Quebec shale gas wells get pulses racing at juniors

Results may set tone for emerging basin

A pair of Calgary juniors are eagerly awaiting the results of the latest shale gas wells in Quebec.

Questerre Energy and Canadian Quantum Energy Corp. both announced that drilling on the Gentilly No. 2 horizontal well has finished and testing will begin later this year.

The well, which is being operated by Talisman Energy, is only the second horizontal well to be drilled into the emerging shale basin, but observers are already comparing region's Utica shale to the Marcellus shale in Pennsylvania, which is shaping up to be one of the largest natural gas fields in North America.

Questerre is also involved in the St. Edouard No. 2, another Talisman horizontal well that is being tested.

According to Questerre spokeswoman Anela Dido, results of the latest wells should start coming in by the end of the month or early March.

"It's quite important to us to determine commerciality," she said. "We've been working toward this for the last year and a half."

Questerre owns 21.5 per cent and 25 per cent of each well, respectively, along with a four per cent gross overriding royalty on any production. In September 2008, the Gentilly No. 1 vertical well flowed 800,000 cubic feet per day from a single fracture, whereas the latest well will have a total of eight separate fracs or stages.

Likewise, the St. Edouard No. 1 vertical well flowed 700,000 cubic feet per day following an initial burst of 2.6 million cubic feet per day from a single frac stage.

Investor interest in both companies is high. With barely any production, Questerre shares are near a 52-week high of $3.98 after trading as low as 78 cents at this time last year.

Canadian Quantum on Wednesday gained a nickel, to close at $1.25. The stock has more than doubled since the start of the year.

Steve Buytels, an associate analyst with Dundee Securities in Calgary, agreed the "buzz" surrounding the Utica is high. He said Questerre needs to see rates of at least 1.5 million to three million cubic feet per day from each well to declare commercial success.

"That's what we're hoping to get," he said. "This is essentially going to give a sense of what rates can be expected out of the play."

Assuming commercial success, it will take time to ramp up activity in the St. Lawrence Lowlands. Most equipment and services have to be brought in from outside the province, and the area lacks basic gas processing infrastructure.

However, Quebec is in proximity to major consuming markets and the Trans Canada main line extends to Montreal. Gas produced in Quebec would enjoy as much as a 50 cent premium to benchmark prices in New York, Buytels added.

Talisman plans to spend about $1 billion this year in neighbouring Pennsylvania, and a good result in Quebec could spark activity throughout the area.

"It'll have a positive impact for sure; it's the next step in the play," Buytels said.

What is the Utica Shale Natural Gas Formation?
The Utica Shale Natural Gas Field is a fairly new natural gas discovery located in the St. Lawrence Lowlands of Quebec, Canada, Montreal, and Northern New York. This is not the only shale field located in New York. The other shale formation would be the Marcellus Shale.

Like many of the other shale plays in the USA, higher natural gas prices in 2008 and new drilling technology increased shale exploration here in the states and Canada which is also home for the Horn River Shale in Northeast British Columbia.

The Utica Shale was once thought to be one of the hottest natural gas shale plays in Canada. Many small companies which are listed list below were drilling test wells in the lower St. Lawrence River. Forest Oil appears to be the first company to do extensive shale testing and drilling at the Utica Shale Formation. Forest Oil recently came out with results from a shale drilling program that started in 2007 which is located in St. Lawrence Lowlands and Gaspe Peninsula. Forest Oil says they drilled two vertical pilot test wells with a depth of 4,800 feet deep. Production rates tested up to 1 million cubic feet per day.

Estimates for Natural Gas in the Utica Shale Deposit Field ranges between 2 trillion cubic feet to up to a whopping 69 trillion cubic feet of Natural Gas. Many companies are still doing tests. If proven true, The Utica Shale play would be in the ranks of several other shale plays in the United States including the Barnett Shale, Marcellus Shale, and Haynesville Shale.

