB: VSPC) today announced that Energia Reino Verde (English translation "Green Kingdom Energy"), the company that will own and operate the 12 MW biomass power plant to be co-located with a 2,100 acre Giant King Grass (GKG) plantation in Nicaragua has signed a contract on May 23rd with PELICAN SA of Managua, Nicaragua to conduct a formal feasibility study of the project. PELICAN focuses on developing, building and operating renewable energy projects in Nicaragua and the region, including biomass, hydroelectricity and solar.

Energia Reino Verde is a 50-50 partnership of VIASPACE and prominent Nicaraguan partners. VIASPACE CEO Dr. Carl Kukkonen also serves as president of Energia Reino Verde.

VIASPACE also announced that Dr. Kukkonen will be an invited speaker at the 17th Annual Platts Private Power in Central America Conference to be held June 12-13, 2014 in Panama City, Panama. The conference covers fossil fuel and renewable electricity projects in the region, and the Nicaragua Energia Reino Verde project will be presented as a case study.

Dr. Carl Kukkonen, VIASPACE CEO, reported, "I have met with PELICAN several times and am pleased to have them on board. Their team has extensive experience including engineering, construction and operations of biomass power plants. The feasibility study will build on and validate our internal prefeasibility study, business plan and financial model. We plan to have the feasibility study completed in 90 days. I will go to Nicaragua next week for the kickoff of the feasibility study and to meet with our Nicaraguan partners and visit the Giant King Grass plantation."

Kukkonen continued, "The Platts Conference in Panama will be an excellent opportunity to promote our concept of a co-located Giant King Grass plantation and power plant where we "grow our own electricity" to provide 24/7, reliable base renewable electricity as a contrast to (and potential companion with) intermittent sources like wind and solar. We will also conduct business meetings during the conference."

VIASPACE Chairman, Dr. Kevin Schewe, also commented, "Simultaneous with the formal feasibility study, we are working on the financing for the Energia Reino Verde 12 MW biomass power plant. We have a superb Nicaraguan team in place and the Giant King Grass plantation is growing well and steadily expanding. We see this project as our prime business model both from the economic standpoint of co-locating the power plant and GKG plantation, as well as VIASPACE supplying GKG and partnering in the power plant revenues. Furthermore, we believe that there are significant additional opportunities for VIASPACE to grow its footprint in Central America as we continue to successfully develop this project. Our credibility in the region is evident from the invitation for Dr. Kukkonen to speak at the Platts Conference in Panama. Our corporate growth continues at a perfect time when the average carbon dioxide measurements at all monitoring stations in the northern hemisphere were above 400 parts per million for the month of April 2014, the first time that's been recorded in human history. We are creating an economically advantageous pathway to reduce global carbon emissions at a time that it is most needed."

USA wollen CO2-Ausstoß um 30 Prozent senken

      ...

Update on VIASPACE Giant King Grass Power Plant in Nicaragua
WALNUT, Calif., June 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- VIASPACE Inc. (OTCQB: VSPC) today announced that CEO Dr. Carl Kukkonen traveled to Nicaragua and Panama to:
      •meet with Nicaraguan business partners
•visit the plantation where Giant King Grass has been growing since 2012
•meet with the team conducting the formal power plant feasibility study
•interview potential EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractors that would build the power plant
•meet with potential financial investors in the power plant project

Kukkonen met with AGRICORP CEO Mr. Amilcar Ibarra Rojas and other principals in Energia Reino Verde (English translation "Green Kingdom Energy"), the special purpose company that will own and operate the 12 MW biomass power plant to be co-located with a 2,100 acre Giant King Grass (GKG) plantation in Nicaragua. The Nicaraguan partners plan to provide substantial equity funding for the project, in addition to the project development funding they have already provided. They are taking the lead in obtaining all government approvals and permits for the project. Energia Reino Verde is a 50-50 partnership of VIASPACE and Nicaraguan partners. VIASPACE CEO Dr. Carl Kukkonen serves as president of Energia Reino Verde.

Giant King Grass has been growing on the 10,000 acre plantation on Lake Nicaragua since 2012. 6,000 acres are planted in rice and the remaining land is available for Giant King Grass. Irrigation from Lake Nicaragua and captured rainfall allows for year-round Giant King Grass production. At the plantation, Kukkonen met with the agronomy team. Giant King Grass is growing well in Nicaragua and individual GKG plants weigh even more than those grown in California demonstrating robust, high-yielding GKG growth in the Nicaraguan environment.

Kukkonen and the Nicaraguan partners met with PELICAN SA, the company conducting the formal feasibility study of the project. The feasibility study team includes experts on electric power and legal/environmental issues in Nicaragua, a power plant engineer from the US experienced in construction and procurement, an expert in connecting to the electrical grid, a sugarcane plantation expert, and the person who built and operated the first sugarcane bagasse power plant in Nicaragua. The feasibility study will be completed in September 2014. The purpose of the feasibility study is to confirm that the Energia Reino Verde business plan is both technically and economically feasible, and to recommend any improvements. The feasibility study is an independent third-party assessment that is required by financial institutions and investors.

Kukkonen met with four potential EPC contractors that are interested in building the power plant. An EPC contractor guarantees the price, schedule and performance of the power plant. Experience in the Central American region and experience with biomass power plants are important factors in selecting an EPC contractor. These discussions will continue and an EPC contractor will be selected soon after the feasibility study is completed in September.

Kukkonen also met with international development banks, commercial banks and equity investors to describe the project to them and understand their ability to provide financing. Renewable energy is of considerable interest to them, and the fact that Giant King Grass is a dedicated energy crop that provides a reliable fuel source is very important. Formal meetings with financing institutions will occur after the third-party feasibility study is completed.

VIASPACE Chairman, Dr. Kevin Schewe, commented, "We have launched the formal feasibility study for our 12MW Nicaragua biomass power plant partnership to be completed in the next 90 days. We have complete confidence in PELICAN SA and the impressive team of professionals that they have assembled to get this job done in a manner that can be used as a reproducible template for Nicaragua and the region. Our goal is not a single 12MW biomass power plant but multiple biomass power plants leading to a green energy electric industry that contributes to the region's economy with job creation, carbon-neutral electricity production and reduced dependence on fossil fuels. Our partners in this project are capable, well-connected and moving forward with confidence and finesse. VIASPACE and its shareholders are fortunate to share in this team effort and budding development in Central America."
