Alle Achtung, Berenberg hat die Coverage von Magforce aufgenommen. Hat gestern schon für knappe 1 Mio. Euro Tagesumsatz gesorgt. Wenn man bedenkt welche Durchschlagskraft so ein großes Haus wie Berenberg für so eine kleine Aktie hat, und dass die meisten institutionellen Investoren die Studie erstmal lesen müssen, sollte das weiter deutlich steigende Kurse die nächsten Tage und Wochen bedeuten.
Das sind die Highlights der Studie:
MagForce AG has developed an innovative cancer treatment with a focus on brain and prostate cancer. With new management, new funding and a new commercialisation strategy, we think MagForce is poised for success. Our risk-adjusted base-case valuation is €8.25 per share (27% upside), while our blue-sky valuation is c€17.50 (169% upside). We therefore initiate with a Buy rating and an €8.25 price target.
A novel approach to cancer: MagForce’s NanoTherm technology is a heat-based treatment for solid tumours. The basic principle involves the injection of iron nanoparticles into the tumour followed by the use of a targeted magnetic field to heat these particles. The resulting heat either destroys the cancerous cells or sensitises them to radiotherapy. NanoTherm therapy is already approved in Europe for all brain cancers.
Improving and expanding in brain cancer: NanoTherm was approved in brain cancer in Europe in 2010, but so far has not been commercially successful. Despite achieving a median overall survival of 23 months versus the historical comparator of 15 months in an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma multiforme, clinical acceptance has been impeded by the lack of a randomised comparator arm. The company is running just such a trial in Europe, due to read out in 2017 alongside a comparable US trial. Un-risk-adjusted, we think the European brain cancer opportunity is worth €11 a share, with the US opportunity worth another €2.40 per share.
Prostate offers further upside: Current treatment options for intermediate and advanced prostate cancer tend to have serious side-effects. MagForce is seeking to position its NanoTherm therapy in an unoccupied space in the treatment paradigm, after active monitoring but before active therapy, in order to limit the need for more invasive treatment. We view prostate as a higher-risk opportunity and include nothing in our base case valuation. However, on a fully de-risked basis, we value the US prostate opportunity at €4 per share.
Funding, management and strategy now in place: Former Fresenius Medical Care CEO Dr Ben Lipps joined in September 2013 and devised a new strategic plan. With new clinical trial programmes planned and fully funded, we now believe everything is in place for commercial success.
Significant upside potential: We use a DCF-based sum-of-the-parts analysis to value MagForce. Applying appropriate risk discounts to the various opportunities, we derive a valuation and price target of €8.25 per share – offering 27% upside to last night’s close. Under a fully de-risked blue-sky scenario, we derive a valuation of c€17.50 per share, or 169% above last night’s close.
