... für mich sieht die Entwicklung seit dem Jahr 2000 eher nach einem langfristigen Abwärtstrend aus, der noch nicht überwunden wurde.

      Zu den Verkaufszahlen:

      PS4 Sales

      PS4

Sony stated that there were more than one million preorders for the system by August 2013 – months before the PS4′s launch date.

According to IGN, the PS4 managed to sell more than 1 million units on its launch day in North America.

Sony Computer Entertainment America boss Jack Tretton said the following:

“We can pre-sell every unit we can manufacture, and the good news is that production yields have been phenomenal. We’re going to work very hard to make sure that every consumer that wants one gets one.”

By December 3rd more than 2.1 million PS4s were sold, according to a “PS4 Global Sales Update” by Andrew House, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment.

Strong UK sales - In the UK the PS4 outsold the Xbox One in 2013 (with 530,000 sales versus 364,000 sales respectively).

Sony Computer Entertainment President Andrew House made an announcement stating that Sony plans on selling at least 5 million PS4s by March 2014.

PS4 To Outsell The Wii U Globally By Spring

The PS4 has set sales records all over the world now, it’s fast on track to eventually being the best selling console of all time, as for now though it’s already taken the award for the fastest selling console of all time. But according to Michael Pachter, the PS4 could be about to become the best selling games console of this generation too, if sales figures are to continue the way they are now.

The best selling console of this generation is currently Nintendo’s Wii U, it had a 12 month start over both the PS4 and Xbox One, however its sales have not been impressive by any standards. Only selling 5 million units in its time since its release it has performed significantly worse than its predecessor. In only six weeks in, the PS4 has already sold 3.4 million units globally, this means it’s only 1.6 million behind the Wii U at this moment in time.

Pachter claims that if sales continue to go in the direction that they are now for the PS4, the console will end up beating Nintendo in the race to be the best selling console of this generation. This could all occur as soon as Spring this year, this is what Pachter had to say about the sales of the PS4, “I am pretty sure the Wii U will still be ahead in March, but PS4 is going to pass it in 2014 at some point. PS4 will only be at 5-5.5 million by March, Wii U should be a hair ahead of that. Probably April or May.”

This prediction of April or May is also very well founded as well. March see’s a whole load of AAA games releasing for the PS4, these include Infamous: Second Son, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Thief, Basement Crawl and Planetside 2. All of these titles will be reasons for gamers to make the jump from theirs PS3′s or Xbox 360′s over to the next generation of game consoles, around this time we should expect to see a jump in hardware sales too, and no doubt the PS4 will be at the forefront of this.

The Wii U doesn’t just have to worry about the PS4 either, Microsoft’s Xbox One is selling extremely well at the moment too, and has well over 2 million units sold in the Untied States alone at this moment in time. It looks like the Xbox One will be the console to beat the Wii U into third and final place, just how long this will take to happen is anyones guess, but it will probably be sooner rather than later.

Did you recently buy a PS4? If you did make sure you check out Amazon’s PS4 Launch Centre, you never know what you may of missed out on when you bought your console.

What do you make of this revelation? True or false? Let us know in the comments section below.

Sony to cut more jobs at failing electronic equipment division

      Jan 03, 2014

Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony Corp. is looking to slash more jobs after its mainstream electronics equipment division continues to fail in producing profits. The company has not set a target number of jobs to be cut for this latest downsizing action, but according to Sony, the movement will affect five plants operated by Sony EMCS Corp. Sony EMCS produces digital cameras, TV sets and computers at plants in Aichi Prefecture, Nagano Prefecture, Shizuoka Prefecture, and Chiba Prefecture, employing around 5,000 people.

“Because there is insufficient demand in the electronic equipment sector to support the current work force, there is a need to reduce the sector to the appropriate level,” a Sony executive said. Initially, Sony will ask and look for employees willing to take early retirement from the period of Jan. 6 until the end of March, targeting employees 40 and older with at least 10 years of work experience with the company. Employees who avail of the early retirement clause will additional benefits, and Sony will even introduce them to another company in a bid to start them on new jobs.

Starting in the quarter of July to September in 2011, Sony’s electronic equipment sector started recording losses. This is very significant, as the division accounts for about 60 percent of the group’s total sales. In a bid to push for profit, Sony slashed about 10,000 jobs both in Japan and abroad in 2012, but the move only resulted in a temporary lift. Sony President and CEO Kazuo Hirai had pledged to turn the sector into a profitable one in the current fiscal year. The division recorded a profit in the April to June quarter this year, but all in all, it still recorded losses on the whole due in to sluggish sales.
