U.K. consumer confidence cratered 11 points in July to 51 in the Nationwide Building Society sentiment index. It was the biggest drop in at least 4 years and the lowest level since the survey began in May 2004. Why are UK consumers so dour? This sound familiar?

What else did the Nationwide survey find? Nothing good:
2/3 said the current economic situation is bad
85% predicted it will be the same or worse in six months' time
42% of people predicted there will be fewer jobs available in six months' time
Some economists believe the recession has already hit the U.K. (Bloomberg):
"The U.K. economy is already in a recession or close to a recession,'' former Bank of England policy maker Sushil Wadhwani said in an interview with BBC Radio 4 today in London. "All forward-looking data for activity suggest a weakening..."

Danke. Ja, die habe ich und behalte ich. Habe fest an die geglaubt und daran, daß jede gute Technologie irgendwann auch Investoren findet.
Übrigens steigen auch OTIV (gute news), FPU, CRY und sogar SANM (letztere ist sicher langfristig nicht interessant) und BLDP sieht auch besser aus. Daß ich auch IO, YORW und RHT langfristig gut finde, habe ich ja schon geschrieben.

pontius, ich meinte mit meiner Aussage daher werden wir wohl auch kaum noch solche rapiden Kursanstiege wie in den 80ern und 90ern sehen. auch nicht die nächsten 20 jahre sondern vielleicht die nächsten 5-10 Jahre, da und diese Finanzkrise noch ein Weilchen verfolgen wird und auf das Wirtschaftswachstum drückt.
Generell bin ich absolut positiv, vor allem wenn man den Threadtitel zu Grunde legt. danke für den schönen Artikel! Vielleicht befinden wir uns ja gerade in der Situation des Jahres 1975 aus dem einen Diagramm.
Danke Investival, für Deine Einschätzung zu ITW und FAST. FAST war schon immer teuer, hat sich eigentlich die höhere Bewertung nicht erst mit der Zeit "verdient". Jedenfalls können sie bei der noch rel kleinen Unternehmensgröße noch sehr lange auf Wachstumspfad bleiben. Mal sehen...mit den Insiderverkäufen ist das immer so ne sache, würde das nicht zu hoch bewerten.
- Im (US-)midcap-Sektor werde ich eher die Werte präferieren, die erst einen jungen uptrend aufweisen bzw. einen solchen erwarten lassen.
Tja, wenn man die so leicht finden könnte mit einer Trefferquote von über 50%. Ich fühle mich da nicht dazu berufen...aber das Thema hatten wir ja schon gestern...

Schön gestreut über Branchen, auch einige US-Aktien drin, die Du anfangs praktisch gar nicht hattest. Gut! damit kann man zuversichtlich in die Zukunft schauen. Die beiden Autoaktien können wir Dir nicht ausreden, gelle?

Allerdings stellt sich immer auch die Frage nach der relativen Krisenresistenz (kann/will man nicht in alle investieren).
Und im Zweifel dann für den "Größeren"; zumal, hat der ein auch relativ satteres cashflow-Polster.
An WWG stört mich die zuletzt hohe Schuldenaufnahme (insgesamt aber immer noch unkritisch; sehr saubere Bilanz bisher), offenbar um höhere Aktienrückkäufe zu finanzieren. Dazu die ersten 2 Quartale ohnehin schon negativer FCF.
GGG sieht wie ITW im CF deutlich besser aus, aber auch hier zT. schuldenfinanzierte Aktienrückkäufe bei zuletzt stark zunehmnder Verschuldung.

BP to invest $90 mil in cellulosic ethanol venture with Verenium
London (Platts)--6Aug2008
BP has agreed to invest $90 million over the next 18 months in a new
venture with US-based cellulosic ethanol producer Verenium, the companies said
Wednesday.
The companies plan to speed up the development of cellulosic ethanol and
hope to build production facilities in the US and potentially elsewhere, they
said in a joint statement.
Verenium has already started commissioning a demonstration-scale
cellulosic ethanol plant in Jennings, Louisiana, capable of producing 1.4
million gal/year.
The company uses proprietary technology to develop ethanol from non-food
biomass to make biofuels which are more economical and sustainable than the
'first generation' biofuels currently in use.
The initial investment will include a payment by BP to Verenium of $45
million for access to its technology, production facilities and expertise.
Beyond this initial phase, the companies said they expected to negotiate
a more formal joint venture to speed up the deployment of the technology in
commercial-scale production facilities.
"We believe energy crops like sugar cane, miscanthus and energy cane are
the best feedstocks to deliver economic, sustainable and scaleable biofuels to
the world," president of BP Biofuels North America Sue Ellerbusch said in the
statement. "This deal puts us at the front of the cellulosic biofuels game."
