Liebe PCCW-Fans!

Ich moechte mich heute von Euch verabschieden, denn meine Zeit als Trainee in HK geht am Freitag dieses Woche zu Ende. Bis dahin werde ich Euch noch in gewohnter Form mit den `PCCW News aus Hongkong` auf dem laufenden halten. Am Sonntag gehts wieder zurueck nach Deutschland. Fuer Euer Interesse, die konstruktiven Diskussionen und vielen netten Worte in unserem Thread ein herzliches `Dankeschoen` an alle Beteiligten. Seht es mir nach, dass ich viele Anfragen zu anderen HK-Werten nicht beantworten konnte, es ging zeitlich einfach nicht. Ab naechster Woche bin ich weiterhin im Asienboard auf Wallstreet-Online (nur nicht mehr so frueh am Morgen!), um einige interessante Werte aus HK ausfuehrlich vorzustellen.

Aufgrund des grossen Interesses an PCCW ist gemeinsam mit den Boardteilnehmern `momberger` und `4dot` die Idee entstanden, die PCCW-community bei einer Aktion um Hilfe zu bitten: PCCW hat zwei Tage gebraucht, um 10 Milliarden USD aufzutreiben. Wir wuerden gerne "nur" 10.000 Euro an die Kinderkrebshilfe spenden. Als Aktionaere tragen wir das Risiko von Kursverlusten, aber immerhin mit der Hoffnung, das es wieder aufwaerts geht. Die Menschen, denen unsere Spende zugute kommen soll, haben diese Hoffnung oft nicht mehr. Daher bitten wir Euch um Eure Mithilfe:

Als Stichwort haben wir uns `PCCW share+care` ausgedacht.
Da es sich um eine gemeinnuetzig anerkannte Organisation handelt, ist die Spende natuerlich steuerlich absetzbar. Vielleicht spendet jeder 0.01 DEM pro gehaltener Aktie oder einfach soviel wie er/sie mag. Das Ende der Aktion ist am 30.6.2000.

Auch Wallstreet-Online wird sich an der Aktion beteiligen. Es wird z.Zt. noch geklaert, auf welcher website wir den Saldo `unserer` Spenden abrufen koennen. Darueber wird in diesem Thread noch informiert.

Wer etwas gespendet hat, haengt vielleicht einfach ein `leeres` Posting an den Thread, damit wir einige Tage lang "oben" bleiben und sich vielleicht noch andere in die Aktion einklinken (Selbstverständlich dürft ihr auch schreiben, wieviel ihr gespendet habt!!!).

seit mehr als 25 Jahren setzt sich die Deutsche Krebshilfe für die Belange krebskranker Mitbürger ein. In Fortsetzung des seit ihrer Gründung bestehenden Förderschwerpunktes "Kinderkrebshilfe" gründete sie 1996 die Tochterorganisation Stiftung Deutsche KinderKrebshilfe.

Hallo an alle,
die zwei unterschiedlichen Kontonummern kommen dadurch zu stande, daß die eine mir von der Sparkasse mitgeteilt worden ist und die andere von der Website der Krebshilfe stammt.
Weiterhin ist die Kinderkrebshilfe (soweit mir das erklärt worden ist) ein eigenständiger Teil der Krebshilfe. Dieser zwar untergeordnet aber wie der Name schon sagt, geht es hier um Hilfe für Kinder. Auch ist die Kinderkrebshilfe ein e.V. und die Krebshilfe eine Stiftung. Daran ist schon zu sehen, daß beides nicht genau ein und das selbe ist.
Vorwürfe die gegen unsere Aktion im Moment laut werden, sind meiner Meinung nach so angelegt, daß über den in Comunities bekannten Namen von J.M., versucht wird sich wichtig zu machen, bekannt zu werden und vor allem dann Lemming zu finden für angeblich "Den Tip des Tages"!!!!