Fracturing the Shale in Quebec seems to be rather easy like the other shale plays. Companies drill a vertical well followed by a horizontal well. They use millions of gallons of water along with sand at high pressures to fracture the shale. They then extract the gas out of the drilling wells which is trapped in the shale pores. This natural gas is then run through various pipelines and sold.

GreenCastle Energy Resources on which trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange, announced on June 12th, 2008 the company is entering the Utica Shale Formation. Greencastle applied for an exploration permit in the St. Lawrence Lowlands of Quebec. The permit covers approximately 6,000 hectares in the Longueil area, east of Montreal, to the southwest along the trend from the recent gas discovery in the Utica Shale by Forest Oil Corporation. It appears that the Utica Shale is beneath GreenCastles land exploration.

2009 Update: We are almost half way through 2009 and after hitting the low $3's on natural gas prices, things seem to have bottomed. The Utica Shale has been put on hold by many companies due to the fact that drilling has fallen off a cliff. Many shale formations such as the Utica Shale have been left untapped and undeveloped. If Natural Gas ever goes above $8 anytime soon, you will see the exploration companies come back to Utica Shale. In the meantime, shale plays like the Barnett Shale and the Haynesville Shale rule!
2010 Update: Natural Gas prices are starting to rise again which could potentially bring the drillers back in droves. If we get $8 natural gas in th Utica Shale in 2010, things will be just fine here!

Furthermore, he states that the "very stable nature of the supply. . .will lead to increasing utilization of gas in North America across a variety of activities, including peak power generation but also ultimately as a motor fuel. In fact, he expects that with "incredible increases" in transmission infrastructures—largely out of Russia and North Africa into Europe and for LNG—natural gas will come to substitute for oil, at least in generation and petrochemicals. "And I think you'll see within five years fairly widespread adoption of natural gas as a motor fuel."

Rick acknowledges that North America has a systemic oversupply of natural gas, but he calls this "a really wonderful thing—good for investors, good for consumers, good for producers, good for everybody."

In summary, he says, "I feel better about the oil and gas sector than I do any other resource sector, with the sole exception of alternative energy."

Utica Shale Play

Utica ShaleHistorically, exploration in the Quebec Lowlands Basin has been primarily devoted to deeper targets in the Trenton Black River carbonates with little thought being given to the gas coming from the shales as they were drilled through on the way to deeper targets. Wells, such as the Shell Sainte-Francoise-Romaine No 1 (testing at 4.5 MMCFD) showed promise, but it has really been the development of new drilling and completion techniques used in the development shale plays such as the Barnett in Texas, have the “shales become the darling” on the industry as low risk commercial projects.

Encana, in a 2007 report, competed an evaluation of the Utica Shale and showed concerns about the ability of the shales to be “fraced”, a necessary procedure to make the shales produce for an extended period. This concern appears to be laid to rest with the March 2008 announcement from Forest Oil that they had not only successfully fraced the shales, but that the two wells tested at commercial rates (“up to one million cubic feet per day”) following the stimulation clean up.

Talisman, with partners Questerre and Canadian Quantum, followed up with a Utica test of their own in the Gentilly #1. The vertical well tested 800 MCFD during a conclusive 18 day test period. Several other wells have been drilling in the area with results ranging from 300 – 800 mcfd (verticals) with three prototype horizontal wells drilled by Forest Oil are testing.

The heart of the Utica Shale trend in Quebec is massive, bounded by the Yamaska Fault to the north-east, which roughly follows the St Lawrence river through this area, and the Logans Line fault system to the south-west. The Fairway extends along the St. Lawrence from roughly Montreal to Quebec City covering an area of over 1.1 million acres or roughly 2400 square miles.

Direct comparisons can be made between established commercial shales producing in North America, and interested parties can read several analyst reports linked to this website. It is the Company's position (and others) that the Utica best compares to the highly successful Barnett Shale of Texas. Initial estimates show the total recoverable potential of the Utica Shale in Quebec could be high as 25 TCF with an estimated 93 BCF of original gas in place (OGIP) per square mile. A recovery factor of 15% would yield 14 BCF recoverable gas per square mile.

