Gute Idee. Hauptsache der Thread wird begleitet von Kurssteigerungen. Im Moment sieht es (zugegebenermaßen auf hohem Niveau) ja eher mau aus verglichen mit der Entwicklung im Hang Seng:keks:

Equities underpin earnings for insurer giant China Life

Stephanie Tong

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

Dominant life insurer China Life Insurance (2628) yesterday reported nine- month net profit of 24.7 billion yuan (HK$25.6 billion), underpinned by the robust performance of world equity markets. Earnings per share for the nine months ended September were 87 fen.

As at September 30, investment assets of the Beijing-based insurer were 878 million yuan with an investment yield of 8.63 percent, according to a filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange. No year-earlier numbers were provided.

When the insurer reported first-half results in August, it said net profit, also supported by equity gains, accelerated 159.75 percent to 23.29 billion yuan. Analysts were surprised and said the growth was about "spectacular investment gains, but not business growth."

Sun Hung Kai Financial strategist Castor Pang Wai-sun said it would be premature to say if investing more of its assets in equities would be a greater risk. "We have to compare the performance of the company in a bull run and a bear market. We have yet to face the bears. We just have to wait and see," Pang said.

China Life's H shares have risen 83 percent so far this year and its A-shares in the Shanghai stock market have surged more than 290 percent since they were listed in January this year.

With the surge yesterday, the insurer's market value surpassed that of leading US phone company AT&T, making the fifth mainland enterprise to secure a spot among the world's 10 largest companies.

Based on yesterday's closing price of its H share, the insurer had a market value of HK$386.9 billion, according to Reuters data.

And based on the closing in Shanghai, the insurer had a market capitalization of US$259.1 billion (HK$2.02 trillion), according to Bloomberg, compared with AT&T's US$255.6 billion.

H shares of China Life yesterday closed at HK$52, up 1.07 percent, while its A shares surged 6.72 percent to end at 75.08 yuan in Shanghai.