Für alle die es trotzdem überprüfen wollen, können ja bei der Kindrekrebshilfe anrufen und sich die richtigkeit der Aktion bestätigen lassen.

Liebe PCCW-Community!
Ich bin am Montagmorgen wieder in Deutschland gelandet und habe mir
noch eine kurze Pause gegönnt, daher hatte ich erst gestern wieder
Internetzugang. Das Börsengeschehen in Hongkong beobachte ich erst
seit heute wieder intensiv. Da ich heute den ganzen Tag beschäftigt
war, kann ich mich leider erst jetzt melden.

Über die Vorwürfe, die gegen unsere Spendenaktion und mich persönlich
hier auf dem Board erhoben werden, ärgere ich mich sehr und weise sie
zurück. Es handelt sich übelste Nachrede, die jeglicher Grundlage
entbehrt. Keine einzige Silbe ist wahr.

Die Spendenaktion ist bei der Krebshilfe angemeldet, wovon sich jeder
gerne durch einen Telefonanruf überzeugen kann.

Selbstverständlich habe ich die letzten acht Wochen als Trainee bei
einer Bank in Hongkong gearbeitet. Dadurch hatte ich Gelegenheit, mich
intensiver mit dem lokalen Aktienmarkt auseinanderzusetzen.
Wie Ihr wisst, habe ich versucht, Nachrichten über PCCW
und später auch andere interessante Werte zusammenzutragen und zu
übersetzen. Alle meine persönlichen Einschätzungen habe ich DEUTLICHST
als solche kenntlich gemacht.

Zu den von mir intensiver behandelten Werten wird es ab nächster
Woche Einzelanalysen geben, wenn ich alles Material gesichtet habe,
was ich aus HK mitgebracht habe. Meine Marken für PCCW bleiben
HKD 15 (erfolgreich getestet) und HKD 20. Ausführungen dazu in
vorangegangenen threads.

Ich kann nicht verstehen, warum durch Boardteilnehmer wie Dr. Schlegel
und andere infame Verleumdungen in die Welt setzen, die lediglich
Unfrieden und Unruhe stiften. Die Paarung von Mißgunst und Dummheit,
die hier zu beobachten ist, halte ich für zutiefst
verabscheuungswürdig und gefährlich. (Fachlich ist es lächerlich, den
Markt für PCCW von Deutschland aus manipulieren zu wollen. Allen
unter Euch zeigt ein Vergleich der Umsätze in HK und Deutschland,
wo hier der Markt ist.)

Vielen Dank an Alle, die gespendet haben, die mir und meinen
Informationen aus HK vertraut haben und daß auch weiterhin wollen.

Greenspan rechnet mit weiterem Wachstum
Washington (dpa) - Der amerikanische Notenbankchef Greenspan rechnet mit einem weiteren Wirtschaftswachstum. Das sagte er in einer Rede in Chicago. Die neuen Hochtechnologien werden nach Greenspans Ansicht auch weiterhin für eine steigende Produktivität sorgen. Die Notenbank müsse aber weiter darauf achten, den Inflationsdruck einzudämmen. Die USA hatte die Leitzinsen zuletzt im März erhöht. Es war die fünfte Anhebung seit Juni 1999.

Ich distanziere mich ausdrücklich von den ungeheuerlichen Vorwürfen gegen Dich. Ich habe Deine Beiträge sehr gern gelesen. Sie konnten mir bei meiner Entscheidungsbildung hilfreich sein. Und das ist doch die eigentliche Absicht eines jeden (!) Beitrags, habe ich zumindest bisher gedacht. Wer sich was aus welchem Beitrag herausliest, muss schließlich jeder für sich selbst entscheiden. Hallo allerseits,

Ich finde es wirklich schlimm, da engagiert sich mal jemand (John)
für die Kinderkrebshilfe und gleich wird er angepflaumt.
Schade, daß es so wenige Menschen gibt, die einerseits immer versuchen
die neusten Informationen und Einschätzungen zu einer Aktie zu finden,
um unseren Profit zu steigern und sich dann auch noch für einen
guten Zweck engagieren.

