Geely Auto’s green bond to clean up London’s air

Investors from some of the world’s most polluted cities are backing London’s efforts to clean up its air after Geely Auto, maker of London’s black cabs, raised $400m to finance development of an electric taxi.

The Chinese car group, which bought the group out of administration in 2013, this week sold $400m in so-called “green bonds”, an increasingly popular form of financing whose proceeds must be used for environmentally friendly projects.

The deal, the first of its kind on a global scale, will help Geely develop the TX5, a hybrid battery-powered car with an aluminium body to be built in Coventry, the one-time centre of the British car industry.
Geely will begin producing the cars next year, in time for stricter limits on London taxi emissions from 2018, when the city plans to introduce an ultra-low emissions zone. Sadiq Khan, the newly elected mayor, is also considering how best to introduce a “toxicity” fee to improve air quality.
China and India are home to many of the world’s most polluted cities and Asian investors took almost 90 per cent of Geely’s bonds. Chinese groups are for the first time leading green bond issuance around the world, spurred on by government.
Last September, Chinese policymakers committed to building a green finance system. Green bonds were a key element of the plan, along with subsidies and guarantees to make the deals more attractive. Development of green finance was also established as a goal in China’s 13th Five-Year Plan, which covers the years to 2020.
Global green bond issuance reached $17bn in the first three months of this year — half from China — according to Moody’s Investors Service. The rating agency has predicted as much as $70bn in green bonds could be sold this year, which would represent a two-thirds jump from last year’s record issuance.
Banks have been big green borrowers, raising funds to invest in as-yet unspecified environmental projects. Shanghai Pudong Development Bank has raised $5bn this year while China Industrial Bank borrowed $1.5bn.
Companies are also finding new uses for the proceeds. Apple designated a $1.5bn slice of a $12bn bond sale in February as a green bond — the largest sale in the US to date.
Geely’s dollar-denominated five-year bond carried a coupon of 2.75 per cent, helped by a credit guarantee from Bank of China. Orders totalled almost six times the paper on offer. Banks took just over half of the deal with a further third going to fund managers. Sovereign wealth funds, private banks and insurers took the rest.
Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Bank of China, Barclays, and Société Générale managed Geely’s bond sale.

Volvo will mit einer neuen Plattform-Architektur durchstarten. Besonderheit: Sie ist nicht nur für Diesel und Benziner gedacht.

Nachdem Volvo gerade sein Oberhaus mit XC90, S90 und V90 neu aufgestellt hat und die Mittelklasse mit den 60er Modellen für nächstes Jahr in den Startlöchern steht, gibt das Unternehmen jetzt schon einen Ausblick auf die kommende Kompaktfamilie. Diese setzt auf einer neu entwickelten kompakten Modular-Architektur (CMA) auf.

?? Was ist das Besondere an der neuen Volvo-Plattform CMA?
Ihre Flexibilität unterscheidet CMA von Plattformen anderer Hersteller. Plattformen zu entwickeln ist natürlich kein Hexenwerk. Wir können aber nicht nur verschiedene Karosserievarianten in unterschiedlichen Abmessungen verwirklichen, sondern haben auch von Beginn an wie bei unserer SPA-Plattform für die 90- und 60er Modelle verschiedene Antriebsvarianten berücksichtigt. So sind nicht nur konventionelle Motoren vorgesehen, auch Plug-in-Hybride und rein batterieelektrische Fahrzeuge sind möglich. Wo andere Hersteller eine eigene Plattform für E-Autos schaffen müssen, greifen wir auf unsere Standardplattform zurück. Dadurch werden wir einen Kostenvorteil haben, der sich wiederum auf die Verkaufszahlen von unseren elektrischen Fahrzeugen positiv auswirken wird. Damit kommen wir unserem Ziel näher, bis 2025 eine Million elektrifizierte Fahrzeuge weltweit verkaufen zu wollen.

?? Volvo hat CMA in Zusammenarbeit mit der chinesischen Konzernmutter Geely entwickelt. Wieviel Volvo-Knowhow steckt darin?
Wo Volvo drauf steht, ist auch Volvo drin. Wir waren bei der Entwicklung federführend. Die Werte unserer Marke wie Sicherheit, Umweltfreundlichkeit und schickes Design sind zu 100 Prozent verwirklicht worden. Jeder Volvo, ob er in Europa, den USA oder in China verkauft wird, erfüllt unsere Standards. Natürlich profitieren wir auch von der Zusammenarbeit. Da Geely die Plattformarchitektur auch für seine eigenen Premiumfahrzeuge nutzt, können wir höhere Stückzahlen generieren und damit die Kosten senken.