Quebec Minister Mulls New Law to Attract Oil, Gas Investment

April 26 (Bloomberg) -- Quebec wants to build its nascent natural-gas industry by crafting a new law to make it easier for producers to operate in the province, Natural Resources Minister Nathalie Normandeau said.

Normandeau plans to introduce legislation in the fourth quarter to regulate oil and gas production, she said in an interview in Montreal. While Quebec doesn’t yet produce oil or gas commercially, companies such as Talisman Energy Inc., Forest Oil Corp. and Questerre Energy Corp. have begun exploring in the province.

Exploration for hydrocarbons is so new in Canada’s second- most populous province that there is no law specifically designed to govern oil and gas operations. Drillers are regulated by a hodgepodge of six laws, including the Mining Act and Forest Law.

“We want to create a fiscal and legal framework that can make a company decide to invest in Quebec rather than Pennsylvania,” said Normandeau, who also is the province’s deputy premier.

Edward Kallio, director of gas consulting at Ziff Energy Group in Calgary, said Quebec may hold about one-tenth as much gas as the Haynesville Shale in Louisiana and Texas, which the U.S. Department of Energy estimated last year holds about 251 trillion cubic feet of gas in shale-rock formations.

“It’s relatively small, but it’s a nice resource to have on your doorstep,” said Kallio, who doesn’t expect production in the province to start before 2015. Quebec would have the potential to supply as much as 500 million cubic feet of gas a day from the Utica Shale by 2020, he said.

Test Wells

Normandeau declined to give details of the regulatory changes she is considering.

“We will not do this at the expense of the environment,” she said. Provincial legislators would have to vote to approve the new law.

Talisman, which is exploring a formation known as the Utica Shale in the St. Lawrence River valley, has plans to test four horizontal pilot wells in Quebec this year. Paul Smith, the company’s executive vice president for North American operations, told analysts on a Feb. 10 conference call that the company would know more about Quebec’s potential by mid-year.

North American gas producers are boosting output from shale formations, where rocks hundreds of feet below the ground are fractured to free trapped natural gas, which is then pumped to the surface. Techniques created in the 1990s to tap gas in shale are allowing producers to extract liquid hydrocarbons from formations that were previously too dense to exploit profitably.

Royalties, Taxes

Developing natural-gas production may help create as many as 10,000 jobs in the province of 7.8 million people over several years, Normandeau said. Producing gas locally would increase government revenue from royalties and taxes while allowing Quebec to reduce its dependence on shipments from western Canada, said Ziff Energy’s Kallio.

Natural gas accounts for 13 percent of Quebec’s energy consumption, compared with 38 percent for oil, according to the government.

State-owned Hydro-Quebec supplies almost all of the province’s electricity, with about 95 percent coming from hydroelectric stations. Gas is used mainly for heating and industrial purposes.

“If we are able to start producing gas, I can see a day when it will play a bigger role than oil in meeting our energy needs,” Normandeau said.

Environmental Concerns

Association québécoise de lutte contre la pollution atmosphérique, a provincial environmental group, wants Quebec to halt shale gas exploration, not expand it, until the impact on the environment can be assessed.

André Bélisle, the group’s president, said his association’s concerns include the possibility of hydrogen sulfide, a toxic chemical compound contained in natural gas, being released into the air.

“The government is telling us to trust them, but we have real reasons to be worried by shale gas,” Bélisle said in a telephone interview.

Under Quebec’s mining act, oil and gas resources are owned by the province. Gas producers would pay royalties of 10 percent to 12.5 percent, depending on the size of the production.

Companies that want to pull water from the ground or drill on Quebec farmland must get permission from government bodies such as the provincial Environment Ministry and the Commission for the Protection of Agricultural Lands.

‘Enormous’ Potential

Jean-Yves Lavoie, chief executive officer of Quebec City- based energy explorer Junex Inc., said he and his industry counterparts welcome the government’s efforts to tailor a law for oil and gas production.

“Quebec’s natural-gas potential is enormous, and having a clear regulatory environment can only help,” Lavoie said in a telephone interview.

