MEDIA RELEASE
Electronics contract manufacturer International Contract
Manufacturing Limited (ICM) today reported sales revenue of $22.7
million for the six months ended December 31, 1999, an increase of
68% over the previous corresponding period.
Over the period, Net Profit After Tax and before abnormals was
$750,000, which is in line with the forecast included in the recently
issued prospectus for the 1-for-4 Renounceable rights issue.
Malcolm Spry, Chairman of ICM said: "These results underwrite the
strong growth potential of ICM over the next two years. The contract
manufacturing industry worldwide continues to grow aggressively and
ICM is well positioned to exploit the global potential of its
business. During this period, ICM has made investments in
infrastructure to cope with the substantial future growth in the
business and had to manage increased components cost as well as short
supplies. ICM is on track to increase revenue by more than 150 per
cent for the full financial year 1999-2000, to $69.3 million.
In the year to 30 June 2001 sales revenue is forecast to increase by
a further 128 per cent to $158.2 million, excluding any new contracts
that ICM may secure over the next 18 months. In line with this
increase in sales, earnings before tax, interest and abnormals are
expected to rise from $3.1 million in June 1999 to $8.1 million in
June 2001. Earnings per share are forecast to grow from 14.9 cents
for the 1999 financial year to 24.6 cents for the 2001 financial
year."
ICM declared today a three cents per share full franked interim
dividend payable on 7 April, 2000. This follows on from the six
cents per share fully franked dividend paid in November 1999.
Shareholders will be able to take advantage of ICM`s Dividend
Reinvestment Plan, and shares will be offered at 5% discount in
relation to the market price. New shares issued under the ICM 1-for-4
Renounceable rights issue will not be entitled to the interim
dividend (refer separate release).
"Proven dividend paying ability, together with short to medium term
growth potential, have made ICM a good investment for our expanding
shareholder base," said Mr Spry.
ICM Managing Director Carlos Piteira said that the company had made
significant progress on the international growth strategies outlined
in its 1998-99 annual report.
"During the first half of this financial year we made our first
international OEM acquisition in Scotland, which places us in an
excellent position to serve our international customer base," said Mr
Piteira. "We are now also the only contract manufacturer in Australia
with operations in three states. Our growth momentum has been
building since day one, but with our launch onto the international
stage, our business has changed considerably."
In November 1999, ICM made its largest and most important deal to
date, when it entered into an exclusive agreement with Ingenico
Fortronic, the UK arm of the Ingenico Group, to manufacture EFTPOS
terminals. The agreement involved the acquisition of Ingenico Group`s
manufacturing plant in Scotland, providing an excellent foothold for
ICM in Europe. Ingenico Group of France is the largest EFTPOS
terminal producer in the world. This agreement is expected to
contribute revenue of $11.3 million and $27.4 million for the company
in the 2000 and 2001 financial years respectively.
In January 2000, ICM also announced a major outsourcing agreement
with Voxson for supply of GSM phones. These phones will be produced
at the new, state of the art, ICM factory in Brisbane, and will make
a significant contribution to the growth in revenue. The company`s
involvement with this exciting industry will provide further
opportunities for expansion.
In the next 18 months ICM will continue deploying it`s strategy of
international expansion, and supporting its multinational client base
in key regions of the globe.
