Antwort auf Beitrag Nr.: 49.645.721 von money84penny85 am 26.04.15 14:48:54The consensus forecasts from Wall St. analysts indicate that as part of Apple’s upcoming report this week, there will have been between 45 and 55 million iPhones sold in the last quarter. Anything at the low end of these predictions exposes Apple’s shares to a significant sell off. Anything well above and closer to 60 million should support a continued rise in the share price.

Investors have focused on the Watch as Apple’s next critical product. Sales of the Watch might hit five million in the first month, if Apple has created a product which is as good as many early press reports say. Since Tim Cook became CEO, Apple has depended almost exclusively on the iPhone for surging sales. Nothing shows that more than the quarter which ended on December 27. iPhone unit sales hit 74.4 million which drove $51.2 billion of Apple’s quarterly total of $74.6 billion for the period. The ratio has to remain, or improve.

For Apple, the stakes for strong iPhone sales remains high. Shares have risen 18% this year, and continue to be a primary engine of the NASDAQ’s rise to its record level. Apple’s shares have traded close to a peak as well, around $130 recently which has increased its market cap to $760 billion

Fortune reported that Apple’s success will have to be affected by strong sales from its huge China partner, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL), which is the world’s largest wireless carrier, and Brazil sales. No one outside Apple has any real knowledge about these factors.

The last time the market become anxious about Apple’s performance, shares tumbled from $100 in September 2012 to $55 in March 2013. Tim Cook has gained enough admiration among investors which has given him much support from both the tech and investment communities. He could get a pass should the quarter be a bit weak. He will not get one if the results come in well below expectations. Sixty million iPhone sales leaves him in a safe position, at least until the next quarter.

Got your Apple Watch? Here's how to use it

      By ANICK JESDANUN

      Technology Apr. 27, 2015 - 07:00AM JST

      NEW YORK —

Apple Watches have arrived to the first group of people who had ordered one two weeks ago.

Those who haven’t bought one yet will likely face a wait. Apple’s retail stores won’t have them, with the company taking orders over the Internet only — for delivery as late as July for some models.

Although a handful of other stores are carrying them, quantities are limited — and you have to make it to the store. Maxfield in Los Angeles is carrying the watch, along with boutique and department stores in Paris, London, Tokyo and Berlin and authorized resellers in China and Japan.

Whenever you get yours, get ready for a new way of interacting with your digital life. A better way? I’ll need more time with the watch to say.

For now, I can offer some tips on using it:

      SETTING UP

Update your iPhone’s software before starting. You need at least iOS 8.2. You also need the password for your Apple ID account.

Select your language on the watch and open the Apple Watch app on the iPhone. Hit “Start Pairing” on both devices. Here’s where it gets fun: Use your iPhone camera to photograph the watch animation, which has an embedded code so the phone knows to connect to that specific watch. Follow the prompts on the phone app. At the screen for installing apps, choose “Install All” to get watch versions of apps already on your phone.

It took about 12 minutes for all my apps, contacts and calendar entries to sync. Use that time to watch video tutorials on your phone.

You can adjust watch settings by going to “My Watch” in the phone app. Don’t spend too much time at first. See how the watch fits in with your lifestyle. Initially, notifications on the watch will match those on the phone. If that gets annoying, customize the settings so that some notifications go to the phone only. For email, you can designate specific contacts as VIPs and have only their messages reach your watch.

      MOTION CONTROL

The watch borrows many gestures and controls from the phone, but that isn’t always practical with a smaller screen. Getting used to the changes will take time.

      A few tips:

      — Lightly press the dial, known as the Digital Crown, to toggle between the watch face and the menu of apps. It’s also typically how you exit apps. Double press to get your most recently used app. A hard press gets you Siri, Apple’s voice assistant. Turn the dial to zoom, scroll or flip through menus. My instinct was to turn the dial like a knob, but it’s easier to slide your finger over it, like rolling the wheel on a toy car.

      — The other button gives you quick access to friends — favorites from your phone’s contact list and what you add under “Friends” in the iPhone’s watch app. You can call or message — or send doodles and vibrations if your friend has an Apple Watch. Double click this button to use Apple Pay at retail stores.

      — Swipe down to get notifications. Swipe up to get Glances — highlights such as weather, calendar and stock quotes. Swipe left and right to go through the various Glances. The one on the far left is the settings, such as muting.

      — Interact with icons and buttons by lightly tapping on the screen. A hard press, known as a Force Touch, will activate other functions. It changes from app to app, and the best way to learn is to try it and see what it does. Force Touch the watch face to choose other designs and options.

      — For a screenshot, press both side buttons simultaneously— lightly, or it won’t work. Images appear in your phone’s Photos app.

      READYING APPS

One of the Glances is for the Activity app. Go through the prompts so the watch can nag you when you’ve been sitting too long.

The watch uses the GPS sensor on your phone to measure distance during workouts. Without the phone, it counts steps, which tend to be inaccurate. However, if you walk or run with your phone a few times, the watch will calibrate those steps for better accuracy offline.

