Vestas order for 44 wind turbines in the USA

Vestas has received an order for 44 wind turbines to be delivered to a wind power project in
the USA. The order comprises the supply and commissioning of the turbines and a five-year
service and maintenance agreement. Delivery of the turbines is scheduled to begin in the
first half of 2009 with commissioning planned for the second half of 2010.
At the customer’s request, details about project ownership, exact location, etc. cannot be
disclosed.
“The USA boasts excellent wind resources, and Vestas is pleased to be playing an active
role in the utilisation of its wind potential. Not only will the 44 wind turbines be a source of
clean and renewable energy, they will also contribute to the creation of new local jobs,” says
Jens Søby, President of Vestas Americas A/S.
In 2007, over 5,200 MW of new wind generating capacity was put in place in the USA,
representing a growth of 45 per cent on the previous year. In the first quarter of 2008, a total
of 1,400 MW of new wind power capacity worth approximately USD 3bn was installed
according to the American Wind Energy Association.

Rendite mit Ökostrom

Politik und Unternehmen setzen Zeichen. Der Bundestag wechselt zu Ökostrom, und auch die Deutsche Telekom deckt ihren Strombedarf demnächst zu hundert Prozent aus erneuerbaren Energien. Gleichzeitig steigt die Zahl der Privathaushalte, die sich für Ökostrom-Produkte entscheiden, zunehmend an. Die Stromanbieter reagieren: Einer forsa-Umfrage zu Folge wollen mehr als die Hälfte der befragten Führungskräfte großer deutscher Energieversorger bis 2010 vermehrt in Ökostrom investieren.

Geplant sind vor allem Investitionen in Solarenergie und Biomasse. Im Bereich der Windenergie ist hingegen das Wachstum in Deutschland laut dem zuständigen Bundesverband schon seit Jahren leicht gebremst. Ein möglicher Grund sind Befürchtungen über auslaufende Subventionen. Derweil füllen sich die Orderbücher der Unternehmen mit Aufträgen aus dem Ausland. So erwirtschafte die Branche im vergangenen Jahr drei Viertel ihres Gesamtumsatzes von 7,6 Milliarden Euro im Ausland.

Gerade das Beispiel Windenergie zeigt, dass Anleger bei der Aktienauswahl international ausgerichtete Unternehmen im Auge behalten sollten. Ein Global Player bei Windenergie ist der dänische Anlagenbauer Vestas Wind Systems. Jede vierte weltweit errichtete Windkraftanlage kommt aus Dänemark. Das beflügelt die Aktie; der Kurs versiebenfachte sich in den vergangenen drei Jahren.

Zwar mögen politische Entscheidungen über Subventionen die Aktienentwicklung von Unternehmen kurzfristig hemmen. Doch können Anleger im globalen Markt für regenerative Energien in allen Branchen auf starkes Wachstum hoffen. Besonders in Schwellenländern besteht enormes Potenzial. Ehrgeizig verspricht China über die nächsten 15 Jahre ein Förderprogramm mit einem Volumen von 150 Milliarden Euro. Die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate planen für 50.000 Einwohner die erste CO2-neutrale Stadt der Welt.

Anleger können den bekannten Spruch „Think global – act local“ auf ganz besondere Weise interpretieren: Einerseits lokal handeln, und in den eigenen vier Wänden auf Ökostrom umsteigen. Andererseits bei der Geldanlage global denken, und mit einem breit gestreuten Investment in einen Top-Ökofonds vom Megatrend profitieren. Ökostrom aus der Steckdose ist somit nicht nur ein Kostenfaktor, sondern kann auch Rendite bringen.

Vestas Wind Systems Kursziel 100 Euro

Frankfurt (aktiencheck.de AG) - Die Experten von "Prior Global" sehen für die Aktie von Vestas Wind Systems (ISIN DK0010268606 / WKN 913769) ein Kursziel von 100 Euro.

Angesichts steigender Strompreise würden Windkraftanlagen immer mehr Anhänger finden. Besonders "off-shore"-Anlagen seien attraktiv. Diese Anlagen würden ihren Dienst auf dem offenen Meer verrichten, wo die Rotoren wesentlich geringeren Windturbulenzen ausgesetzt seien, als an Land. So komme man mit kürzeren Türmen aus und die Turbinen würden langsamer verschleißen. Während in Europa schon mehr als 20 solcher Anlagen existieren würden, bestehe in den USA noch enormer Nachholbedarf, da es bisher nicht eine einzige Anlage dieser Art gebe.

