BRISBANE, Calif. and PORTON DOWN, England, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- VaxGen, Inc. (Nasdaq: VXGN - News) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA) for England and Wales announced today that they have signed a binding letter of intent (LOI) to negotiate terms under which VaxGen would license U.K. rights to, and transfer technology for, its recombinant anthrax vaccine candidate (rPA102) to HPA. The agreement would give HPA the right to manufacture the vaccine in the United Kingdom as well as to market the vaccine in the United Kingdom and possibly other territories.

The LOI envisages that VaxGen will continue to manufacture rPA102 in the U.S. and HPA would establish manufacture in the U.K., with each party acting as a back-up supplier of anthrax vaccine to the other, thus increasing the supply security of this strategically important product. Earlier this year, VaxGen completed construction and commissioning of its U.S. manufacturing facility with a capacity of approximately 100 million doses per year.
Under the terms of the LOI, HPA would be responsible for transfer of the manufacturing process and licensure of the product in the U.K. VaxGen would receive a royalty on sales of rPA102, if it is approved by the U.K. regulatory authority. This royalty may be supplemented by reciprocal rights to product technologies under development by HPA.
The 12-month LOI is subject to extensions by mutual agreement of VaxGen and HPA. A definitive agreement will be subject to approval from the U.S. and U.K. governments and conclusion of a license agreement between VaxGen and the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) regarding underlying intellectual property. VaxGen is developing the rPA102 anthrax vaccine candidate under contract from the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
VaxGen selected HPA as its partner in this effort based on HPA`s extensive experience with anthrax and a successful working relationship developed over the course of VaxGen`s work under its NIAID contract to develop rPA102. HPA is the manufacturer of the current U.K. anthrax vaccine.

(NasdaqNM:VXGN - News) was selected as the only U.S.-based company to develop, manufacture, and clinically evaluate an anthrax vaccine by the National Institutes of Health, Gordon said. Since they acquired the contract in Sept. 2002, the company has ``completed all pre-clinical studies, and received permission from the FDA to begin human clinical studies,`` he added. ``We will look at 100 individuals (measuring) the safety of the product, immune responses, and compare these to the levels of antibodies that have shown to be protective in the well accepted (model),`` he said. The company is ``prepared not only to advance licensure, but also to initiate large scale manufacturers this Fall,`` if the Government accepts their initial responses in August.
Under their current contract, VaxGen is required to provide the Government with a plan of how ``(they would) initiate the manufacturing of a 25-million dose stockpile starting this October,`` Gordon said. With a manufacturing facility in Inchon, South Korea, and another in Southern San Francisco with a capacity of producing 50-million doses annually, which Gordon said ``can be expanded to whatever is needed,`` he predicted that they will be able to meet the government`s standards.
With Congress allocating $5.6 billion for their bio-shield defenses, and with more than 1/2 of that being spent for anthrax and small pox vaccines, Gordon said his company`s next goal is to ``bid on and win the supply contract,`` which included $250 million for the purchase of the vaccine stockpile. ``They identified about $700 million over a 3-year period for procurement,`` he said. ``It`s our goal to satisfy that in its entirety.``
VaxGen is also working closely with the Chemo-Sero-Therapeutic Research Institute (Kaketsuken) of Japan, to bring a small pox vaccine that has already been licensed in Japan, to the United States, Gordon said. ``Our target is to file an IND for the small pox vaccine in the U.S. by the end of the year,`` he said, adding that the vaccine has already been tested on 50,000 children in Japan, and has proven to be safe.
The company also has two preventive AIDS vaccine candidates, AIDSVAX B/B and AIDSVAX B/E, in Phase III clinical trials. Each vaccine candidate is designed to induce the human immune system to produce antibodies that prevent HIV infection.

Aber wenn der erste Ami seine Aktien auf den Markt schmeißt, kann es jederzeit abwärts rauschen! Aber ein Kurs von 12,30 USD im Moment ist der Oberwahnsinn! Und das bei so einem riesigen Umsatz!

hab heute morgen leider zu 8,80 verkauft. für den teil wohl leider etwas früh. aber die 500 stück sind nur ein viertel meines bestandes von vaxgen.

Nee, ich denke, da wird irgendwann jemand anfangen zu verkaufen. Ich krieg echt die Krise, wenn ich dem immernoch steigenden Kurs zusehe.
Andererseits hätte ich so oder so vor dem deutschen Börsenschluß verkauft, denn wenn der Kurs jetzt in den USA abschmiert, sind morgen die Aktien nichts mehr wert. Da hilft auch Stop Loss nichts. Mal schauen.

sorry, waren nicht über 8 mrd. sondern "nur" 2,86 mrd. . net present value (gewinn?) 813 mio., wären ja ca. 80 mio./jahr. bei 20,48 mio. aktien wären das 4$/aktie. kgv von forschen 40 würde einen kurs von 160 rechtfertigen, selbst kgv 10 wären 40$.
also noch reichlich platz nach oben. offizielle meldung soll am donnerstag kommen - vielleicht die möglichkeit, im sell on goog news nachzulegen. vielleicht auch nicht.

Ich hab gestern für 9,59EUR verkauft und drehe durch, wenn ich dem Kurs zuschaue! Ich wußte ja nichts von diesem Regierungs-Deal, dann hätte ich nur Stop Loss gesetzt und nicht verkauft. So ein Mist.
Aber irgendwann wird der Kurs wieder konsolidieren. Der muß ja mal runterkommen! Das ist echt krass, was in den letzten Tagen und heute wieder passiert...