Junex, citing an assessment by Texas-based consultants Netherland, Sewell & Associates Inc., said April 19 that it may be able to produce 3.7 trillion cubic feet of gas from its Quebec properties. The total resource may be as high as 48.3 trillion cubic feet, the company said.

“There is plenty of gas in the ground in Quebec,” Lavoie said. “The question now is whether we are going to be able to produce it in a way that makes economic sense. It’s all about the production costs.”

wenn ich mir den chart oben so ansehe, wären auch 0,50 CAD kein Problem wenn die Kuh mal ins laufen kommt! Wenn Sie was finden, gehts sowieso rund, das Thema ist in Kanada und USA sehr heiss.
Bei uns aber noch nicht so bekannt denke ich.

mal sehen, denke das Unternehmen kenn noch kein Mensch. Wenn bekannt wird, dass die neben den großen Playern die Projekte gekauft haben sollte es losgehen!

Haben ja diese MGI als Partner, somit sollte auch immer für frisches Geld gesorgt sein!

das stimmt, Transamerica hat sehr wenige Aktien ausstehend undfrüher oder später werden die Investoren der Nachbarunternehmen Tae entdecken und sehen, dass es das unterbewerteste Unternehmen im Shale ist.

ich bin durch Herrn Schomber auf die TAE aufmerksam geworden.
Herr Schomber liefert recht interessante Trading Ideen und ist nicht so link wie mach andere.
Ist eine sehr kleine Marktbewertung meiner Ansicht nach.

dünner Handel...alles wartet auf News. Wenn ich mir Chart so ansehe ist um 0,12 CAD ein guter Kaufzeitpunkt. Ansonsten einfach mal warten, was soll passieren? Schiefergasprojekte in einer hervorragenden Region wo jedes Unternehmen Erfolg bis jetzt hatte und Marktkapitalisierungen von paar hunder Mios haben.

Macht mir keine Sorgen. Auch die HP ist noch nicht mal upgedated, also kennt das Teil noch fast niemand.

Transamerica hat sich ja heute wieder schön erholt, denke in ein paar tagen sind wir wieder bei 15 cent.

Wir müssen mal Pétrolia (PEA-TSXV) und Corridor Resources Inc. (CDH-TSX) genau beobachten, das sind die direkten Nachbarn von Transamerica, die fangen gerade an zu bohren!

Ach man, was ist hier denn los, mal wieder nix.
Kein Volumen in Kanada, kein Volumen hier.....
Und dann dieser Spread Bid bei 0,055 Ask bei 0,099 -> Umrechnung liegt bei ca. 0,092. So ist man hier erstmal geparkt, man kommt nicht zu vernünfitgen Kursen raus.......
Das muss mal was kommen, damit hier wieder Schwung rein kommt, oder was meint ihr.
Was können wir machen???

sehe ich auch so, auf jeden fall es es gut, dass kein abgabedruck herrscht in diesem miesen markt, sollte also schnell nach oben gehen, sobald Dow Jones und Co. wieder ok sind.

Hallo zusammen!

Ob das jetzt am miesen Marktumfeld glaube ich persönlich nicht. Das interesse für diese Aktie tendiert aktuell nahezu null. Mit Minivolumen wurde die Aktie von 0,15 $ auf nun 0,075$ gedrückt. Und das Getaxe hier in Germany ist ja auch nicht mehr normal.
Fragen mich wirklich was das alles bedeutet, ist hier jetzt wirklich ein Riesenpotential oder doch nur wieder ein Flop. Wir brauchen weitere News und zwar positive, sonst geht es mit minivolumen weiter runter, denke ich.

Was meint ihr, wie es weitergeht? Hat jemand vielleicht neue Info´s? Wir brauchen News......

Guten Morgen zusammen!

Ich habe gestern eine Mail an das management bzw. die Kontaktadresse auf der Homepage geschrieben. Heute habe ich propmt eine Antwort erhalten. Dieses schnelle Feedback ist doch schon mal positiv. Die Antwort auf meine Fragen fand ich jetzt auch gut und seriös, was mich hoffen läßt, dass wir es mit eine gute, seriöse zukunftsträchtigen Aktie / Unternehmen zu tun hat.
Es gibt natürlich Risiken, allerdings überwiegen die Chancen!
Ich bleibe long......

