Saudi Arabia considering investing in 'Made in Italy' fund
MILAN, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Italy and Saudi Arabia are in talks about a potential Saudi investment in Rome's new strategic fund, Italy's Industry Minister Adolfo Urso said on Monday, as the two signed a deal to forge closer economic relations, particularly in energy.

The "Made in Italy" fund, which was approved in May, will have an initial endowment of 700 million euros ($756 million) in 2023 and an additional 300 million next year in state cash.

Sources have previously told Reuters that Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is courting sovereign wealth funds to increase the fund's firepower. The scheme would support Italian companies operating in key supply chains, while also aiming to boost procurement and reuse of "critical raw materials".

Equinor Opens World's Largest Floating Wind Farm in Norway
Norwegian energy firm Equinor and its partners inaugurated the world's largest floating offshore wind farm on August 23, whose output will supply nearby oil and gas platforms and cut their greenhouse gas emissions.

The Hywind Tampen wind farm, where Equinor is partnering with other oil firms including OMV, Vaar Energi, majority-owned by ENI, started producing power in November last year, with full output reached earlier this month.

Its 88 megawatts of capacity will cover around 35% of annual power demand for five platforms at the Snorre and Gullfaks oil and gas fields in the North Sea, about 140 km (87 miles) off Norway's west coast.

"We have a clear ambition in Norway with respect to CO2 emissions, to reduce them (by) 50% (by) 2030 ... To do that we need power," Kjetil Hove, Equinor's head of exploration and production in Norway, told Reuters onboard the platform.

"It is also about building a new industry that is going to be important to create more power in Norway."

The Hywind Tampen wind farm is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 200,000 tonnes annually, or 0.4% of Norway's total CO2 emissions in 2022.

Drilling rig arrives in Lebanon to begin offshore exploration
Zitat von Oginvest: BEIRUT, Aug 16 (Reuters) - A drilling rig arrived in Lebanon on Wednesday to begin offshore oil and gas exploration later this month, French energy group TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA) said.

The start of drilling offshore Lebanon follows a landmark U.S.-brokered agreement last year that set a maritime border between Lebanese and Israeli waters for the first time.

Lebanon hopes gas and oil discoveries will help it to reverse a crippling economic crisis that has cost the local currency more than 98% of its value, eroded the country's foreign reserves and caused rolling blackouts across towns and cities.

TotalEnergies leads a consortium on the offshore project, known as Block 9, which includes Italian oil group ENI (ENI.MI) and state-owned QatarEnergy.

"The arrival of the equipment marks an important step in the preparation of the drilling of the exploration well in Block 9, which will begin towards the end of August 2023," TotalEnergies said in a statement.

How would a strike at Australian LNG facilities affect gas markets?

Zitat von Oginvest: LONDON, Aug 10 (Reuters) - Chevron (CVX.N) and Woodside Energy Group (WDS.AX) said on Thursday they are holding talks with unions to avert strikes at Australian liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities that together account for around 10% of global production.

Concerns over industrial action at Woodside's North West Shelf offshore gas platforms and Chevron's Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG plants sent European gas prices to a nearly two-month high on Wednesday on fears the move would fuel competition between Asian and European buyers for cargoes.

      WHY DOES AUSTRALIAN LNG MATTER?

Australia has kept its crown as the world’s largest LNG producer, exporting 80.9 million metric tons (MT) in 2022 compared to 79 MT in 2021, according to data from International Gas Union.

The country's share of the global LNG market is estimated at 20.2%.

      WHO BUYS AUSTRALIAN LNG?

Roughly three quarters of Australia's LNG exports go to four Asian buyers: China, Japan, South Korea and India, mostly under long-term contracts, and almost none to Europe.

Consultancy Rystad Energy estimates that China and Japan combined purchased about 26 million metric tons of Australian LNG, more than 60% of the country’s exports, in the first half of 2023.

HOW MANY LNG FACILITIES ARE THERE IN AUSTRALIA?

Italy's Eni wants to reduce oil exposure with asset sales
ROME, July 4 (Reuters) - Italy's Eni (ENI.MI) aims to reduce its exposure to oil in favour of natural gas and non-fossil fuels in part through asset sales, the energy group's CEO Claudio Descalzi said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the Rome presentation of a report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Descalzi added he could not comment on potential oil asset sales in the near term.

Eni plans to generate 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion) of net proceeds from the balance between asset sales and acquisitions between 2023 and 2026, the company said in its business plan.

Last month, Eni announced the sale of some of its oil assets in Congo, just a few days after saying it had agreed to buy Neptune Energy.

Descalzi said the acquisition would reduce Eni's average carbon intensity, since Neptune is focused on natural gas. The deal also provides an opportunity to expand the carbon capture and storage business of Eni's Vaar business in northern Europe.

Eni seeks oil slots in Gdansk for Schwedt refinery after EU sanctions
WARSAW, June 30 (Reuters) - Eni is in talks to secure slots in the oil terminal in the Polish port of Gdansk to receive oil it processes in PCK Schwedt refinery in Germany, in which the Italian energy group owns a minority stake.

Schwedt, which has traditionally supplied 90% of the fuel used in Germany's capital Berlin, was operating at 50-60% capacity this spring after Germany stopped oil supplies from Russia due to the Ukraine war.

"A contract is being negotiated that could allow crude oil to be supplied to the Schwedt refinery from the Gdansk terminal," an Eni spokesperson said in response to Reuters questions.

      ...

Eni, which holds 8.33% in Schwedt, has been relying on supplies on Russian crude at the refinery before the sanctions, the spokesperson said. Shell, with 37.5% stake in the refinery, is among Naftoport clients already.

Earlier this month, Kazakh state oil firm KazMunayGaz and Rosneft Deutschland signed a deal on monthly supplies of 100,000 tons of oil to Germany's Schwedt refinery until the end of 2023.

UPDATE 2-Eni, Vaar agree to buy Neptune Energy in $4.9 bln deal
MILAN, June 23 (Reuters) - Italy's Eni and its Norwegian unit Vaar have agreed to buy private-equity backed Neptune Energy in a deal valuing the assets of the gas and oil producer at $4.9 billion including debt, the two groups said on Friday.

The acquisition fits the Italian group's plan to increase natural gas to 60% of its hydrocarbon production by 2030 and is expected to increase its earnings immediately, Eni said in a statement.

The acquisition, which is expected to be completed at the start of next year, is one of the biggest oil and gas deals in Europe in years.

The deal is expected to generate $500 million of industrial synergies, the group added.

      ...
Descalzi also said that the acquisition would boost the outlook for the gas and LNG division, which last year was one of the drivers of the group's record earnings, and the potential for share buybacks to reward investors.

It will also add four billion cubic metres of gas supply for European costumers, Eni CEO said.

Under the agreement, Eni will acquire Neptune's entire portfolio other than its operations in Germany and Norway.

The German operations will be carved out prior to the Eni transaction and the Norwegian operations will be acquired by Vaar directly from Neptune in a separate deal, the two groups said in a statement.

The part of Neptune that will go to Eni will have a value of around $2.6 billion including $500 million in net debt, while the Neptune Norway business will have an enterprise value of around $2.3 billion, the groups said.

Neptune's other operations are in Britain, the Netherlands, Algeria, Indonesia and elsewhere.