Pacific Century Cyberworks, Denwell Eneterprises Ltd, Galaxy Luck Enterprises
Ltd, Unicrown Ltd und Wired Technology Consultants Group Ltd
werden 15,9 Prozent ihrer Anteile an der Point Property.com
Ltd (PP.com) gegen Bargeld und einer 3,1-prozentigen Beteiligung an
AWT tauschen.

Das im Bereich der See- und Flugfracht
tätige Unternehmen AWT wird den vier Unternehmen und der
100-prozentigen, aber indirekten, Tochter von PCCW, Cyber Exposures, rund
3,8 Mio. US-Dollar zahlen und 280 Millionen Aktien übergeben.

Hier noch ein bißchen etwas hintergründiges zum Deal von gestern:

(Infocast News) AWT Holdings (0401) yesterday announced to acquire 15.94% of the website pp.com held by Pacific Century CyberWorks (1186) (PCCW) and other three companies for a consideration of $67.79 million which will be settle by the issuance of 279 million new shares by the company and $30 million in cash.

The price of the new shares placed to the aforesaid vendors is $0.135 each, representing a discount of 14.6% to the price of the company before suspension. The shares newly issued represent 3.1% of the enlarged issued share capital of the company. PCCW will only hold 1.4% of AWT Holdings after this acquisition.

AWT Holdings will private place more than 222 million new shares by Kingston, Kingsway and e2-Capital, representing about 2.4% of the enlarged issued share capital of the company, at $0.135 per share for raising $27.3 million. $2.7 million form the internal resources will be used for the cash portion of the transaction.

David Leung, Managing Director of the company, said that the main purpose of the acquisition is to further expand internet and e-commerce businesses and to enhance the existing investment portfolios and logistics service. The acquisition is known as a long-term investment.

He added that no limit is set upon the period of share sales in the agreement.

AWT Holdings resumes trading today.

Hi Leute,
bezüglich der Marktlage in Asien speziell Japan, hier noch eine kleine Ergänzung (wurde bereits auch schonmal von J.M. beiläufig erwähnt).
Es ist in verschiedenen boards immer wieder die Rede von einer riesigen Postanleihe, die dieses Jahr fällig sein soll. Da mir bisher keiner meine Fragen bezüglich dieser fälligen Postanleihe beantwortet hat, habe ich mich selbst kundig gemacht.

Hier ist das Ergebnis:

Nach Angaben der Investmentgesellschaft MAINTRUST KAG, einem Unternehmen der Nomura-Gruppe, werden in diesem und im nächsten Jahr in Japan Postspargelder in Höhe von DM 1.800 Mrd. frei, Dies entspricht jeweils 10% des Bruttoinlandsproduktes. Die Gelder wurden 1990 und 1991 für zu 5,9% bis 6,3% angelegt (derzeit werden für die gleiche Anlage lediglich 0,2% bezahlt).

Die MAINTRUST KAG geht davon aus, daß die eine Hälfte der Gelder, also insgesamt DM 900 Mrd in den Konsum, die Anderen in Wertpapiere fließt und sich dadurch eine selbstragende Erholung der japanischen Wirtschaft einstellt.

Ich denke, daß ein erheblicher Teil auch in den Wachstumsmarkt China/HK fließen wird. Und bei dem Volumen, der in Japan frei wird, werden sicher auch die HK-Werte positiv beeinflußt.

die Info ist zwar allgemein zugänglich, aber bisher noch nicht gepostet worden. In zunehmenden Maße fließt Kapital auch in solche Fonds die Japan unberücksichtigt lassen.
So ist z.B. der Fonds A.L.S.A.-Asian-Tiger zu 33% in HK-Werten investiert. Davon sind China Telecom (2.) und PCCW (4.) die jeweils größten HK-Einzelwerte (Stand: 11.04.2000).