Studien zufolge könnte im Jahr 2030 etwa ein Fünftel des Energiebedarfs der USA aus Windkraft gedeckt werden. Und obwohl die Konkurrenz aus Asien härter werde, habe Vestas mit einem Weltmarktanteil von 23% gute Chancen ein großes Stück des Kuchens abzubekommen.

Auch wenn Vestas mit steigenden Materialkosten zu kämpfen habe, sei es dem Management bisher gelungen die Kosten an die Kunden weiterzugeben. Mit einer Eigenkapitalquote von 36% sei die Firmengruppe solide aufgestellt. So peile man nach 4,8 Mrd. Euro Umsatz in 2007, in diesem Jahr die 6 Mrd. Euro-Grenze an. Die Marge solle von 9 auf 12% ausgebaut werden und der Umsatzsprung werde von einer Gewinnexplosion begleitet.

Vestas Wind Systems to Add 200 Workers in Portland

Jun. 4--Vestas Wind Systems passed up Oregon for a $25 million research center, but state officials expect the Danish company to add more than 200 Portland workers.

Vestas -- the world's top turbine maker, with U.S. headquarters in Portland -- already employs more than 300 here. The company is riding rapid expansion in the wind-power industry, propelled by ballooning costs of conventional energy and government mandates for alternatives.

The company also announced an $817 million sale of 303 turbines this week to a Midwest utility that aims to buy as many more in coming years.

Oregon made the short list for Vestas' research center, said Jillian Schoene, a spokeswoman for Gov. Ted Kulongoski, as state officials negotiated with company representatives "up until the last minute."

"We had active conversations with them the whole time," Schoene said.

Oregon lost out to Houston on the research center, in part for lack of universities graduating engineers.

But Oregon will continue to grow as a wind-power hub, potentially quadrupling wind-energy production by 2015, said Bruce Laird, a state investment recruiter. He expects the state to jump by then from its current 1,200 megawatts of installed wind capacity to as much as 5,000 megawatts.

"This is bringing jobs and wealth to rural Oregon," Laird said. "It's delivering power at grid-competitive rates today."

In Houston, economic-development officials acknowledged promising a $2.5 million research grant to help attract the Vestas center, which will employ about 150. The grant will help recruit researchers from around the country, said Tracye McDaniel, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Greater Houston Partnership.

But the clincher may have been an agreement with three universities -- the University of Houston, Texas A&M and the University of Texas in Austin -- to participate in the Vestas center. Those names were impossible for Oregon -- and Colorado, another contender -- to match.

"We have an extremely large engineering work force," McDaniel said. Vestas' move could help extend Houston's reign as a world energy capital, she said.

Vestas managers could not be reached for comment Tuesday as they attended a national wind-energy conference in Houston. Lone Mortensen, communications manager for Portland-based Vestas-American Wind Technology Inc., was unable to confirm the number or type of workers to be hired in Portland.

Alliant Energy Corp. placed the $817 million turbine order that Vestas announced this week. Alliant, a utility holding company based in Madison, Wis., will buy enough Vestas turbines to produce 500 megawatts of power in Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota.

That's enough to power about 125,000 homes, said Ryan Stensland, an Alliant spokesman. He said Alliant planned to vastly expand wind generation.

"It's a tight market for wind turbines," Stensland said. "These manufacturers are working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, trying to keep up with the orders."

The massive turbines -- measuring 397 feet from the ground to the tip of an upright blade -- will be delivered during the next three years. They will help Alliant diversify from coal, nuclear energy and natural gas.

High demand for wind power results from growing acknowledgement across the political spectrum that global warming is real and dangerous, said Chris Taylor, director of development in Portland for wind-farm developer Horizon Wind Energy, one of Vestas' top customers.

Costs of conventional energy are rising. Utilities are reluctant to build coal plants because of emissions, public opposition and the likelihood of tighter regulations and carbon taxes.

"We're not going to build another dam on the Columbia," Taylor said. "There really aren't any options in the conventional energy sources that look very attractive."

Yet Oregon and Washington populations, and demand for energy, continue to grow, he said. So Horizon continues building Northwest wind farms and looks to Vestas for turbines.

"We'll be adding employees in Portland," Taylor said, "but not on the scale of Vestas."

Vestas to deliver wind turbines to Brazil

Vestas has received an order for a total of 92 units of the V82-1.65MW wind turbine for the Alegria project in Brazil.


The order comprises supply of the turbines, a VestasOnline Business SCADA system as well as a five-year service agreement. The order has been placed by New Energy Options (NEO). The wind power plant will be located in the State of Rio Grande do Norte in the north-eastern part of Brazil.