Noch jemand da? Hbae zwischendurch mal gedacht jetzt geht es besser, weil mehrere Tage hintereinander Volumen reingekommen ist. Na gut nicht viel am zumindest etwas und dann wieder mit 8 Stück runter auf 0,075$, ätzend.

Klar, Geduld sollte und muss man haben, aber was hier abgeht. Kein Volumen, keine Infos.
Hier in Deutschland wildes hin und her Getaxe. Heute bid 0,02 zu 0,11. Oh man, keine Ahnung was hier abgeht oder kommt.
Hatte am Anfang echt ein gutes Gefühl, aber jetzt langsam verläßt mich dieses gute Gefühl.
Irgendetwas war ja gestern auch in Kanada los. War lange nicht mehr so ein Volumen.
Erst runter auf 0,05 und dann wieder hoch auf 0,07.
Wie geht es hier weiter? Hat jemand Infos? Ist überhaupt noch jemand dabei?

Naja, gut Ding will Weile haben....................

Gas fliest ja anscheinend in ihrem Quebec Project noch nicht.

Ich bin auch dabei! Schon viel zu lange!
Aber ich denke dass es schon zu gegebener Zeit wieder News geben wird. Die Website von TAE wird ohnehin sehr schlecht gepflegt. Die legen darauf einfach keinen Wert.
Ob sich TAE mit dem Projekt übernommen hat ??? Ich denke mal nicht. Sind die Rechte gesichert, ist das ganze technisch meineserachtens so aufwendig nicht.

Fakt ist, nun werd ich auch nicht mehr verkaufen. Beim nächsten Hüpfer würd ich es bereuen. Und wenn nicht diesen Monat, dann den überübernächsten!

Ich vergess das ganze jetzt erstmal, bis ich es mit Gewinn wieder ausgrabe. Kann nach meiner Erfahrung nur bestätigen, dass der, der bereit ist Geld in Aktien länger als 10 Minuten zu investieren auch bereit sein muss es 10 Jahre zu investieren! Und so lange wird es bei TAE nicht dauern.

Ich habe nicht am Tief verkauft, dennoch wird es langsam zermürbend..............
Seit 4,5 Monaten nicht mehr vom Unternehmen. Der Kurs stürzt mit Minivolumen ab, in Deutschland ist quasi gar kein Handel mehr. Und die Bid / Ask Range ist ja ein Witz......
Alles ganz schön komisch und seltsam. Was geht hier denn jetzt, wie geht es weiter????

Oder ist das alles wieder nur ein Fake und wir sind unser Geld los????

Exploration on the Territory of the Innu Nation of Pessamit



November 22, 2010 – TransAmerican Energy Inc. (TSX-V: TAE) (FSE: YQJ) is pleased to

announce the appointment of Louis Lapointe as President. Mr. Lapointe, a fully bilingual native of

Quebec, has worked with several merchant banks over the past few years and brings a much

needed presence in Quebec for TransAmerican. Mr. Lapointe's extensive knowledge of corporate

capital structures will prove valuable as the Company moves forward. Ron Hughes, the former

President, will stay on as Chief Executive Officer and a director.


The Company and its minority partner Dumasbancorp ULC have entered into an agreement with

the Autonomous Innu Government of Pessamit (“Pessamit”), for the purpose of conducting

hydrocarbon (oil and gas) exploration in certain identified areas located in the estuary of the

St. Lawrence River in the Côte-Nord region, that may contain significant quantities of oil and gas.

The Consortium, led by the Company, has taken steps to obtain Pessamit’s exclusive consent to

conduct exploration work in Pessamit’s territory (the “Pessamit Territory”), and on other lands and

territories located in the Nistassinan of the Innus of Pessamit. An initial work program, consisting

of geophysics surface work at a cost of approximately $100,000, is anticipated to be conducted

during the months of January through March 2011. The initial exploration work will be followed by

additional work during the spring of 2011, provided that the initial exploration work is conclusive.