PCCW suspends trade pending announcement
HONG KONG, April 12 (Reuters) - Pacific Century CyberWorks, in talks with Australian telecoms giant Telstra Corp (Australia:TLS.AX - news), suspended trade in its shares before the opening bell on Wednesday pending an announcement in relation to a potential partnership.

PCCW issued a trade suspension statement through the Hong Kong stock exchange.

Earlier, PCCW said it was in talks with Australian telecom group Telstra Corp and would issue a detailed announcement later on Wednesday.

Telstra confirmed it was in advanced talks with the Hong Kong Internet company over regional alliances, adding any deal was conditional on PCCW`s completion of its multibillion U.S. dollar bid for telecom firm Cable & Wireless HKT .

(Infocast News) As quoted by HK Economic Journal, Linus Cheung, Chief Executive of C&W HKT (0008) , said that the cooperation between PCCW (1186) and Telstra will lead to a decrease in interest expenses of PCCW-HKT which will borrow money to invest in new projects after reduction in debts.

He said that the targets of PCCW-HKT`s acquisition include C&W`s stakes in Mobile One in Singapore and CTM Internet Services in Macau. He emphasized that the company has not discussed this intention with PCCW.

About new plan, he pointed out that after reduction in debts, PCCW-HKT will be more aggressive in expansion of submarine optical cables, mobile telecom development and e-commerce B2B business.


(Infocast News) As quoted by HK Economic Journal, Morgan Stanley`s report, Telstra`s financial advisor, pointed out that Telstra and PCCW will inject global optical cable assets, Intelsat`s stakes owned by both parties, PCCW`s stakes in Inmarsat, satellite project assets, IDD, Telstra UK and PCCW`s international fixed network assets into their 50:50 International Internet backbone network company.

Otherwise, regarding regional mobile phone assets, Telstra will inject assets including India and Sri Lanka mobile phone assets. In addition, the assets under discussion will also be injected into that new company.

(Infocast News) There are many bad news about Hikari Tsushin recently. A source close to Softbank stated that Softbank will keep a distant relationship with Hikari Tsushin and both parties will not go beyond co-investment in the same internet businesses, as quoted in South China Morning Post.

The report also quotes the speech of the spokesman of Pacific Century CyberWorks (1186), another partner of Hikari Tsushin, that the tumble of the share price of Hikari Tsushin will not undermine the relationship between PCCW and Hikari Tsushin. The spokesman also pointed out that the cooperation is non-exclusive and PCCW can do business with any company in any part of the world.

Masanori Suzuki, Director of Hikari Tsushin International in Hong Kong (2990), said that nothing has changed in relation to the strategic relationship among the company, Softbank and PCCW, and pointed out that Hikari Tsushin is in talks with PCCW and Softbank about cooperation. He added that the company has over US$120 million cash on hand for future acquisitions.

The report also quoted the sources close to Softbank that the whole Board of Hikari Tsushin wished for Chairman Yasumitsu Shigeta to resign as a non-executive director. He continued that Softbank is now looking for opportunities to enhance the cooperation with PCCW, and is in negotiation about several mega deals.

Pacific Century CyberWorks and Japan-based Softbank are trying to distance themselves from alliances with Hikari Tsushin amid the Japanese Internet giant`s change in fortunes and battered image.
A CyberWorks spokesman said yesterday the alliance with Hikari was non-binding and non-exclusive.

"We can still do business with any company in any sector in any part of the world," the spokesman said.

Nonetheless, CyberWorks would not undermine its relationship with Hikari because of the recent plunge in the Japanese company`s share price, she said.

Softbank aimed to maintain only a distant relationship with Hikari that would not go beyond co-investment in the same Internet businesses, a source close to the company said.

