Siemens: PG erhält Großaufträge

Wie die Siemens AG (ISIN: DE0007236101, Dax Aktien-Detail ) heute mitteilte, hat ihr Bereich Power Generation (PG) einen Großauftrag zum Bau eines Gasturbinenkraftwerk in Muara Tawar am Rande der indonesischen Hauptstadt Jakarta erhalten. Das Auftragsvolumen beträgt rund 230 Mio. EUR. Auftraggeber ist der indonesische Energieversorger PLN. Die Inbetriebnahme ist für April 2004 geplant.
Außerdem erhielt PG den Zuschlag über die Lieferung mehrerer Gasturbinen für ein Gas- und Dampfturbinen (GUD)-Kraftwerk in Ägypten mit einem Auftragswert von rund 150 Mio. EUR für den Energieversorger Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC). Die Inbetriebnahme ist für Mitte 2005 geplant.
Der Bereich PG von Siemens erwirtschaftete im Jahr 2002 bei einem Umsatz von 9,4 Mrd. EUR ein Bereichsergebnis von 1,582 Mio. EUR.
Heute gibt die Siemens-Aktie deutlich nach und notiert aktuell mit -1,89 % bei 40,47 EUR.

America Movil selects Siemens for GSM/EDGE contract

Brazil, Jun 09, 2003 (BNamericas.com via COMTEX) -- Mexico`s America Movil (NYSE: AMX) has selected German supplier Siemens (NYSE: SI) to set up a GSM/EDGE network for the mobile companies operating under the umbrella of its Brazilian subsidiary Telecom Americas, Siemens said in a statement.

Siemens is America Movil`s third contracted EDGE supplier in Latin America to date. The operator contracted Finland`s Nokia (NYSE: NOK) for Colombia and Ecuador AMX in February. Also, Sweden`s Ericsson (NYSE: ERICY) serves America Movil`s GSM/GPRS/EDGE network infrastructure requirements for Telcel in Mexico, and signed a similar GSM/EDGE agreement with Telecom Americas in May this year.

Signing on multiple suppliers shows that America Movil is taking advantage of its bargaining power among suppliers, independent telecoms consultant Jose Otero told BNamericas. In the case of Siemens, the Telecom Americas contract will "strengthen its position in the region and improves its profile for upcoming network contracts," Otero said, adding that Ecuador`s Telecsa is the most important contract for the upcoming months. The Telecom Americas contract is Siemens` second in Latin America, after its deal with Colombia Movil, signed earlier in the year, he noted.

The release did not give the value of the contract. However, local press reported last week that Telecom Americas plans to invest US$500mn to launch GSM services, to be split between Siemens and Ericsson. America Movil and Ericsson announced a similar GSM/EDGE agreement on May 7 of this year.

EDGE technology supports data speed of 384kbps, allowing for easy transmission of multimedia clips and e-mails. To date no operator in the Americas has launched EDGE services.

Telecom Americas is the third company to order EDGE from Siemens, and the first in Latin America. "Our goal is to be among the three strongest GSM suppliers in Latin America. This order will take us one step closer to that goal," said Joe Kaeser, a director for Siemens mobile communications business.

The Telecom Americas consortium includes five Band B cellular operators, plus three PCS concessions purchased in November 2002. Telecom Americas is expected to unify its operations under one brand name and launch PCS services before year-end.

According to Otero, Telecom Americas needs to launch operations in Brazil`s corporate headquarters Sao Paulo as quickly as possible, and also unify its five brands. Otero added the operator will face the hottest competition in Rio de Janeiro, where it is facing "incredible pressure" from three strong competitors: Telemar`s Oi, Telecom Italia Mobile and the newly branded Vivo.

Telecom Americas` Band B operators are ATL, for Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo states; Americel, for Minas Gerais; Claro Digital, for Rio Grande do Sul; Tess, for the interior of Sao Paulo state; and BSE, for Brazil`s northeastern states. The consortium`s PCS licenses cover metropolitan Sao Paulo and the states of Parana, Santa Catarina, Bahia and Sergipe.