Pessamit has agreed that the Company may undertake an oil and gas exploration program in the

Pessamit Territory, based on the Company’s commitment to offer Pessamit an opportunity to be

involved in a possible exploitation of an oil and gas field that may be uncovered in the Pessamit

Territory.


The Company anticipates expending up to $1,000,000 to conduct the exploration program in the

Pessamit Territory. TransAmerican and Dumasbancorp ULC have agreed that Pessamit will hold a

carried interest in any oil and gas field that may be uncovered on their lands, and that if such a field

is uncovered, the nature and terms of Pessamit’s involvement in a possible exploitation of such oil

and gas field shall be defined and agreed by the parties in a formal final agreement to be prepared,

which will be subject to receipt by TransAmerican of any required regulatory approval.

Hallo zusammen!

Habe mich lange nicht mehr gemeldet. Bin gefrustet von der Stille in den letzten Monaten. Habe aber gestern noch geschaut im Hinblick auf Insider - Transaktionen. Und da gabs in den letzten 3 Monaten 2 Käufe, einmal 21.000 Stck. und einmal 50.000 Stck. Die können noch nicht so lange her sein, weil ich vor 2 Wochen auf der gleichen Seite geschaut hatte und da stand noch nichts von diesen beiden Käufen. Also muss da letzte Woche was gewesen sein.
Vielleicht könnte das ja ein positives Zeichen sein. In dieser Stille klammert man sich ja an jeden Strohhalm....

Corridor and Petrolia Announce Updated Anticosti Analysis


Results indicate highly prospective oil & gas production potential


RIMOUSKI, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 1, 2011) -Corridor Resources (TSX:CDH) and Petrolia (TSX VENTURE:PEA) reported today that they have acquired new analytical data from a cored interval of the Macasty shale in the Petrolia Corridor Chaloupe #1 well that was drilled during the summer of 2010 on Anticosti Island, Quebec. This data updates the analytical results previously disclosed by Corridor and Petrolia in a joint press release dated February 9, 2011. The analyses were conducted within the lab facilities of a major, independent E&P company, with extensive shale experience. These results indicate highly prospective oil and gas production potential for the Macasty shale.

The highlight of the analyses is the permeability, which ranges between 197 and 739 nanoDarcies and averages 479 nD. In addition, the analyses indicate that the total hydrocarbon saturation of the rock is approaching 70%, which is positive for shale productivity. The Total Organic Carbon (TOC) results average 4.34% and, finally, the new data also shows a higher Tmax value (a proxy for maturity). These exceptional shale permeabilities, combined with the relatively high hydrocarbon saturation and TOC results, are positive factors toward the goal of attaining economic production from the Macasty shale formation.

Corridor and Petrolia, control more than 1.5 million acres of prospective Macasty lands on Anticosti Island. The Macasty shale is the lateral equivalent of the Utica shale that is found in Ohio. This data would suggest that the rock properties of the Macasty shale are similar to that of the Utica shale in Ohio where a number of companies are active.

Ich bin noch 20Kilo drin, habe ich allerdings schon abgeschrieben. Ich habe die Hoffnung eigentlich schon aufgegeben....

Über ein Jahr keine Info, weiß nicht, ob das eine seriöse Informationspolitik ist.

Naja, müssen wir wohl weiter abwarten, für die taxe verkaufe ich meine Teile nicht, da halte ich sie doch lieber bis zum bitteren Ende.....

Bin auch sehr enttäuscht. Aber entweder geht da im Kurs noch mächtig was ab oder wir könnnen das Invest auf der Verlustseite abschreiben

auf jeden fall, denke jetzt gibt es einen run auf anticosti. Das letzte Mal als TAE auf Anticosti Aktivitäten starten wollte, ging es hoch bis auf 22 cent und dann kam der Explorationsstop. Jetzt ist die Regierung PArtner auf Anticosti und die Show kann beginnen.
