Summer is the perfect opportunity to reconnect with friends and family over food and drink. As social occasions continue to evolve, and people choose to be more mindful about what and how they drink, Diageo has curated the new cocktail recipe book: ‘serve & sip – a free, downloadable guide for cocktail enthusiasts and aspiring mixologists, looking to host the perfect summer celebrations, in a responsible way.

Through ‘serve & sip’, Diageo offers a selection of traditional, low alcohol, and non-alcoholic versions of classic recipes to help Canadians make decisions for any social occasion. In addition to recipes, the book includes insights to cocktail making basics - such as glassware, ice, and syrups - and a handy guide on how to be a stand-out responsible host, helping elevate ordinary drinks into extraordinary experiences.

“What was once seen as a trend toward low and non-alcohol cocktails, is now clearly here to stay. This is reflected in the ‘serve & sip’ cocktail book, giving us the opportunity for creative, inclusive and responsible hosting,” said Ana Fitzgibbons, Diageo's Director of Alcohol in Society. “At Diageo we are really excited about this space and are committed to reinventing the cocktail culture to offer more options while promoting responsible drinking.”

These are some of the hosting tips included in the cocktail recipe book to encourage responsible celebrations and moderation this summer season (and every other):

    • Substitute cocktail spirits with non-alcohol alternatives or reduce the pour measurement of the featured spirit to make a low-alcohol version of a traditional cocktail.
    • Always offer water or non-alcoholic beverages to help guests space their drinks and hydrate.
    • Provide guests with plenty of food options – it’s a great way to show hospitality, and food is essential to slowdown alcohol absorption for those who choose to drink.
    • As a host, be sure to offer activities that don’t center around alcohol, like karaoke or board games – or challenge people to take the DRINKiQ quiz to see who can bust the most myths around the effects of alcohol on the body.

To inspire people to make traditional and mindful cocktails for the summer, Diageo has created a series of videos:

Diageo is committed to changing the way the world drinks for the better by promoting moderation and addressing the harmful use of alcohol. This is a core pillar of Diageo’s 10-year sustainability plan, Society 2030: Spirit of Progress, which includes an ambition to reach one billion people with messages of moderation by 2030.
