NXP Announces Revolutionary New Resonant LLC GreenChip Platform With Industry Leading Low-Load Efficiency and Ease-of-Design
New TEA1916 and TEA1995 Platform Integrates Patented Cycle-by-Cycle Technology to Enable Industry Leading Ease-of-Design With All the Advantages of Resonant LLC
NXP Semiconductors 1 hour ago GlobeNewswire
EINDHOVEN, Netherlands, March 16, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NXPI) today announced its new GreenChip power solution, the TEA1916+TEA1995 platform -- an innovative and easy-to-design new Resonant LLC solution targeted for desktop PC/AiO, gaming consoles, notebook adapters and large panel TVs.
Building on NXP's success as the market leader in GreenChip power ICs, the new TEA1916+TEA1995 Platform offers very high efficiency over the entire load range, especially at light loads of 10-30% -- easily meeting energy efficiency regulations including Energy Star v6, CoC tier 2, 80+ platinum and EuP Iot6. The TEA1916 additionally features low no-load power below 75mW, meeting and exceeding requirements of Energy STAR, DoE, CoC tier 2, etc. The LLC resonant topology also makes it easier to meet Common Mode Noise requirements and 200% peak power requirements when compared to a flyback topology.
Power supplies built on Resonant LLC topologies are often considered difficult to design and expensive. The TEA1916+TEA1995 Platform reverses this trend. Based on NXP's novel cycle-by-cycle architecture, the TEA1916+TEA1995 Platform provides an easy-to-design power supply that comes closer to flyback with all the added advantages of Resonant LLC. The energy transfer from primary side to the output is controlled every switching cycle, offering a linear relationship between the control parameter and the required output power. The new cycle-by-cycle technology also enables a more accurate burst mode and reduced audible noise.
"At NXP, we constantly strive to innovate. Our next generation GreenChip solution -- the TEA1916+TEA1995 Platform -- marks another significant step toward providing high efficiency energy savings combined with market leading ease-of-design," said Marcel van Roosmalen, Power Solutions Segment Manager, NXP Semiconductors. "The global drive for energy efficiency underscores the importance of driving low-load efficiency performance that meets and exceeds regulations. With a simple and easy-to-use design offering all the advantages of Resonant LLC, we are making cost-effective, high efficiency power supplies more accessible around the globe."
NXP will highlight its new wireless charging/LLC solutions at booth #1101 during APEC, the Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition, held from March 15-19 in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.

NXP +5.2%, Freescale +4.8%; Needham starts NXP at Strong Buy
Mar 13 2015, 10:22 ET | About: NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) | By: Eric Jhonsa, SA News Editor [Contact this editor with comments or a news tip]
Declaring NXP's (NASDAQ:NXPI) $16.7B cash/stock merger with Freescale (NYSE:FSL) will create "a powerhouse in the semiconductor industry," Needham's Rajvindra Gill has launched coverage on NXP with a Strong Buy rating and $140 target.
Gill notes NXP/Freescale will be the world's biggest automotive chip and microcontroller supplier (as previously noted by the companies), with respective shares of 13% and 15%. He adds the post-merger company will be a top player in the growing mobile payments and IoT chip markets.
NXP/Freescale are expected to see 2016 EPS of $7.44, and 2017 EPS of $9.00. $2.3B/year in free cash flow is considered possible.
Also: BofA/Merrill's Vivek Arya is out with a bullish note: He thinks 2018 EPS of $8.40 is possible, with 10%-47% upside via cost synergies, lower interest expenses (as Freescale's high-interest debt gets refinanced), lower taxes, and potential buybacks as the company deleverages.
Arya observes Chinese regulatory approval remains a hurdle, and that NXP/Freescale's combined 90%+ base station power amplifier share is a concern, but also notes NXP plans to divest its base station amplifier ops, and has plenty of Chinese experience (previous).
Both NXP and Freescale have surged to new highs.

Swatch adds tech features to watches, positive on 2015
Reuters 3 hrs ago
More
Swatch Group will start offering watches with near field communication (NFC) chips within two months, chief executive Nick Hayek said at a news conference on the company's annual results which were released last month.
Apple's move into watches would open up a market where Swatch was already well positioned to compete, he said.
The Swiss company's strategy appears to revolve around including individual tech features in different models rather than going head to head with Apple, the world's most valuable firm, to create all-in-one smartwatches combining many functions.
"We are the world champions of integrating smart functions into a watch," Hayek said. "We don't want to produce a mini mobile phone on your wrist. Others can do that."
At 1600 GMT, Swatch shares were up 2.7 percent at 432.1 Swiss francs.
Apple's watch will go on sale in nine countries starting in April, priced from $349 for the smaller model and $549 for the standard version, although a high-end "Edition" watch will sell for at least $10,000.
"It's a fantastic opportunity for us. It is opening the market. Especially in the U.S., many people are not wearing watches any more. Somebody is opening this up. Let Apple do the work. It's fine. It's good. I congratulate them."
Both firms' strategies could co-exist and succeed, Hayek said, before adding a dig at the bigger rival: "Upgrading software every year, that's not our business."
For its near-field chips, which will cost around 2 francs ($2) per watch, Swatch has teamed up with China UnionPay, the Chinese credit card association, as well as a Swiss bank and a major credit card company.
The credit card company, described as an Olympics sponsor, is likely to be Visa, a long-time backer of the event. Visa was not immediately available to comment.
Swatch is also launching a range of sports-themed "Swatch Touch" smartwatches which will be able to "buddy up" with a smartphone via a Bluetooth connection.
The first model will retail at 135 francs, about twice the cost of a regular Swatch watch with an NFC chip.