You can listen to music or view photos stored on the device. Go to the phone’s Apple Watch app to choose playlists and albums to sync.

Go to “Passbook & Apple Pay” on the phone app to enable mobile payments at retail stores. You can then pay without the phone with you.

To add apps, visit the phone’s Apple Watch app.

Apple Inc.AAPL +0.47% is scheduled to report results for its fiscal second quarter ended March 28 after the market closes on Monday. Here’s what you need to know.

EARNINGS FORECAST: Earnings of $2.16 a share is the consensus of analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters, compared with a split-adjusted $1.66 a year earlier. Apple performed a 7-for-1 stock split in June. The company hasn’t provided earnings guidance for the quarter but in January said it expects gross margin to range between 38.5% and 39.5%.

REVENUE FORECAST: Revenue of $56.1 billion is forecast, compared with $45.6 billion reported a year earlier. In January, Apple forecast quarterly revenue of $52 billion to $55 billion.

      WHAT TO WATCH:

DIALING UP IPHONE: For all of Apple’s new businesses (Apple Watch, Apple Pay and a forthcoming Apple television service), the iPhone is still the straw that stirs the drink. Apple sold a staggering 74.5 million iPhones in the December quarter, helping to fuel the most profitable quarter ever for any publicly traded company. Now we’ll see what the iPhone can do for an encore. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus delivered the big-screen smartphone experience that many consumers wanted from Apple. Analysts polled by Fortune Magazine forecast that Apple sold 56.8 million iPhones during the March quarter, 30% more than a year earlier.

CASH-BACK PLAN: It’s easy to forget that Apple didn’t begin returning cash to shareholders until 2012. Over the past three years, Apple has paid out $103 billion through share buybacks and dividends, part of a plan to return $130 billion in cash by the end of 2015. Apple has said it plans to update its plans on Monday, presumably increasing the size and duration of the program. A year ago, Apple increased the size of its cash return plans by 30% from an earlier target of $100 billion. As of the end of December, Apple’s cash pile totaled $178 billion.

WATCH FOR THIS: Apple’s first all-new hardware product in five years started shipping on Friday after accepting pre-orders for two weeks. Chief Executive Tim Cook could provide some details about initial Watch orders. So far, Apple’s supplies of the Watch are running short. According to Apple’s website, those looking to order a Watch now will have to wait until June to receive the device. Apple has already said it won’t break out sales of the Watch, afraid that doing so will give competitors useful information about the new product category.

Strong iPhone Sales Will Power Apple’s Encore
Company to report quarterly earnings on Monday, backed by demand for popular smartphone

Talk about a tough act to follow. When Apple Inc. last reported earnings in January, it posted a quarterly net income of $18 billion—the most profitable quarter of any publicly traded company ever.

Apple’s encore comes on Monday, when it reports quarterly results for the three months ended March 28. The numbers won’t surpass the prior quarter, when Apple rolled out a pair of big-screen iPhones during the peak holiday shopping season to consumers hungry for larger Apple phones.

Nonetheless, analysts expect strong sales of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to underpin another strong quarter. The iPhone is the company’s flagship product—selling the most units and commanding the highest profit margins.

The slowing growth of the smartphone market is pressuring prices lower and intensifying competition among handset manufacturers, but Apple is staying above the fray. With its latest iPhones, Apple is pulling off a feat rarely seen in any industry—gaining market share even as it raises prices.

Credit Suisse analyst Kulbinder Garcha said Apple is retaining 90% of iPhone users, and winning customers away from high-end smartphones running Google Inc. ’s Android software. He estimates that 400 million iPhones were in use at the end of 2014.

As a result, Mr. Garcha said the seasonal drop-off in iPhone sales in the March quarter won’t be as sharp as in the past. He estimates that Apple sold 60 million iPhones during the quarter, down from 74.5 million in the December quarter, but 37% higher than the 43.7 million sold in the same period a year earlier.

The new iPhones made their debut in September, so “it’s fairly early in the upgrade cycle,” said Mr. Garcha.

Analysts estimate that Apple generated earnings per share of $2.16 on revenue of $56.1 billion in the March quarter, according to Thomson Reuters. In the year-ago period, Apple reported earnings of $1.66 a share, adjusting for a subsequent stock split, on revenue of $45.6 billion.

Apple has a problem that many others would love to have: It can’t spend money fast enough to prevent its cash from piling up. It had $178 billion in cash at the end of December, up from $155 billion three months earlier.

Executives are expected to update investors on plans to return some of that cash to shareholders. Through December, Apple had returned $103 billion of a promised $130 billion through buybacks and dividends. It said it would disclose a revised plan in April.

Monday’s results won't include sales of the Apple Watch, which the company started shipping on Friday. Apple started accepting preorders for the device two weeks ago and the supplies quickly ran short. Apple’s website says new orders won’t ship until June.

The Watch is the first all-new piece of Apple hardware since the iPad in 2010. It is an important litmus test of the company’s ability to continue to innovate, but its financial impact is expected to be minimal, compared with the iPhone.