Analysts said CyberWorks appeared to be taking a wait-and-see approach to its relationship with Hikari.

The companies have not announced any co-operation plans since they forged their alliance in December by jointly taking over electronic component-manufacturer Golden Power International for HK$745.66 million.

Hikari`s share price has fallen more than 90 per cent from its peak a month ago.

The slide began last month amid negative press reports criticising Hikari`s business practices and allegations that president Yasumitsu Shigeta had been involved in illegal activities.

Hikari`s warning of a loss for the year to August 31 yesterday further damaged the company`s reputation, analysts said.

The investment community was annoyed by the company`s 11.6 billion yen (about HK$854.63 million) loss forecast, a sharp revision from an eight billion yen profit prediction last month, they said.

Masanori Suzuki, a director at Hikari Tsushin International in Hong Kong, said Hikari`s strategic relationships with partners such as Softbank and CyberWorks had not been affected.

"Nothing has changed," he said. "It`s a difficult time not only for Hikari, but for the entire Internet world. We will build more tighter alliances with new partners and reinforce relationships with existing partners."

Talks on business plans were still under way between Hikari and CyberWorks and Softbank, Mr Suzuki said, declining to disclose details.

Mr Suzuki also said Hikari would accelerate the pace of its expansion in Asia outside Japan through its Hong Kong-listed vehicle.

He said Hikari had committed US$40 million in six to seven Internet companies, and it would soon transfer these investments to Hikari Tsushin International.

Hikari Tsushin International had more than US$120 million cash on hand to finance future acquisitions, Mr Suzuki added.

The Softbank source said the firm`s board wished for Mr Shigeta to resign as a non-executive director.

Since last month, Softbank`s chief financial officer Yoshitaka Kitao has been lobbying to prevent Mr Shigeta from being re-elected at the upcoming meeting in June.

The source said: "It`s not only Kitao now. The entire board wants him out."

However, he indicated that Softbank was seeking to forge closer business ties with CyberWorks, saying that several "mega deals" between the companies were in the making.

Pacific Century CyberWorks chairman Richard Li Tzar-kai has a paper loss of about HK$7.35 billion from his investment in Japanese Internet company Hikari Tsushin.
Mr Li on February 11 agreed to a US$1 billion share-swap with Hikari Tsushin president Yasumitsu Shigeta to secure closer ties between the companies.

Under the arrangement, Mr Li exchanged 332.52 million of his CyberWorks shares, about 3.5 per cent of the company, for 510,200 Hikari Tsushin shares held by Mr Shigeta. Hikari Tsushin`s share price has plunged 92 per cent since Mr Li brought into the company. Yesterday in Tokyo, the counter fell 2,000 yen (about HK$147.35) to 17,800 yen.

The JV is mainly used to create multi-media Internet content for chinese over the world. Also, the JV has Internet platform which can put CR`s past and future programmes online.

Tycoon Li`s $54b nets UK phone deal

Hutchison Whampoa won a fiercely contested auction for Britain`s "third-generation" mobile phone licences yesterday, at a cost of £4.38 billion (HK$53.9 billion).
The deal marks the biggest overseas investment by Li Ka-shing`s expanding conglomerate.

After an auction that threw the spotlight on Hong Kong`s own third-generation licensing plans, Hutchison and Canadian partner Telesystem International Wireless said they would spend up to £5 billion more to develop the new technology. Hutchison has a 90.1 per cent share in the joint venture.

The technology will allow consumers to use phones to gain access to the Internet, send e-mails, use built-in cameras, and handle vast amounts of data. Hutchison managing director Canning Fok Kin-ning said the third-generation phones would revolutionise telecommunications.

"This will be the latest and most exciting thing in our lives," he said. "Instead of calling up your boy and asking him how he is, you will be able to call him up and ask him why he has not combed his hair."

Hutchison said the investment in Britain would mark the beginning of expansion throughout Europe, where other countries were also planning auctions.