Ich beobachte Vaxgen schon seit über 6 Monaten und bin natürlich sehr erstaunt über die neue Entwicklung; zumal ich im März d. J. für 6,5 Euro wieder eingestiegen war und jetzt wieder dick im plus bin

Bis dahin fließt noch viel Wasser den Rhein runter, und der Kurs wird sich auch noch mal stabilisieren. Wahrscheinlich im zweistelligen Bereich, aber auch Optimisten wollen irgendwann Gewinne realisieren. Dann kann unsereins auch wieder einsteigen.

Nee, ich bin (noch) nicht drin. Erstens kein Geld und zweitens viel Geld in San Telmo investiert. Da sieht es auch sehr gut aus. Gestern auch sehr hoher Umsatz und 10,2% im Plus. Vaxgen ist für mich irgendwie zu heiß bei diesem Kurs. Hab auch nicht so viel Kohle, um so ein Risiko eingehen zu können, daß der Kurs wieder abschmiert. Und: ich glaube einfach im Moment nicht dran, daß der Kurs noch sehr viel steigt, da alle News bekannt sind. Wenn auf einmal so viel Gewinn erwartet wird und alle die Aktie sofort haben wollen, wäre da keine Korrektur gewesen und das Plus hätte gestern größer ausgesehen. Warum sollte denn jemand verkaufen?

The 3-year contract is intended to fund many of the steps required for commercial licensure of the vaccine candidate and could pave the way for a significantly larger contract for a national stockpile of anthrax vaccine.

The new NIAID contract is intended to fund animal studies, Phase II clinical trials, the scale up and validation of the vaccine manufacturing process and production of 3 million doses of finished product. The vaccine`s efficacy will be determined through animal testing, based on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration`s two-animal rule model, instead of large Phase III studies in humans.
VaxGen plans to manufacture the protein antigen used in rPA102 in its manufacturing facility in South San Francisco, Calif. VaxGen believes the facility, as currently equipped, has the capacity to produce approximately 100 million doses of rPA102 bulk vaccine per year. Filling, packaging and labeling of the vaccine will be done at contract manufacturing sites.
The contract has been funded in whole with Federal funds from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health, under Contract No. N01-AI-30053.
Project BioShield
Whereas the most recent NIAID contract is meant to fund continued development of a recombinant Protective Antigen (rPA) anthrax vaccine, pending legislation known as Project BioShield is meant to procure a large stockpile of rPA anthrax vaccine, as well as other biodefense countermeasures. Project BioShield is pending approval by the U.S. Senate after having been approved by the U.S. House of Representatives in July by a vote of 421-to-2.
If Project BioShield is signed into law this year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services could begin purchasing an rPA anthrax vaccine as early as next year, while the product is still considered an Investigational New Drug and before it is approved for commercial use. Such a purchase would be used to build a stockpile of the vaccine for emergency use, with additional purchases made when and if the FDA licenses the vaccine for commercial use.
In its current form, Project BioShield earmarks $1.4 billion for the purchase, maintenance and replenishment of 60 million doses of an rPA anthrax vaccine between 2004 and 2013. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the federal government intends to spend $700 million to purchase the 60-million dose stockpile of rPA anthrax vaccine and another $700 million to maintain and replenish the stockpile.
"If Project BioShield is signed into law, VaxGen intends to bid aggressively for an rPA anthrax vaccine contract," Gordon said. "As we`ve developed the rPA vaccine, we`ve enhanced VaxGen`s capabilities and our capacity to manufacture and supply the large quantities of anthrax vaccine that are being considered under the pending BioShield legislation."

VaxGen began accelerated development of rPA102 in the fall of 2002 under a previous contract from the NIAID. That contract funded the manufacture of 2,000 doses, animal challenge studies and a Phase I clinical trial. The company`s Phase I trial was launched at four leading U.S. medical centers in June and is now fully enrolled with all participants having received their immunizations. The trial is scheduled to be completed early next year.
Battelle Memorial Institute and the Health Protection Agency of England and Wales were subcontractors on the original development contract and are expected to fulfill similar roles on the latest contract.

Avant Immunotherapeuticals(874446/AVN)an.Die haben geile Produkte und die teilweise schon in fortgeschrittenen Phasen u.a. in Phase III.Und überhaupt die Pipeline ist ein Traum.Da ist Phantasie und Potenzial ohne Ende vorhanden.Die Firma ist noch weniger bekannt als Vaxgen.

NEW YORK, Aug 6 (Reuters) - Biotechnology company VaxGen Inc. (NasdaqNM:VXGNE - News) said on Friday its shares will be delisted from Nasdaq because it failed to file its financial statements for first two quarters of this year in a timely manner.

The company`s shares fell more than 30 percent in afternoon trading on Nasdaq. They will be delisted as of Aug. 9.
The Brisbane, California-based company, said the delay is due to its implementation of what it believes is a "more appropriate revenue recognition policy" and said it expects to file the statements before the end of October.
The company said a Nasdaq panel noted in a letter to VaxGen that the revenue recognition issue "does not appear to have resulted from any impropriety or questionable internal controls."
VaxGen made the first-ever HIV vaccine for testing in people, but found that it failed in its first large trial to protect against the virus.
The company said it will be eligible for relisting after it has implemented certain measures, including its new revenue recognition policy and the completion of an associated restatement of its 2003 and 2002 financial results.
Last month the company said that under its new plan it will accelerate recognition of certain revenue from its contracts with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Was lange währt, wird gut. Gestern wurde mit dem ersten Regierungsauftrag in 3stelliger Millionenhöhe erst der Grundstein gelegt.