?? Sind denn neben der Volvo 40er-Modelle auch noch weitere, kleinere Baureihen wie zum Beispiel ein XC30 oder C30 auf Basis von CMA möglich?
Erst einmal hat unsere neue 40er-Baureihe Priorität. Diese wird weltweit verkauft werden, wir werden also auch wieder in diesem Segment auf dem US-Markt antreten. Unsere Kompaktmodelle werden maßgeblich dafür sorgen, dass wir unsere Verkaufsziele auf 800.000 Einheiten jährlich steigern können. Einen XC30 oder C30 möchte ich allerdings nicht ausschließen.

"Geely targets at JV brands to build its own star products

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 24th)– During an interview at 2016 China Automotive Innovation Summit on May 18th, An Conghui, CEO of Jiejiang Geely Holding Group, said that the company’s further rapid growth couldn’t be achieved in isolation with R&D and that’s the reason why they will invest more than 8 billion yuan in this field alone in 2016.

In recent years, Geely really stands out from other Chinese domestic carmakers as a dark horse. According the statistics released on May 5th by the company, the sales of Geely stood at 44,590 units in this April, up by 12% against last April. In the same period, China saw an overall increase of 6.3% in its auto sales nationwide and that of 8.7% in the sales of domestic passenger vehicles.

However, An Conghui still believed that domestic brands, including Geely, are still facing many challenges, even against a backdrop that the company outsold market in this April.

To start with, An Conghui confessed that none of its Geely Vision, Emgrand and GC7 could compete with other powerful star products with international influence, such as Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic, and what Geely needs are its very own star products and the way to achieve that is by product iterating.

Supporting that, Corolla has come to its 10th generation and totaled 20 million sales, while Sonata has also come to its 9th and still sold very well.

To align with these best-selling star products, Geely will invest more than 8 billion yuan in R&D this year and introduce various star models in different segments including sedans and SUVs.

According to its plan, Geely will achieve that by leveraging on its 4 platforms, including GMA for compact cars, FE for Emgrand, New Emgrand and Emgrand GS, KC for GC7 and NL for SUV NL3 Boyue, to introduce more models, including MPVs.

An Conghui also underlined that there is no such thing as a shortcut for domestic carmaker to get brand recognition. They actually have to earn it by providing products with great quality, and to achieve that, every links of a product cycle matters, including design, manufacturing, purchase and sales. So Chinese domestic brands have got to target at excellent JV brands so as to compete with them in an increasingly competitive market."

Geely (00175) says growth picked up strongly

Morgan Stanley cited Geely Automobile Holdings
(00175), which attended MS's Annual China Summit, indicating that tax cuts could continue
to drive a mini up-tick in auto market growth in 2016.
For Geely specifically, growth picked up from 2% YoY in 1Q to 12% YoY in April. In May,
growth is tracking above 20% YoY for volume and sales. Margins are also trending well at
around 18%.
The company believes it can beat the 600k unit target it set for 2016 earlier.
The company believes it is on the right side of the new model launch cycle; it plans 4-5
new models every year from 2016 to 2018. The utilization rate was 80% in 2015 and is above
85% in 2016.

Hier mal wieder etwas neues von Proton Cars dem Joint Venture Partner von Geely. Es sieht so aus als suche man einen Käufer/Partner. Auf der Australischen Proton Seite http://www.proton.com.au/kann man sehen das sie nur drei Modelle anbieten wobei zwei meines Wissen auf Geely Fahrzeugen/Platfomren basieren.


Das dritte Modell ist eine MPV/Van, das würde auch zu den obigen Bericht von Fire72 passen in den MPV Markt mit einem neuen Modell einzusteigen. "...to introduce more models, including MPVs."

Hallo ellexi,
ich will mich jetzt nicht zu weit aus dem Fenster hängen.
Aber Geely hat doch kein Joint Venture mit Proton.
Das war vor 2 oder 3 Jahren mal im Gespräch.
Mehr aber auch nicht.
Lasse mich aber gerne eines besseren belehren.