The auction, in which five licences were offered, generated £22.5 billion for the British Government, which plans to use the money to cut its national debt.

The vast sum has put pressure on Hong Kong`s telecoms regulator, the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (Ofta), to auction its third-generation licences.

But Ofta, which is holding a two-month consultation on the issue, has said it favours handing out the licences for free based on what has been dubbed a "beauty contest" of current operators.

Asked whether the Government might change its stance, Ofta director-general Anthony Wong Sik-kei said he preferred a beauty contest but Ofta would wait until consultations ended on May 22 before making a decision.

"The auction [in Britain] went quite high . . . and high auction prices might not be in the best interests of consumers," Mr Wong said, suggesting the cost of the licence could be passed on in the form of higher charges.

But Stephen Brown, head of research at Kim Eng Securities, said high licence prices would not necessarily mean high prices for consumers. He said the Government should let the market decide the value of the licences.

"I really think you`re mad if you give these things away on the whim of a civil servant who has no better clue as to how the market is going to develop than you or I," he said.

"The best compromise is to auction and let the industry decide what they`re worth. They are the experts."

Hutchison is tipped to win one of the four to six licences expected to be issued by Ofta. Winners will be announced later this year.

Hutchison`s Mr Fok said he believed methods other than an auction would best suit the local environment. "Operators would incur higher operating costs by auctioning," he said. "The cost would still eventually be transferred to customers in Hong Kong."

Hutchison is cash rich after the disposal of its 44.5 per cent interest in UK mobile-phone operator Orange to Germany`s Mannesmann, which was later taken over by Vodafone AirTouch. It retains a 3.5 per cent stake.

Hutchison ended up with a five per cent stake in Vodafone, but earlier this year sold 1.5 per cent in a deal that raised £3.2 billion.

PCC, Commercial Radio to create multimedia content firm

PCC Investments, a subsidiary of PCC Holdings, and HCBC Enterprises subsidiary Commercial Radio Productions have partnered to develop a joint venture company called PCC Skyhorse Holdings. PCC Holdings is a subsidiary of Pacific Century CyberWorks. PCC Investments will hold a majority 60 percent equity stake in the new firm, while Commercial Radio owns the remaining 40 percent. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
PCC Skyhorse will develop online multimedia content aimed at the Chinese community, and take advantage of Commercial Radio’s exclusive right to broadcast its programmes on various Internet-based platforms. In addition, the company will create and expand Commercial Radio’s existing Internet initiatives, idclub.com, which boasts some 500,000 registered members, and crhk.com.hk. Content created by the joint venture would be distributed via PCC’s Network of the World (NOW), which will offer converged services such as interactive digital video and Web access. NOW is scheduled to rollout in July, and is targeting a potential audience of 130 million households in Asia.

“Our joint venture with Commercial Radio is one more piece in our strategy to develop compelling Internet content and to support its broadband distribution,” said CyberWorks chairman Richard Li. There is no plan or timeframe for Skyhorse to list on any stock exchange.

On a general level, PCC plans to invest up to US$1.5 billion over the next five years in developing content, and target to broadcast some 5,000 hours of content annually. Li said that while content is currently being created out of London, England production studios because of their ability to do so faster than in Hong Kong, the content will eventually be exported and localized for Hong Kong audiences and the rest of Asia.

Another similar content deal was made last year by CyberWorks and International Management Group, whereby its programming arm, Trans World International, will provide PCC with sports, lifestyle, business and technology content for NOW.

Whenever Li holds a press conference, regardless of the announcement made, questions were raised regarding the Cable & Wireless HKT merge, such as rumours of another competing bid by Singapore Telecom and the HKT deal even falling through.

“I’m not aware of any credible bid, I would have been notified by C&W, and as far as I know, they haven’t been informed of anything. I can only tell you what I know or am allowed to say. It’s because of a three-letter word – SFC,” Li said.

