Argenta Oil & Gas Inc. has finalized the drilling contracts with Ensign Argentina SA to provide the rig operations to drill and complete the appraisal program in the company's Loma El Divisadero block (80-per-cent working interest (WI)) located in the Neuquen basin, Argentina. A total of two wells will be financed by joint venture partner Unitec Energy SA and it is anticipated that the first well in the program will spud by the end of April to a total depth of 3,750 feet. The goal of the appraisal program is to define the development program (oil, gas or both) from the Chorreado member (Huitrin formation).
Ricardo Pescara, vice-president of operations, commented:
"Each well will take approximately 16 days to drill, complete and test. Location and roads are being finalized and will be ready to spud the first well by the last week of April."

FWIW, here's how I figure it.
We have a penny stock in a stable country, no debt, not much cash (hey, remember the "no debt"), 3 oil fields, 2 fields with completed 3D seismic, and 1 or 2 JVs. We will be drilling "free" of charge within the next 10 days for "only" but a 20% stake in Loma.
The press release says "A total of two wells will be funded by joint venture partner Unitec Energy SA and it is anticipated that the first well in the program will spud by the end of April to a total depth of 3,750 feet." So we will know the results by the 4th of July. So Unitec looked at the 3D seismic (not 2D, but 3D) seismic, and decided to bet $3M for a 20% stake in Loma, with an option to pick up another 30% for several more million.
Then we have JV #2 that the management is working on finalizing.
I like our odds, fwiw.

ARGENTA SPUDS LEDO- E4 WELL
Argenta Oil & Gas Inc. has started drilling its first of two appraisal wells in Loma El Divisadero block. This well (LEDO e4) is expected to reach a total depth of 3,750 feet. The goal of the appraisal program is to define the development program (oil, gas or both) from the Chorreado member (Huitrin formation).
Claudio Larotonda, president and chief executive officer, commented:

CALGARY -- The chorus of voices calling for a rebound in the natural gas market got a little louder this week, as another research firm detailed why it thinks gas is on the way up and investors need to make their move.
Calgary's Tristone Capital Inc. published a lengthy report telling investors to pour cash into gas companies, while maintaining its US$6.75/mcf price forecast on the New York Mercantile Exchange, where commodities are traded.
There is an oversupply of natural gas in North America right now, but Tristone notes the rate of production growth is beginning to decline.
"We expect U.S. supply will peak in the next two months and hit an inflection point of sequential monthly declines beginning in the month of August," the report, released Thursday, said. "The drop in supply will begin to accelerate as we enter the heating season, with our expectation that we are down nearly 4 [billion cubic feet per day] year-over-year by the start of winter and the supply shortfall grows to 5.5 bcf/day lower year-over-year by late [in the second quarter of 2010]."
The report echoes analysis the folks at CIBC World Markets published in April.
"We do see the potential for an improvement in natural gas prices by the end of 2009 given drilling activity in Canada and across the U.S. declining sharply since last fall. We expect this reduction in activity to induce a material supply response by the end of [the second half of 2009] (of up to 5 bcf/d), which should support improving prices within the winter of 2009/2010," the April 29th report said.
John Zahary, chief executive of Harvest Energy Trust, agreed that return of healthier gas prices is "inevitable," and will likely occur in 2010.
"The timing is likely going to be related to some sort of weather event," he said, noting about 28% of Harvest's energy production stems from natural gas. "Whether it is just cold temperatures that increase demand or whether it is the hurricane impacts that affect supply, the big run-ups in natural gas are usually weather related."
Lex Kerkovius, a fund manager and senior analyst at McLean & Partners Wealth Management Ltd., said while natural gas stocks have already rallied, there may be more room to climb.
"Investors need to be looking at gas stocks now," he said. "You cannot wait for the commodity [price] to catch up."

