Geely Might Buy Lotus
China's largest independent carmaker will continue to expand, and after Volvo and The London Taxi Company, Lotus can be their next purchase.Chairman Li, the head of Geely doesn't seem to be an impulse buyer. When the moment was right to buy a carmaker in the West, he went for the one with a reputation for safety, backed by a very strong engineering team. The next thing you know, the Volvo XC90 was born, with the production staying in Sweden.
Then, Geely set out to re-invent the London Cab, designing a brand new, lightweight aluminum structure and wrapping it in a composite body. Not so secretly, the TX5's rear-wheel drive platform was developed also to serve as a base for a whole range of zero-emission commercial vehicles in the future, all federalized for Europe.
Unsurprisingly, when the time came to create an all-new brand for the Chinese, American and European youngsters in love with their mobile phones, Geely used Volvo's engineering talent and an international team of designers as well. Only time will tell how successful can Lynk & Co become given its unique business model, but the compact platform underpinning its products will make it into compact Volvos soon enough for you to test out.
And the next for Geely? During a chat with someone close to the fire, I was told that Geely will continue to purchase other automotive companies, and Lotus would make a great deal of sense for an acquisition. After all, what Lotus needs to survive is a new lightweight platform, airbags and a bit of petty cash to spend on bits of carbon fiber. Current owner Proton doesn't seem to have the resources to help them out, while Geely certainly does. And with one foot already set in England, the Chinese seem to be ready for their next move.

Volvo Cars Upgrades Full-Year Guidance
Swedish car maker Volvo Car Corp. on Thursday upgraded its full-year profit guidance, buoyed by strong third-quarter sales of its SUVs in China and the U.S., and said that it expects record sales in 2016.“With nine months of the year completed, I can state with confidence that Volvo Cars is on track for another record year in terms of sales and that operating profit for the year is expected to improve substantially,” said Chief Executive Håkan Samuelsson.
It had previously guided for an “improvement” in 2016 profit compared with last year.
The company reported a third-quarter operating profit of 2.07 billion Swedish kronor ($232.3 million), up from 1.28 billion kronor last year, as revenue rose 14% to 41.1 billion kronor. The operating margin rose to 5% from 3.5% in the third quarter of 2015.
The auto maker, owned by China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., saw robust sales in major markets of both life-cycle models, such as the XC60 SUV and V40 hatchback, as well as its new XC90 SUV. The company sold 38,000 XC60 SUVs, 23,000 V40s and 22,000 XC90 SUVs in the quarter, bringing total retail sales in the period to 122,766, a 7.8% increase on the year.
Sales in China and the U.S. both grew over 20% in the period, it added.

Facelift For The Geely Borui GC9 In China
The Geely Borui GC9 will receive a small facelift, making the big sedan a bit more beautiful still. It is mainly a bumper-lift with new front and rear bumpers, and it gets new alloys that look very good. The inner part of the lights changed as well with new lenses in the area closest to the grille. The LED strips in the bumper have been deleted. Compare:
The current Borui GC9. Price starts at 119.800 yuan and ends at 229.800 yuan. Engines: 162hp 2.4, 163hp 1.8 turbo, and a 275hp 3.5 V6.
The 2.4 will continue unchanged in the facelifted car, the 1.8 turbo will get 21 more horses for 183hp. Whether the V6 will return is unsure at the moment, we will keep an eye on that… If the V6 has indeed been deleted price range for the facelifted car will start around 120.000 and end around 180.000 yuan.
Currently there is only one V6 model available which costs 229.800 yuan, whereas the most expensive 1.8 turbo costs 176.800 yuan. That is a big difference and the V6 has been a slow seller. For that money people can go for a BMW 3Li, a Cadillac ATS-L, or a Volvo S60L.
The facelifted Borui GC9, with or without the V6, will be launched on the Chinese car market in Q1 2017.
The new rear end with slightly different light covers and a new bumper with a shiny strip on it. Pipe tips didn’t change, they are still a tad too small and located a bit too low.
Current.

Uber Orders 100 Self-Driving Vehicles From Volvo
A month after Uber said its self-driving Volvos were still under development, the ride-hailing giant Uber has already ordered 100 self-driving vehicles from the Swedish company, Volvo said on Wednesday. The news came as an 18-wheeler self-driving Volvo trailer drove from Fort Collins, Colorado, to Colorado Springs, bearing 50,000 cans of Budweiser beer. The Volvo truck, equipped with cameras and sensors, was owned by Otto, a self-driving truck company acquired by Uber recently.
Uber inked a deal with Volvo in August to purchase 100 cars by the end of the year, with the goal of outfitting them with the ride-hail company's autonomous hardware.
The cars are built on Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture, the same platform as its XC90, S90, and V90 cars.
Uber's small fleet of self-driving Ford Fusion cars has been shepherding a select number of passengers around Pittsburgh since early September, but so far Uber has declined to discuss the progress.
The cars have "Uber" stenciled on the sides and an array of cameras and sensors on the roof like a jaunty hat.

Ommm...:D