Habe heute diese Beiträge zum ersten mal gelesen.Finde die Idee an sich gut.Meine Frage:
Wieso sprechen die Initiatoren und einige ihrer Anhänger von ungeheuerlichen Vorwürfen,wenn jemand sein Mißtrauen darüber äussert ,ob das eine legale Aktion ist.
Werden in Deutschland nicht genug Leute um ihr Geld geprellt durch irgendwelche Scharlatane? -an der Haustür und im Internet!
Man läuft doch nicht blind irgendwelchen Aufrufen hinterher!
Gesundes Misstrauen ist immer angebracht - und wer sich da beleidigt fühlt sollte solche Aktionen nicht starten.
Im übrigen gibt es auch andernorts Spendenaktionen in Deutschland für Krebskranke.
Die Berliner Taxifahrer spenden zum Beispiel alljährlich für die krebskranken Kinder im Klinikum Berlin-Buch.

Hownew.com races ahead of PCCW to offer broadband multimedia content

As the race to offer high-speed Net access heats up, another one is brewing, particularly one between Web portals aiming to provide premium content that is more than text-based and composed of static images. In other words, sites that offer multimedia-heavy content only broadband Net connections can play back with smooth consistency are expected to crop up everywhere.
While some Web sites in Hong Kong offer a sprinkle of live video and audio here and there, none really provide pure multimedia content. No doubt the most anticipated portal offering broadband content is Pacific Century CyberWorks’ (PCCW) Network of the World (NOW), scheduled to rollout sometime over the summer. But out of the gates first is the just launched Hownew.com, an interactive multimedia site focusing on delivering Chinese content to people’s browsers.

Hownow.com broadcasts TV and radio programs from ten different categories, including news, entertainment, health, education, and arts and culture. Content is selected from various sources, including CCTV and Chinese Radio International, and repackaged for broadcasting on Hownew.com. Initially, Hownew.com will have over 100 hundred hours of programming, and by adding 15-20 hours of archived content a day, hope to attain 8,000 hours by the end of this year. Hownew.com and its strategic partner Softbank China Venture Capital will pump US$26 million into developing the Web site over the course of the year.

“Watching a program on Hownew.com will soon be similar to watching a program on network or cable TV. However, we will have features that TV does not,” said Andy Kwok, Hownew.com’s chief financial officer. “For example, traditional program broadcasting is confined by a pre-set schedule. With Internet broadcasting, audiences can view content of their choice without geographical or time constraints.” Kwok said that Hownew.com would also feature interactive information exchange, e-commerce and personalization.

Hownew.com’s content is delivered via UUNet Hong Kong’s UUcast multicasting transmission technology, which sends a single stream of live data to several many recipients at the same time. UUNet claims smoother multimedia playback with UUcast.

While it will take longer for broadband access to reach China and some other Asian countries, they too are heading toward high-speed Net access. Being rolled out earlier than PCCW’s NOW service helps Hownew.com gain a competitive advantage over an industry heavyweight. But as NOW’s release looms closer, Hownew.com must ramp up broadband content and market the product well in face of NOW and any upcoming competitors in what is essentially the next-generation Web browsing. HK PCCW, Applix in e-business partnership

HONG KONG, May 10 (Reuters) - Applix Inc said on Wednesday Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd`s (PCCW) <1186.HK> Pacific Century Systems Ltd (PCS) had joined its Applix Leadership Alliance Partner (ALAP) programme to provide Web-based customer relationship management solutions.

"As an ALAP partner, PCS adds a broad base of experience providing technology solutions, professional services and systems integration to the clients," Applix said in a statement.

U.S.-based Applix develops, markets and supports Web-based, business software products.

Hong Kong`s PCS provides communications solutions.

Applix shares were slightly higher at 6-1/8 in early Wednesday Nasdaq trade. PCCW shares shed HK$0.40 or 2.86 percent to close at HK$13.60 in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