("Argenta") (TSX VENTURE:AZA) is pleased to announce that the Company has finalized its farm-out agreement for a 20% working interest in the Loma El Divisadero property with Unitec Energy, an Argentinean based private company as initially reported in a press release dated July 16, 2008. The terms of the agreement provide for Unitec to pay the Company US$3.5 million, $500,000 of which will be paid in cash and the $3 million balance to be allocated towards the cost to drill two wells. Once this is completed, Unitec will have an option to acquire an additional 30% working interest and the operation of the Loma El Divisadero property by investing an additional US$3.3 million in additional wells and development costs. Unitec will also pay Argenta production bonuses calculated on cumulative gross production target commencing at US$1.1 million when 4.4 million barrels of oil equivalent production has been achieved, and up to a total of US$7.5 million when an additional 4.0 million barrels of oil equivalent production has been achieved, producing a cap at cumulative production of 8.4 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Argenta Oil & Gas Inc. ("Argenta") (AZA) announces that the Company is undertaking a private placement of between $2 and $3 million. Toll Cross Securities Inc. has been engaged as the exclusive agent for the private placement. The private placement will consist of units priced at $0.04 per unit and each unit will comprise one common share and one-half common share purchase warrant. Each full warrant will entitle the holder to purchase an additional common share at a price of $0.10 per share for a period of 18 months from closing of the private placement.
Toll Cross Securities Inc. will receive a commission of 6% in cash and 6% in broker warrants, with each broker warrant exercisable into one common share at $0.10 for a period of 18 months.
The private placement is expected to close early September and securities issued on closing will be subject to a four-month hold period and regulatory approvals.

Argenta Oil & Gas Inc. ("Argenta") (AZA) announces that the Company has appointed Glenn Van Doorne as Chairman of the Board. Mr. Van Doorne who joined the Board on August 5th has over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry in Europe, North Africa, Middle East, Asia and the Americas. He was previously associated with Solana Resources Ltd., a company that merged with Gran Tierra Energy Inc. after increasing its net reserves from 700,000 boe to over 7 million boe and production from 400 boepd to over 5,000 boepd and he was the Founder of IbrizOil Inc., which was acquired by Blue Sky Energy Corp. and Hurricane Hydrocarbons Inc. which changed its name to PetroKazakhstan after growing from 50 bopd to over 70,000 bopd.

- Argenta Oil & Gas Inc. ("Argenta") (TSX VENTURE: AZA.V) announces that the Company has finalized an agreement with Trayectoria Oil and Gas S.A. ("Trayectoria"), a Colombian based private company, for the completion of its commitment to acquire and process 50 square kilometers of 2D seismic data on the La Mona Block in Colombia. This program is needed to finalize the TEA (Technical Evaluation Agreement) work obligations and, if warranted, to enter into an Exploration and Production contract.
The terms of the agreement provide for Trayectoria to pay the seismic contractor GeoEnergy Ltda. (a company controlled by Trayectoria), US$650,000, equivalent to approximately 50% of the cost of the seismic acquisition and processing program. The remaining portion will be paid by Argenta out of its funds deposited in the escrow account, as required under the Contract with the Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos. Once the acquisition and processing is completed, Argenta has agreed to issue Trayectoria 8 million common shares of Argenta, such issuance to be subject to regulatory approval and a four month hold and Trayectoria has agreed to assign to Argenta, in exchange for an additional consideration, to be negotiated, an interest of Argenta's choice in one or more of its hydrocarbon blocks in Colombia.
In addition to its oil and gas interests in Colombia, Brazil, Peru and Ecuador, Trayectoria is part of a group of local service companies that provide seismic acquisition, mobilization, rig and well site services to several E&P companies based in Colombia.

Argenta Oil & Gas Inc. ("Argenta") (TSX VENTURE:AZA) is pleased to announce that it has started a long term production test in well OA x-1, Covunco block, Neuquen basin, Argentina.
Early results indicate a reservoir with gas and light condensate with stabilized rates of 706.6 mscfpd at a pressure of 350 psi on an 8 mm choke and 16 bpd of condensate. The gas is flowing from perforations between 6,220 and 6,306 feet in the Tordillo Formation. Well OA x-1 was initially drilled by YPF in the 1980's and then stimulated by Alberta Energy in the 1990's, but was never put on production.
Testing activity will continue for several days to determine whether the Company should proceed with re-stimulating the reservoir with state of the art technology and to estimate the recoverable reserves through the interpretation of the newly acquired flow and pressure data.

Mr. Morelli has over 20 years of experience in the Colombian oil and gas industry having worked for Ecopetrol, Colombia's National Oil Company and Occidental de Colombia, Inc., Occidental Petroleum's Colombian subsidiary. Mr. Morelli spent four years in public office in Colombia as Governor of the Department (province) of Norte de Santander where his term ended in December 2008.
